Lucky: Good morning.
Sam: It is now.
They make out.
Nikolas: Clearly I should've called before stopping by.
Lucky: I don't need you dropping by to police my behavior. My marriage is over, and Sam and I are adults, so if we want to spend time together, that's our business.
Sam: You know, Lucky, I was at Nikolas' yesterday and we got interrupted. This probably has nothing to do with you.
Nikolas: No, it actually doesn't. I -- I just came by to apologize to Sam. I had no idea that you'd be here.
Lucky: Apologize for what?
Sam: Well, you see, Nikolas blew up at me yesterday at the hospital. I sort of, kind of started a fight with Elizabeth.
Nikolas: I apologize. My behavior was inexcusable.
Sam: So was mine. And, really, you don't have anything to worry about. In fact, I am actually looking forward to going to the ball.
Nikolas: Oh. Will you be attending as a couple or --
Lucky: Okay -- just back off. Mind your own business.
Elizabeth: Hey. Hope you don't mind -- Alfred said I could wait in here for you.
Nikolas: No, no, not at all. What brings you by?
Elizabeth: This. I just wanted to thank you in person for inviting me to the ball, and, yes, I would love to come.
Nikolas: You're welcome. It's going to be a pretty special night, I hope. It wouldn't be the same if you didn't come.
Elizabeth: You know I couldn't be happier that you and Emily have found your way back to each other. But if either of you are hoping that attending this ball will do the same for me and Lucky, please don't, because it's not going to happen.
Nikolas: No, Elizabeth, you’re far too selfish to go back to Lucky.
Elizabeth: Lucky and I agreed that having a divorce is the best thing for our family. We don’t want Cameron and Jake --
Nikolas: Right, right, but you slept with another man and lied nearly a year, and now he's the one walking away from the marriage with nothing!
Emily: Nikolas, no!
Nikolas: I'm sorry, that was uncalled for.
Elizabeth: I had no idea you felt this way.
Emily: Uh -- listen, Nikolas and I are always going to wish that you and Lucky could have made your marriage work, but we'd never judge or resent you for going through with the divorce.
Elizabeth: It doesn't sound that way.
Emily: These mood swings that Nikolas has been having have been causing him to lash out, Elizabeth, even at the people that he cares about the most. And, um – we’re getting him treatment.
Nikolas: Elizabeth -- ahem – please know that I don’t blame you for the divorce. If I implied otherwise I apologize -- and I hope that you are still going to come to the ball.
Elizabeth: I wouldn't miss it.
Nikolas: Thank you.
Emily sighs.
Emily: It's not too late to cancel.
Nikolas: No, the invitations have already been sent out.
Emily: It doesn’t matter, Nikolas, Alfred and I can call everybody on the guest list and cancel.
Nikolas: No, no, we're not going to go through all that trouble.
Emily: It's okay. I don't mind.
Nikolas: Why? Are you afraid I'm going to hurt someone?
Emily sighs.
Emily: I can't believe how gorgeous the house looks.
Nikolas: Mm-hmm.
Emily: But you know, it wouldn't that difficult to push the ball back --
Nikolas: No –
Emily: A couple of weeks. I mean, besides the flowers, everything can stay up.
Nikolas: No, no, Emily, I have no intention of letting this – this illness define me or force us to change our plans in any way.
Emily: Look, I appreciate that you're trying to give me a fairy-tale night to remember, but you don't have to pretend like everything's all right if it’s not.
Nikolas: I'm not going to give up on the things that bring me joy in my life, starting with you. You understand? I want nothing more than to dance with you in that ballroom tomorrow night and make at least one of your wishes come true.
Emily: Okay. So then that's what we'll do.
Nikolas: All right, I'm sorry.
Nikolas sighs.
Nikolas: Listen, I -- I've been thinking that once this thing is diagnosed and then hopefully treated, I may have to recuperate for a little while, and I thought instead of doing it here -- why don't you think of a place for us to go and take Spencer on a trip?
Emily: Okay. Uh, where do you want to go?
Nikolas: I don't care. Anywhere -- anywhere in the world. Just as long as we're all together.
