November 26, 2007 Screencaps

Knock on door.

Detective Harper: Detective Harper, P.C.P.D. I questioned you at Wyndemere --

Carly: Yes, I remember. Come in, please.

Detective Harper: Thank you.

Carly: Do you have a suspect?

Detective Harper: We're doing some follow-up interviews.

Carly: I already told you everything I know.

Detective Harper: You and Emily Quartermaine were strangled in the same house on the same night. I am trying to understand how the two are related.

Sam sighs.

Sam: Nikolas? Alfred said that you have been spending a lot of time in here and -- well, you won't let the staff clean up.

Nikolas: No. I want the ballroom to stay just as it was when Emily last saw it.

Sam: He said that you're not eating. When's the last time that you slept?

Nikolas: Trying not to.

Sam: Why is that?

Nikolas: Because every time I fall asleep, I lose her all over again.

Luke: Uh -- oh, cowboy.

Lucky: Hey, how you doing?

Luke: Better now. Where you been?

Lucky: I've had a lot to deal with.

Luke: Yeah, I know, I'm sorry. You and Emily have been friends since practically the first day we came here. So how you doing? I hear you're out there on the case, trying to find out who killed her.

Lucky: Em-- Emily's dead?

Monitor beeps.

Luke: Lulu and Tracy told me that you were out trying to solve Emily's murder.

Lucky: When -- when did it happen?

Luke: At the party at some point. My time frame is a little whacked. What are you wearing? You're still in your tux?

Lucky: Elizabeth and I, we -- we were -- we pretty much ended everything that night. Are -- are you sure Emily's dead? Dad, maybe you're pretty weak right now and you're all mixed up --

Luke: Cowboy -- Emily didn't make it off the island. She was strangled, probably by Anthony Za -- Zacchar -- Zacchara.

Monitor beeps rapidly.

Lucky: Damn it. No!

Tracy: Calm down. You want to give your father another heart attack? I'm calling the nurse. Sweetheart, shh.

Nikolas: Have you spoken to the Quartermaines? The funeral will be on Wednesday the 28th at the Queen of Angels.

Sam: Yeah, I know. I will definitely be there, and I think Alexis is going to be there, too, depending if she's out of the hospital.

Nikolas: Yeah, okay. It's generous of the Quartermaines to allow me to attend, given that I wasn't her husband.

Sam: You were engaged to her. Why wouldn't they expect you to be there?

Nikolas: Emily's family has never really approved of me. Being a Cassadine, I can't say I blame them. I mean, we're not the most stable bunch, are we, Sam? She married me anyway. Yep. I had the honor of being her husband, and I trampled all over it. She didn't even want to have this crazy ball. She tried to convince me to cancel it, but I wouldn't listen to her.

Sam: No, Nikolas, you've got to stop. I have done what you're doing a million times. You think "if only this, if only that." You are going to drive yourself crazy thinking that way, and you're going to make the pain worse, and you're going to make the loss feel even deeper. Emily loved you. You -- hold on to that. She loved you up until the very end.

Nikolas: I can't know that.

Sam: Why not?

Nikolas: Because I don't remember what happened in the end.

Detective Harper: Preliminary forensics indicate that Emily was strangled, as were you. Now, is there anything that you can tell me to describe your attacker?

Carly: It was dark. You know, it happened so fast, I didn't see his face -- assuming it was a man. I just -- I -- I couldn't breathe, and -- and I just passed out, you know.

Detective Harper: So it could've been the same person who strangled Emily.

Carly: Anthony Zacchara killed Emily, and there's no way he could've been the one who attacked me.

Detective Harper: Why are you so sure?

Carly: Because when I was attacked, Anthony Zacchara was at the top of the house trying to kill Jason Morgan and Elizabeth Webber.

Detective Harper: Are you saying there were two killers running around Wyndemere that night?

Jason: You know, I keep -- I keep going over what happened in my head just to try to get the sequence right. You know, I wanted to take Emily down to the stables, but she didn't -- she didn't want to leave without Nikolas, and -- and maybe Emily and I got into a little bit of an argument. I might've put my hand on her arm, and that's when Nikolas came at me out of nowhere. The guy was absolutely crazy with rage. It was all I could do to fight him off. Then finally, I knocked him out, I tied him up to the chair, but Emily still didn't want to leave him.

Sonny: Did you have to drag her away?

Jason: No, I didn’t. Nikolas -- he woke up, and he told her to go, and I took Emily down to the stables. When I got back, he was gone.

Sonny: Could he have gotten free on his own?

Jason: I don't see how he could've, but I know it wasn't Emily who -- who cut him loose because there wasn't enough time.

Sonny: Did you see anyone else?

Jason: Johnny Zacchara. We split up to look for -- we split up to look for Anthony. Then I went through the main entry, I saw Carly with Jax and Jerry. I mean, we couldn't have talked more than five, 10 minutes at the most. And that's when I heard Nikolas screaming Emily's name.

Sonny: Well, nothing you just said makes me doubt that Zacchara killed Emily.

Jason: Why leave Nikolas alive?

Sonny: Well, Anthony's certifiable, he hates women. Maybe he felt that Emily was the only one that deserved to die.

Jason: I don't know -- I don't know what to do about any of this. I just keep seeing Emily lying there dead with that mark on her neck. And I keep thinking how afraid she must've been.

Sonny: Do you have any indication how the Zaccharas are handling this?

Jason: Everything's fine business-wise, Bernie says there's no problems.

Sonny: Well, that's not going to last if Johnny takes over -- he's going to want to establish himself. If not, Trevor’s going to want a new puppet.

Jason: What do you want to do about Trevor?

Sonny: Okay, first of all, whatever I do, I don't want you handling this.

Jason: I -- I can do my job.

Sonny: Your sister was just murdered. You probably haven't slept or eaten, and I know you're probably thinking about those 10 minutes -- Emily would still be alive if you waited in that ballroom. You're probably thinking about what you meant to her and all the good times you had. How beautiful she was, and now she's gone, destroyed. If you try to go back to work, you're going to get yourself killed, and I know that's not what Emily would want, so I'm not going to let you.

Jason: I'm going to find out who murdered her.

Sonny: It's -- it's probably Zacchara. But, look, revenge does not lessen the pain. I know, I've lived it. Only thing that's going to make this better is time. All we can both do is pray and hope that what -- what people say is true -- that she is in heaven, and that she's at peace.

Kate: How would you feel about -- oh. Uh -- I didn't realize you were here, I'm sorry. I'm sorry to hear about Emily. She seemed like a really wonderful person, Jason.

Jason: She was. I'll call Bernie.

Kate: Did I offend him?

Sonny: No, no. He's -- he probably doesn't even know his -- what he was doing just because he's -- he's thinking about Emily.

Kate: It's just so terrible. I don't know how anyone recovers from something like that.

Sonny: You just do. It's hell, but, you know -- especially for him, he doesn't talk about it.

Scene continues with Kate and Sonny.

Tracy: Perhaps your father neglected to mention that he's had multiple coronaries and angioplasty and he is awaiting a quadruple bypass.

Luke: He is awaiting nothing. I'm fine, stop worrying.

Lucky: I hadn't heard about Emily, that's all, but -- it's kind of a shock, but I don't want anything to happen to you.

Luke: I'm sorry, cowboy, I didn't know. I thought -- I thought you knew. I was going on what people told me.

Tracy: Your father isn't in very good shape; I didn't want to tell him that his son was unaccounted for.

Lucky: It's okay, I understand.

Luke: I had a heart attack, I didn't get stupid.

Tracy: Luke, you're supposed to stay calm.

Luke: Yeah? Well, nothing raises my blood pressure like being lied to.

Tracy: Lucky, I'm sorry you found out about Emily this way, it's a terrible situation. I'm sure you need to be alone to sort it out.

Luke: Stay here -- if you want.

Lucky: Tracy's right. I need to think things through, so -- um -- you know what? I'm going to just check back in with you later, okay?

Luke: Okay, cowboy.

Tracy: Your heart did not enjoy that encounter.

Luke: I thought I could trust you.

Tracy: You can trust me -- to fight for your life, and if that means saying whatever I have to say or doing whatever I have to do, I will do it in the service of keeping you alive.

Elizabeth: Lucky. I'm really relieved to see you. Are you okay?

Lucky: Why do you care?

Elizabeth: I don't know if you've heard, but --

Lucky: That Emily was murdered? And where was I when my oldest friend needed me? Well, I just found out that my son really wasn't mine, and the woman I've loved for years was a lying bitch.

Elizabeth: Okay, I don't want to do this right now. I was just hoping that --

Lucky: You know what? Maybe I could've saved Emily if I hadn't been blindsided by your lies.

Elizabeth: She loved you, she loved me; she wouldn't want us fighting.

Lucky: And now she's gone.

Sam: I'm so glad to see you. Where have you been?

Lucky: Around.

Sam: Look, I don't -- I don't know if you've heard, but --

Lucky: Emily's dead.

Sam: Yeah. I am so sorry.

Lucky: You know, I knew Emily before Nikolas -- or Elizabeth. We were best friends when we were kids. She believed that I would help her out at all.

Sam: Hey -- hey, it was Zacchara. Look at me, Lucky, it was Zacchara. He was crazy, and he probably killed her out of spite or for no reason at all, but you are not responsible for her death.

Lucky: Everything we had -- the history, the memories --

Lucky: They're all tainted now.

Jason: I want you to tell me what happened when Emily died.

Nikolas: I don't remember, Jason.

Jason: Start at the beginning.

Nikolas: The beginning of what? The beginning of the blackouts or the beginning of this night from hell? All right. I asked your sister to marry me. She said yes, even -- even though I was ill and we didn't know how much time we'd have to spend together. I thought I was going to die of this -- whatever it is. I didn't know it would be Emily.

Jason: I need to know what happened --

Nikolas: I -- I --

Jason: In this ballroom. I was trying to get Emily out of the house. We were arguing, you came in, and you jumped me.

Nikolas: I don't remember what --

Jason: We tore -- look at this place -- we tore it apart!

Nikolas: I don't remember --

Jason: You knocked her down!

Nikolas: Jason -- that's why they call it a blackout! And who the hell are you to stand there asking me questions when you claim the first 20 years of your life are gone?

Jason: I tied you to a chair, I tried to get Emily to leave, and you woke up.

Nikolas: Yes, I know. I saw the marks on her face -- when I hit her. I told her to leave with you, Jason. You were supposed to keep her safe.

Jason: I know that.

Nikolas: What, you're too busy to guard your own sister? Did you have something more important you had to do?

Jason: No, I left Emily down at the stables, that's --

Nikolas: Yeah, I know. I know you did, but don't you know your sister well enough to know that she would come back here for me? You were the one who could've kept her safe, but you left her there.

Jason: What's the last thing you remember before you found Emily?

Nikolas: No, no, no, I want you to take responsibility for once. I want to hear the words -- "Emily would still be alive if I'd have stayed with her." I want -- I want to hear those words.

Jason: My sister would still be alive if I'd stayed with her.

Nikolas: That's right. But you left, and she came back here -- and I killed her.

Monica: Luke Spencer's chart, please.

Nurse: Dr. Quartermaine, I'm so sorry for your loss. All the nurses really loved Emily -- the whole staff did.

Monica: Thank you.

Tracy: Monica?

Monica: Tracy.

Tracy: What are you doing here?

Monica: Well, I am head of cardiology. It is my job to review cases and give second opinions.

Tracy: Monica, you just lost Emily, you should be home.

Monica: Don't tell me how to manage grief, Tracy, please.

Tracy: Monica, grief can't be managed, it has to be endured.

Monica: What are you talking about? You don't know anything about it. Both of your sons are very much alive. I've lost a husband, three children, one that might as well just be dead. Don't you dare tell me how to grieve for Emily.

Jason: Do you remember killing Emily?

Nikolas: I -- I don't remember anything!

Jason: Did you see her in this ballroom after you got free from the chair?

Nikolas: I don't remember hurting her. I don't even know how I hurt --

Jason: Did you see her in the ballroom?

Nikolas: Why don't you just go ahead and kill me? That's what you want anyway, isn't it? Go ahead. I probably deserve it anyway.

Jason: All right, what -- what do you remember?

Nikolas: All right. I knew I was getting worse. Emily wanted to cancel the ball, but I insisted on having it. I willfully ignored my own condition. I may not have been the one who strangled her, but I was too sick to save her. So either way, it's my fault --

Jason: You know what? I don't need to hear that you feel guilty. I need to know who killed my sister! Did you see her in this ballroom while she was still alive, Nikolas?

Nikolas: It doesn't -- it doesn't matter. It's too late. You failed her while she was alive, the same way I did.

Monica: Whatever you did that caused these numbers to shoot up like this, don't do it again.

Luke: I didn't expect to see you here today. I'm sorry about Emily.

Monica: Yes, well, save your condolences for Edward. I am here to give you a medical opinion. If you don't want it, then that's fine, because I have a lot of patients waiting.

Tracy: Go ahead. We won't keep you.

Luke: Oh, hold on, please. Come on, wife. Let's hear what the doctor has to say.

Monica: I agree completely with Dr. Julian. Your heart's a mess. And if you don't get a quadruple bypass, you most likely will die.

Nikolas: You can ask as many times as you want, as many ways as you want, but I didn't see who killed Emily. I was unconscious, and when I woke up, she was dead.

Detective Harper: You were pretty angry with Jason Morgan just now.

Nikolas: I -- yeah, I think he could've protected her better, knowing that I wasn't able to.

Detective Harper: How would you characterize the relationship between Jason and his adopted sister?

Nikolas: Jason was always loving and kind towards Emily, he would never hurt her. And I can tell you he didn't kill her.

Detective Harper: Oh, you sound pretty certain -- for a guy who can't remember how his fiancée died.

Elizabeth: Can I get you anything? You want some coffee or water?

Jason: No, thanks. It's a nice place.

Elizabeth: Em found it. She denied pulling any strings, but I'm sure she used the Quartermaine name to badger the real estate agent into giving me the first look.

Jason: I'm glad she could help.

Elizabeth: Where have you been?

Jason: I went to tell Monica about Emily. Then I went for a ride -- I don't even really know where. At 3:00 this morning, I wound up in front of Queen of Angels. Doors were locked, but I got inside, and I just sat in the dark and thought about Emily. And I tried to remember as many days as I could and to be grateful that she was my sister, and I got the chance to -- to love her. But I can't stop thinking about how it felt. When I picked her up from the floor, I looked at her face and I just -- I just knew.

Elizabeth: Emily understood grief and loss. But she had this amazing ability to focus on the good. That's what she'd want you to do -- remember her with love and -- and then try and live your own life to the fullest.

Jason: I don't know how.

Elizabeth: Well, I know somebody who might be able to help. Jake's upstairs if you want to see him.

Sonny: Sorry I missed Thanksgiving.

Michael: Eh, it's all right.

Sonny: I really wish I could've been with you guys, you know?

Michael: We missed you.

Sonny: Yeah.

Carly: We made this. Hmm.

Sonny: Wow, that's cool, right? What, did you guys draw hands and feet on that thing?

Michael: Yeah, it was Morgan's idea.

Carly chuckles.

Sonny: Very cool, very cool.

Michael: How did you get hurt?

Carly: You know what, guys? Want that? We have something, um, sad that we have to tell you about.

Michael: I knew something was wrong.

Sonny: There was -- uh -- there was trouble at the Wyndemere party -- a bad man came into the house. Several people got hurt, including me. And, unfortunately, Emily died.

Michael: What? How -- how? Did someone kill her?

Carly: You know what? Emily's in heaven. And I want you to know that she loved you both very, very much, and she always will. Okay?

Sonny: Maybe your mom can take Morgan upstairs and say a prayer for her.

Carly: Yeah. You want to go upstairs with me? Yeah? Okay. Come on. Get your turkey.

Michael: This the same man who killed Leticia?

Sonny: We think so.

Michael: Why didn't you kill him? Why did you let him get Emily?

Sonny: We're not -- I'm not going to do this with you right now, Michael.

Michael: You know how it's supposed to be.

Sonny: How is it supposed to be?

Michael: If someone hurts you or your family, you're supposed to kill them.

Sonny: Michael -- come back -- Michael, come back here. Michael!

Waltz music plays.

Nikolas: Emily? Get away from him.

Emily gasps.

Nikolas: No! No! No, Em, get away! Emily?
