Emily: Hi.

Monica: It's okay.

Emily: I -- no, I --

Monica: It's all right --

Emily: I got here as fast --

Monica: It's all right. Everything is under control. I didn't think I would be asking you this, Emily, but are you sure you want to be a doctor?

Emily: What -- Mom, that's not fair. You know how much this means to me.

Monica: I thought I did.

Emily: I'm sorry about today. It's not going to happen again.

Monica: Yeah -- no, it's been a pattern, Emily. It's been going on for months.

Emily: I don't know what happened. My pager was off, I didn't turn it off.

Monica: Emily, come on. This isn't grade school. You're a first-year resident. "My dog ate my homework" doesn't cut it anymore.

Emily: I'm not making excuses. I'm just telling you what happened.

Monica: Okay, Em, look. You can be a doctor and have a personal life, you really can, but you have to learn to balance it out. Now, if you are trying to get back with Nikolas, that is one thing, that's your choice.

Emily: Whoa, whoa, whoa, oh. Who said anything about trying to get back together with Nikolas?

Monica: Well, I just assumed you were. You were just at his house, weren't you?

Emily: No. You know, he's been dealing with a lot of stuff and I'm just trying to help him through it. We're friends, Mom, and you know, that's -- that's it.

Monica: Okay. Well, then, my point is, Emily, you cannot do medicine part way -- not as a resident and not as a doctor. You have to make up your mind or stop wasting the hospital's time.

Emily: Hey.

Elizabeth: Hey.

Emily: I heard there was a bus accident.

Elizabeth: Yeah. Looks like a dozen wounded, no fatalities, that everyone is expected to recover.

Emily: Hey, I'll get -- divorce papers?

Elizabeth: Yeah. My marriage is over. There's no point in dragging it out.

Emily: Wow. I'm so sorry. Elizabeth, Nikolas told me that Lucky's back on drugs and he accidentally knocked you down.

Elizabeth: Yeah, he's having a hard time accepting that we split up. And I moved back in with my grandmother, and Lucky practically stormed the house. He came over yelling and banging down the door. It was -- it was pretty scary and I just don't want my son around behavior like that.

Emily: I get that you need distance now --

Elizabeth: Emily, I told him that if he ever touches those pills again, that I would leave him.

Emily: The rehab place that Nikolas and I found is holding a spot for Lucky.

Elizabeth: Good, good. I'm glad and I really hope he goes, but I just -- it's not going to change anything for me.

Emily: Are you sure?

Elizabeth: I just can't go on like this anymore. I have given him so many chances and every time he has screwed up.

Emily: Elizabeth, if you divorce him now, it's like you've given up. You've resigned yourself to the fact that he's never going to get clean. Is that what you really believe?

Elizabeth: I don't know.

Elizabeth: I have stood by Lucky for as long as I can. I have been supportive, sympathetic, helpful, but enough is enough.

Emily: He's sick.

Elizabeth: Well, he can't use that as an excuse for everything he's done -- like sleeping with Maxie.

Emily: She manipulated him.

Elizabeth: And that makes it okay?

Emily: No, no, not at all. Elizabeth, Lucky was wrong, absolutely. I'm just saying that --

Elizabeth: I know -- that she took advantage of his dependency and she seduced him and she got him pills and she worked off of his -- his jealousy of Patrick and Jason.

Emily: I -- I can understand Patrick. He's been dogging you for months, but why Jason? What does Lucky see there?

Elizabeth: Well, you know, Jason saved me from Manny, and Lucky didn't.

Emily: What? So what? I mean, it's not like Jason would ever hit on you and you'd never cheat on Lucky. Lucky knows that.

Elizabeth: Well, those pills have brought out the worst in him -- the anger, the lies, the paranoia.

Emily: More reasons that you need to help him, Elizabeth.

Elizabeth: I can't. I can't, Em. I'm just done. Okay? I -- I pray and hope that he will -- he will get help and he'll go to rehab, but I -- he has to want it. I can't be the one to save him. I just need to take care of myself right now. It's a little selfish, isn't it?

Emily: No. I'm just wondering if you still love him.

Elizabeth: Does it really matter?

Emily: You need to ask yourself how you're going to feel if Lucky gets clean. Be sure of what you're ending, Elizabeth, because it might be too late to get him back.

Lucky: Hey, have you seen Elizabeth?

Emily: Nikolas has been trying to find you.

Lucky: Okay, just tell him I'm dealing with it and not to worry, okay?

Emily: Lucky, we're worried about you. We love you. We care about you.

Lucky: Okay. Where's my wife?

Emily sighs.

Emily: She doesn't want to see you. Don't make it worse.

Lucky: Okay, it doesn't have to be this way. We can do it the hard way or the easy way.

Emily: I think she was headed for the courthouse.

Lucky: Why?

Emily: This is between you and Elizabeth.

Lucky: Okay, don't --

Emily: I'm not getting --

Lucky: Stop wasting time. I'm sure she told you. What's going on? Why is she at the courthouse?

Emily: She can't handle it anymore, Lucky. She wants a divorce. I saw her filling out the preliminary paperwork.

Lucky: Okay, thanks.

Phone rings.

Lucky: Hello?

Maxie: It's me.

Lucky: Oh, listen, I don't have time for this.

Maxie: I'm in our special place.

Lucky: What are you doing?

Maxie: You don't have to worry, Lucky. I'm not going to bother you anymore. I'm letting go. I just -- I wanted to tell you that I love you.

Lucky: Maxie, what's going on?

Maxie: I'm not scared. It's kind of like falling asleep. I just wanted to hear your voice before --

Lucky: Maxie? Maxie -- Maxie? What -- what have you done? Maxie? Maxie! Maxie?

Knock on door.

Lucky: Maxie! Maxie, wake up. Maxie, wake up. You got to wake up. Maxie? Come on. Come on. Wake up.
