For our newest piece, the wonderful NEMagain2006 aka Jenn has graced us with her words. ****************************************************************** By: NEMagain2006 In preparation for writing my reflection, I started thinking about what factors determine compatibility. A person can look really good on paper, but if that spark of chemistry isn’t there between the couple, then they’ll never make it. On the other hand, that spark doesn’t always burn with the same energy. Sometimes it’s a small flickering flame that doesn’t cast enough light to recognize the furniture in the room. Other times it’s so bright that it could light up a whole house. Emily and Nikolas are compatible, their light just dimmed. They haven’t stopped being right for each other, their light is just so small that they can’t see their hands in front of their faces. One thing that I do in my own life when I’m missing someone I love is think about the really great moments we spent together. Of course, I look through rose-colored glasses at those memories – remembering them much better than they were. The problem is, we as fans can’t do that with Nikolas and Emily. We can go back and watch old clips and know that their love story was every bit as magical as we remember it. But the good times don’t last forever – on soaps or in life – and the task is to figure out how to get through the trials without getting over each other. NikE fans are so lucky right now because we are getting constant reminders that the light is still burning. Nikolas and Emily have been through so much ickiness over the last couple of years (the kind of stuff that would have caused some former couples to live continents apart), yet when they are in a room together, they gravitate toward each other. Their eyes light up, talk comes easily, and they genuinely care for each other. They have a love that has been weathered, but when they get back together, I have a hard time fathoming how the writers will be able to break them up again. They will really be that strong! With Sonny, Emily’s only known the good times. She is just starting to weather the first major storm of that relationship, and I expect the relationship itself will be the casualty. She and Nikolas have been through all that and more, and they are still connected. There’s a reason why ever potential romantic interest in Nikolas and Emily’s lives is threatened by their past together. Our job as fans is to continue supporting our couple, cheer on their small victories, and anticipate their reunion. It’s coming. |
