Emily: Oh, my God.

Nikolas: Emily, I'm sorry.

Robin: Emily, I'm -- I'm sorry you had to see that.

Emily: I need to speak to Nikolas -- alone.

Nikolas: I'm sorry, we didn't want it to happen this way.

Emily: No, but you just did it.

Robin: Um, Emily, I'm -- I'm sorry. Uh -- I know that you saved my life at the Metro Court, and -- and I owe you, and you probably feel really betrayed right now.

Emily: This is between me and Nikolas, and I need to speak to him privately.

Nikolas: All right, it's all right.

Robin: You sure?

Nikolas: Yeah. Yeah, I owe her an explanation.

Robin: Okay.

Nikolas: I'm sorry, Emily. This is -- this is the last thing that I wanted to do --

Emily: Now, tell me the truth.

Nikolas: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Emily, I shouldn't have let that happened.

Emily: Let "what" happened?

Nikolas: Look -- look, I care about you, Emily. I do, I always have, but -- but the truth is I -- I love Robin now, and I just -- I can't --

Emily: What --

Nikolas: I can't do it.

Emily: What, just like that?

Nikolas: I want -- I wanted you to hear it from -- from me. Instead, you -- you had to hear it from Patrick, and -- and, obviously, you just walked in on Robin and me, so I --

Emily: No -- no, I -- I don't believe that there is a "you and Robin," Nikolas. Something else is going on.

Nikolas: I -- I know it's a shock to you, Emily, but I --

Emily: Look, you're the one that wanted me back, Nikolas -- even Alfred can attest to that. The times that you invented reasons for me to come back here to Wyndemere, the wonderful Christmas that we shared, wanting me to go to Russia with you to get Spencer back from Helena.

Nikolas: That -- that's just it -- I think -- I think we did too much together. It happened too quickly --

Emily: I -- I tried to accept that maybe you were ill, maybe you were under pressure from your work, but it just doesn't fit with who you are, Nikolas, and neither does this so-called relationship with Robin, so tell me, what is going on?

Nikolas: I just -- I told you what's going on. I don't know how many other ways to say it.

Emily: Nikolas, listen to me. We agreed to always be honest with each so, please, tell me the truth. What changed the day that we painted Lucky and Elizabeth's baby room? In the morning you loved me, but in the evening you didn't.

Nikolas: Okay, okay, you want details, I'll give them to you. I blew up at you the other night because -- because I realized that my feelings for Robin weren't just -- they weren't just going to disappear, they weren't just going away.

Emily: What feelings?

Nikolas: Okay -- all right. Uh -- I started visiting her at the hospital after the Metro Court, and -- and we started -- we started talking about the feelings that we had for each other years ago when she was helping me with the aphasia and -- and it just -- it just sort of took off from there and -- and didn't stop. But -- but if -- if I'm being honest with myself, I -- we didn't -- we didn't want it too. The only thing that I -- that I really regret is -- is how much it's hurting you right now.

Emily: I don't believe it.

Nikolas: I broke your heart once, Emily. The last thing I want to do is do it again.

Emily: Nikolas, I remember how it felt when you left me for Courtney, and this is so different. I still love you. And I'm not giving up on you, no matter what you say or do.

James: Wow. Wowee. So either you're a terrible actor, or Emily is an extraordinary woman -- perhaps it's a little bit of both. But please tell me, what could you possibly have done to Emily that she could warrant such faith in you?

Robin: Is he here?

Nikolas: Oh, Mr. Brosnan?

Robin: You know what? I don't even care if he hears, because it's what he wanted anyway. Patrick is furious with me. He keeps making sarcastic remarks and glaring at me every chance that he gets. I have to see him all day long, and he can barely even telerate my presence.

Nikolas: I'm sorry, Robin.

Robin: I just want to be able to say, you know, "I love you. I am not in love with Nikolas, I'm just --"

Nikolas: Yeah, I know.

Robin: "Being forced to pretend that I do." But you know, I would never do that. I would never -- I would never risk you getting killed.

Nikolas: I'm so sorry that you got pulled into this.

Robin: No, I'm sorry. I -- God, here I am going on and on about myself. What happened with Emily?

Nikolas: She didn't believe it. Huh. She wouldn't believe that I would betray her yet again.

Robin: Wow. Huh.

Nikolas: Yeah.

Robin: Well, what did you say?

Nikolas: What could I say? I just kept up the -- kept up the ruse, and she still -- she still said that she wouldn't give up on me.

Robin: Nikolas that's great.

Nikolas: Yeah, right. But, hey, Patrick will do the same --

Robin: Yeah --

Nikolas: Once the real story comes out, I'm sure.

Robin: No. We're not like you and Emily.

Nikolas: What?

Robin: You guys have been through everything -- married, divorced. You've also been with other people. It's -- it's not the same for me and Patrick.

Nikolas: That's not true.

Robin: It took Patrick a really long time to trust me. And now that that trust is broken, it doesn't matter what the reason is. The damage is done.

Patrick: Hey. You see Nikolas?

Emily: Mm-hmm. He said what you told me that he'd say, that he and Robin have known each other for years, hey connected during the hostage crisis, and they want to explore their feelings.

Patrick: I know. I'm sorry. It hurts.

Emily: I don't believe it. Patrick, something else is going on.

Patrick: Yeah, I thought so, too, but trust me, it's just denial.

Emily: No, Nikolas is lying to me for a reason, Patrick. I don't know what it is, but I'm planning to find out. Damn.

Patrick: Hey, are you okay?

Emily: Yeah, I'm fine.

Patrick: Come here.

Emily sighs.
