Nikolas: How can you be here right now?
Emily: This is our room.
Nikolas: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. If I'm crazy, I don't care.
Nikolas: It's a dream, right?
Emily: Hmm -- I don't think so.
Nikolas: But -- but I just -- I just came from your -- your funeral. You're -- you're dead, I -- I killed you.
Emily: Nikolas, you could never hurt me.
Nikolas: No, no, you walked into the ballroom. You -- I told you to leave so you'd be safe. And I grabbed you, I yelled at you, I blacked out. I don't -- Emily, I woke up. You were -- you were on the floor with a -- with a rope around your neck. I -- I tried to -- I tried to save you, but it was too late. You were already gone, and it was -- it was my fault.
Emily: Nikolas, you could never, ever hurt me, okay? Never.
Nikolas: I asked you to marry me.
Emily: And I said yes.
Nikolas: I put -- I put a ring on your finger. It was supposed to stay there forever. But when you died, I -- I kept it. I kept it for me as a memory of us.
Emily: Nikolas, I will always love you. That can never change.
Nikolas: Oh, God, oh, go oh, God, oh, God -- I don't want to wake up from this. I don't want to wake up from this, but I know I have to. I know I have to because the longer I stay with you, the worse it'll be when you're gone again, okay?
Emily: Nikolas, you're awake.
Nikolas: No, no, you can't be here! I want you to be here, but you can't be here. You're gone, you're dead --
Emily: I'm standing right here in front of you.
Nikolas: There was a funeral. There was police here for days, there was an investigation. Your friends, your family -- everybody's mourning you right now.
Emily: Okay, so maybe that was a dream. Nikolas -- look -- look at me. I'm touching your face, I'm touching your hands. Maybe it was just a --
Nikolas: You don't know how much I wanted to believe that this was a dream, how many times I screamed at myself to wake up so you'd be back with me again and this would all be over. You don't know how many times I did that!
Emily: Okay, okay. And now I am. So now I am.
Nikolas: Am I seeing you because -- because I feel guilty about killing you?
Emily: Nikolas, why do you keep saying that? You could never hurt me.
Nikolas: Or am I seeing you so -- so I don't feel guilty? So I can hear you say it wasn't my fault?
Emily: It wasn’t.
Nikolas: If I close my eyes, will you disappear?
Emily: Okay, try it, hmm? Here we go.
Emily chuckles.
Emily: You see? I'm not leaving you.
Nikolas: If you're real, why are you still wearing your gown?
Emily: Why shouldn't I be?
Nikolas: The ball was days ago.
Emily: Or maybe you've just had some terrible nightmare about finding me dead, because obviously I'm not.
Nikolas: What's the last thing you remember about the ball?
Emily: I came to find you, to see if you were all right.
Nikolas: And then what?
Emily: You were worried about me.
Nikolas: I was angry. I yelled at you.
Emily: Nikolas, you were upset, that's all.
Nikolas: And then I grabbed you, I hurt you, didn't I?
Emily: You're not listening to me. You would never hurt me.
Nikolas: Has anyone else seen you?
Knock on door.
Alfred: I brought a light supper, Sir -- may I come in?
Nikolas: Just a minute, Alfred.
Alfred: You've eaten so little since Miss Emily's passing, Sir. I realize what a painful time it is for you, but you must keep up your strength.
Nikolas: Uh -- yes. Thank you.
Alfred: If I may, Sir, the service for Miss Emily was beautiful, but there are no words to fill the loss Miss Emily's passing left behind.
Nikolas: No. No, there sure aren’t.
Alfred: If there's anything else I can do for you --
Nikolas: No, thank you, I'll call you.
Alfred: Yes, Sir.
Nikolas: Well, I guess that settles it. I really am insane.
Nikolas: I've heard of people thinking that they've caught a glimpse of a -- a loved one who's died -- in a crowd or across the street. Some people even claim to have seen ghosts. But they can't touch them like this.
Emily: Well, then I must be real.
Nikolas: No, you can't be.
Emily: But all of your senses keep telling you that I am, Nikolas.
Nikolas: But I'm the only one who can see you. So unless I'm having the most intense real dream of my life, the only explanation is I'm losing my mind.
Emily: No, you're not insane.
Nikolas: But we both know something's wrong with me. I black out, I hurt people -- look what I've done. Look at what I've done to people. I stabbed Jerry and almost threw Sam off the --
Emily: But they aren't me!
Nikolas: They are you. They are you -- because I hurt you, too.
Emily: At the ball, you had a blackout. You and Jason fought. He tied you to a chair.
Nikolas: And I told you to leave me there.
Emily: Yeah, and I couldn't stay away. I came back to make sure that you were all right.
Nikolas: Emily, I grabbed you, I yelled at you, I told you that I couldn't protect you anymore. Do you remember that?
Emily: Yeah. You grabbed me, but it -- it wasn't --
Nikolas: What?
Emily: Uh -- I don't know, I -- I can't remember anything after that.
Nikolas: Well, neither can I.
Emily sighs.
Nikolas: So sometime between that moment and the moment I found you on the floor, I must've strangled you.
Emily: No, but you don't remember killing me. You don't remember killing me, Nikolas, because you couldn't kill me!
Nikolas: Emily --
Nikolas: What is it?
Emily: I'm still dead.
Emily: I don't want my life to be over. Nikolas, I want a future that I can share with you.
Nikolas: Emily, Emily, wait, wait. I can talk to you. I can hold you. Yes. After these last few days of missing you and being alone, that's -- that's all that really matters, isn't it? I -- I don't care about the hows and whys that brought you back here. I don't even care if I'm insane. You're here. You're here. You're here. You're here.
