January 16, 2008 Screencaps

Patrick: I've gone over the notes a dozen times, looked at the x-rays. We've seen what we can of the tumor. We don't know what part it's pressing on in his brain, and we don't know if Nikolas has been compromised because of the drugs Jerry gave him.

Robin: Well, maybe it's a combination of both.

Patrick: And maybe the answer's in the blood.

Robin: Where are you going with this?

Patrick: We need to find out what hormones are being released into Nikolas' system when he's in his angry episodes, and the only way we can do that is take a blood Sample when he's in full fury.

Robin: Nikolas is a tinderbox.

Patrick: Yeah, and he's getting worse, Robin, which means --

Robin: No.

Patrick: That it shouldn't be hard -- what do mean, no? You're not going to help me?

Robin: No, we're not doing this at all.

Nikolas: What makes you say I'm talking to Emily?

Nadine: I'm sorry. Things tend to sound better in my head than they do when they're coming out of my mouth. It's not what I heard you say. I didn't even really get the words. It's more your tone, and the look on your face. It's just peaceful.

Nikolas: I see.

Nadine: I watched you at the ball. I had never seen a real prince before, and you were exactly the way I thought one would be. And the way you were with Emily, it was just different than with anybody else. You were like that when I walked in and heard you talking the other day and at the nurse's station before. You don't have to say yes or no. I just wondered. It's hard to say goodbye. And maybe you're not ready. So if you want to keep on talking to her, I think you should do it. It brings out the best in you.

Nikolas: So what brings out the worst?

Nadine: That is what we're here to find out. When you're talking to Emily, even though she's not here, it's just a natural phase of grief. I'll go see what's keeping Dr. Drake.

Door closes.

Emily: Is that all that I am? A natural phase?

Nikolas: Well, if you are, I hope I never get past it.

Patrick: What, you don't think it's going to work?

Robin: It's unethical and it's cruel.

Patrick: But necessary. Robin, if a patient comes in with pain in their arm, you move it and ask him when and where it hurts to determine cause and treatment.

Robin: This is completely different. You're saying that you want to provoke an emotionally unstable person.

Patrick: Robin, Nikolas has some sort of medical demon in him. Now, we need to flush it out and shine a light on it.

Robin: Okay, let's just suppose I go along with your little experiment. We agitate Nikolas to the point to where he has one of his rage episodes.

Patrick: Okay.

Robin: He's uncontrollable and he's violent. How do you keep him from being a danger to himself or to other patients in this hospital?

Patrick: We keep a controlled environment.

Robin: If you can control it. First of all, you don't even know what to say to provoke one of these episodes. And then once it's happening to stop it, if that's even possible.

Patrick: Robin, you deal with experimental protocol all the time. I don't see what the difference is here.

Robin: My protocol is medical, not emotional.

Patrick: Oh, I get it. So we're back to Dr. Drake, the unfeeling physician?

Robin: Listen, Nikolas is one of my closest and dearest friends. Excuse me if I can't separate the patient from the person like you can.

Patrick: When I see one of your oldest, dearest friends, I see a man in turmoil, and I'm going to do everything in my insensitive, unfeeling power to save his life. Robin, hey –

Nikolas: Well, I know you're not a ghost, because -- because I don't believe in them.

Emily: Well, what do you believe in?

Nikolas: I believe in love. I believe in -- I believe in our love and how strong it was --

Emily: When I was alive.

Nikolas: Yeah. Well, maybe that's it. Maybe now that you're here, that just proves how strong it really was.

Emily: Maybe it was too strong.

Nikolas: What do you mean?

Emily: I love you. I love that I'm with you. But I don't know -- maybe it's not right. Maybe it's not natural. Maybe I should go away.

Patrick: Just sit down.

Robin: I don't know what happened. I just got dizzy all of the sudden.

Patrick: Yeah, because of the last time Nikolas had one of his rages, he tossed you and you hit your head on the table and you didn't get checked out.

Robin: Look, I'm fine. Nikolas is the one that isn’t. Listen, I will think about going along with this if Nikolas gives us the okay.

Patrick: No. We can't do it that way.

Robin: Why?

Patrick: Because we don't know what's going on in Nikolas' head. He could have some sort of protective mechanism put up, and it's not going to work. We have to surprise him.

Nikolas: Please tell me you don't mean that.

Emily: Nikolas, I don't think I'm good for you.

Nikolas: You're the only one that's keeping me sane right now.

Emily: I'm the only thing that's keeping you from moving on. I mean, how long can this last?

Nikolas: As long as we want it to.

Emily: I don't think I have any control over that.

Nikolas: No, listen -- listen to me. You can't go until I let you go. I love you.

Emily: I'm not real.

Nikolas: But you're the next best thing to al. And more than that, you're all I have right now.

Nikolas: I want us to go home. I have a surprise for you.

Emily: Is it possible to surprise me?

Nikolas: Well, you'll just have to wait and find out. You know what today is, don't you?

Patrick returns to Nikolas.

Nikolas: Can I go now?

Patrick: Must be a tough day for you today, huh? I mean, being Emily's birthday and all.

Nikolas: What kind of a stupid thing is that to say? Of course it's hard. I had big plans for Emily's birthday.

Patrick: Yeah, I'm sure you did. So what were you going to do? Buy a small town and name it after her? I mean, that's what rich guys like you do, isn't it?

Nikolas: Can I go now?

Patrick: No, actually. I'm having you admitted.

Nikolas: Why?

Patrick: Because I'm your doctor, and I said so. Look, I know you're royalty or whatever, Nikolas, but lately you've been running around like a loose cannon -- shoving, stabbing innocent people and getting away with it because you hold some sort of untouchable place in society among us commoners. I mean, you probably think Emily should have felt chosen that you bothered to look at her twice. Tell me, Nikolas, how many -- how many women did you have on the side, really?

Nikolas: You bastard!

Patrick: Now! Put him down now!

Nikolas: Oh, you think that's funny? Huh? Get off! I swear to God, I'll kill --

Nadine: They're just trying to help!

Nikolas: No!

Patrick: Don't calm him down.

Nikolas pants.

Nikolas: Get off me.

Patrick: You okay?

Nikolas: What -- what happened? What happened? What did I do?

Nadine: It's okay.

Robin: Nikolas, I'm so sorry.

Patrick: Okay, let him go. Robin, put a rush on that, okay? You got angry again.

Nikolas: Yeah? I still am.

Patrick groans.

Robin: What happened?

Patrick: Well, you were right. My controlled experiment got a little out of control. Come on, we have to find him.

Jason: Joe -- worst thing for your wife and baby is stress. And you being out here doing this -- this is not -- this is not good for them. Dr. Ford?

Russell: Yeah?

Jason: Um -- if -- if we can still come to some kind of understanding, we get Joe unhooked somehow and you can -- you can be with your wife, okay? And no -- no actions get taken until his wife gets released -- can we -- can we still do that?

Russell: We can do that.

Jason: Let's -- let's end this, Joe, okay? Let's just end -- end this craziness. I mean, you belong with your wife and your baby.

Nikolas: Where is she?

Joe: Whoa -- who is this guy? How did he get in here?

Jason: No, no, Nikolas, stay -- just please, stay back, okay?

Joe: You stay back or I'll blow us up!

Nikolas: You go ahead. I've got nothing to lose.

Robin: Anything?

Patrick: We have to call security?

Robin: Nikolas could get hurt.

Patrick: And so could a lot of other people.

Robin sighs.

Robin: Whose fault is that? Oh --

Patrick: Robin -- hey.

Robin: Oh.

Joe: Somebody keep this psycho away from me.

Nikolas: What, I'm a psycho? You have a bomb strapped to you.

Sam: Nikolas --

Joe: No. Nobody moves.

Jason: Nikolas, just take -- just take it easy.

Nikolas: No, you don't tell me what to do, either.

Sam: Come on, really, just -- just take it easy. You got to stop. You're having another one of your episodes. It's going to pass.

Nikolas: No. No, it won't pass.

Jason: Nik-- Nikolas --

Nikolas: Jason, I don't want to talk to you right now. Today's her birthday. Did you know that? Did you know it was her birthday?

Sam: She's gone.

Nikolas: No. No, she's not gone. You're keeping her away from me. Why are you doing that? Why? Let me ask you. Let me ask you. Why would you keep someone away from someone that they love? Why -- why would you do that?

Joe: You just stay back, you freak.

Nikolas: You want to blow us up? You want to blow us all up? Go ahead!
