Emily: Jason didn't get here until after Dad died.
Monica: Oh --
Edward: Oh, God.
Monica: He was there. He came to see Alan, and I sent him away to get his injuries tended to. I didn't want Alan to wake up and see him all bloodied like that.
Edward: You had no way of knowing that he wasn't going to be back in time.
Monica: No, I knew -- I knew Alan was weak, and I knew how much he wanted to see Jason.
Edward: No, I am to blame. I am to blame. I was a poor father, and I set such a terrible example that -- that Alan never even knew how to parent.
Emily: He knew how much you loved him.
Edward: Look, I had so many expectations that Alan couldn't meet, and he turned around and he treated A.J. and Jason the same way. And after the accident, Alan made it very clear that he could not accept the kind of man that Jason had become.
Emily: Grandfather! We can't do this, okay? He's gone. He would want us to help each other.
Nikolas: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
Monica: I got a chance to say all the things I needed to Alan. And, actually, I think we felt closer to each other than we had in years.
Edward: Hmm.
Emily: Mom --
Monica: I just want to remember that moment, Emily, when I told him I loved him, and he told me he loved me.
Edward: I -- I need to say goodbye to my son.
Dillon: Mom -- is Alan -- I'm sorry.
Nikolas: Listen, if there's anything I can do for you or your family --
Monica: Oh -- nikolas, I'm just glad that you are back in Emily's life. It's -- uh -- going to be a difficult time, and I'm -- I'm glad you're here for her support.
Emily: Mom, you don't have to take care of everyone else.
Monica: Well, it helps a little, you know? I'm going to miss your father. But right now, there are things that just have to be dealt with.
Emily: Well, at least let me handle the paperwork.
Monica: Okay. Oh --
Alice: Oh, I'm so sorry. Mr. Alan was a good man.
Monica: Yes. Yes, Alice, he was.
Jason: How's Monica?
Emily: Uh -- she's calm. You know, and she's trying to take care of everything. She can't feel it yet, I don't think it's hit her.
Jason: I just want to thank you for sending Spinelli to find me. I'm sorry I didn't make it back in time.
Emily: Jase -- his heart failed. You couldn't have stopped it. You know, we thought he was getting better. He -- he was smiling -- he was even teasing Mom -- and then all of a sudden he just arrested. They brought him back, b he never regained consciousness. He wasn't scared. He wasn't in any pain. And he just slipped away -- it was very peaceful.
Jason sighs.
Jason: Thank you for -- for being with him.
Emily: He was the best dad to me. I -- I know he made a lot of mistakes with you and A.J., but he loved us, Jase. Maybe that's what we can take away from all of this -- how much our dad loved us.
Emily: Hey.
Nikolas: Would you like to be left alone?
Emily: No. I -- I walked in here and -- and I saw the room was empty, and it almost felt like a dream, and that dad was going to walk around that corner and ask me about school and -- and tell some corny joke and -- and I'd laugh. I'd feel safe and loved.
Nikolas: I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry.
Emily: He was still here, Nikolas.
Nikolas: It's okay.
Emily: I could still feel him.
