Courtney: I mean, did Emily -- did she say how the miscarriage happened?
Nikolas: No, no, just that it had. We need to get back. Hi, this is Nikolas Cassadine. There's been an emergency at home and I need to check out in a half an hour. All right, thank you. What's wrong?
Courtney: Nikolas, I can't do it. I can't go back.
Sonny: I know I can't let Carly run around, you know, causing accidents where people get hurt or end up dead, but then again, I don't know how to take that next step to locking her up.
Emily: Okay, I called Nikolas and I told him about the miscarriage. I'm sure he'll tell Courtney.
Sonny: You okay?
Emily: It's not about me tonight.
Sonny: You got something to say to me?
Emily: You sure you want to hear it?
Sonny: Well, I'm asking.
Emily: All right. Carly caused the accident that led to Elizabeth losing the baby.
Sonny: She didn't mean to do it.
Emily: But she did, Sonny. She's out of control, yours or hers. You have to know that now. You no longer have a choice. You've got to have Carly committed.
Courtney: I know what it feels like to lose a child, okay, and right now Elizabeth is just one big raw nerve and she's probably questioning every choice she has ever made, and the last person she needs to deal with right now is me. I'm sure that Jax and Elizabeth would appreciate me keeping my distance more than anything. Maybe it's the only way I can honor the baby.
Nikolas: All right. I mean, from your point of view, that makes sense. And I really don't want to leave you here alone, but --
Courtney: No, no, no --
Nikolas: I have to go back.
Courtney: Hey, hey, it's not necessary to explain, really. I mean, your place is with Elizabeth and Lucky and Emily. You have to go.
Sonny: I feel terrible for Elizabeth. Losing a baby before it's even born is the worst thing that can happen. But locking Carly up is not going to bring the baby back. Carly's gotten so much better after the accident. She's calming down, all right? She knows she can't act out like that again. She's going to stay put.
Reese: Are you sure you can trust her with that? Even with the best of intentions, she's not exactly in control.
Emily: I agree with Reese.
Sonny: I -- I realize how difficult this is for you. Your best friends just lost a baby they built their entire future around and you got people screaming to God trying to find the answers, and you know the truth and you're not saying anything. Unless you've decided to change your mind on that?
Emily: I won't tell anyone that Carly caused the accident. But you need to understand, if Carly’s behavior hurts anyone else I love or even someone I don't, all bets are off, okay? I'll have Carly committed if you won’t.
Sonny: Fair enough. I mean, you know what, it was Durant. He's the one who forced her into that street. I am making progress with her.
Phone rings
Sonny: Hello?
Max: Hey, you need to get home, and fast. Carly's flipping out. It's really bad.
Nikolas: When I first moved to Port Charles, I -- I didn't have any friends. I was the outsider, the dreaded Cassadine. Lucky was the one with all the friends, and they were loyal to him.
Courtney: Yeah, so -- so what flipped?
Nikolas: What flipped? I don't know, really. In retrospect, it seems like I all of a sudden just -- I was accepted and blessed with the three best friends that anyone could ever have.
Courtney: Yeah, the Four Musketeers, right? Yeah, I have been on the outside and looked in on your little clique plenty of times, you know, busing tables at Kelly’s. Seeing the four of you, it's like you're in your own little world, like you complete each other and you don't need anybody else.
Nikolas: It wasn't always harmonious like that. I mean, there were times where one of us was, you know, out of touch with the other one, but when it counted, we had each other's backs, and it counts now.
Courtney: Which is why you need to go. Piece of advice -- protect your heart.
Nikolas: What do you mean, protect my heart? From my friends, from my brother?
Courtney: It's just Lucky wasn't exactly thrilled with the way Emily got hurt, and they probably know that we've spent the last few days together.
Nikolas: Yeah.
Courtney: They might not want you around right now.
Nikolas: I know that. That's a chance that I'm going to have to take though, because if the situations were reversed, I'd want them with me.
Courtney: Including Emily?
Nikolas: Does that bother you?
Courtney: No. I mean, I envy the connection that you two have. You became friends before you were lovers. Maybe that's what it takes to survive the pain that couples inflict on each other. I never really got that until now.
Nikolas: What are you saying, exactly?
Courtney: I want to support you through this, and the others, too, if they'll let me. I do. I mean, I need to start facing my life however -- however it ends up, and I can't do that from here.
Nikolas: Okay. Okay. Then we'd better start packing. Wait, wait, come here. Thank you so much.
Emily: Is Elizabeth having the D&C?
Lucky: Yeah, she just left a few minutes ago.
Emily: Is it okay if I hang out? I want to be here when Elizabeth gets back.
Lucky: Yeah, it's what we both expect. You don't have to ask.
Emily sighs
Emily: How's she holding up?
Lucky: Like you would imagine. Elizabeth is devastated. I mean, after everything that happened with the pregnancy -- the confusion, the pressure, the fighting -- we made it this far. Everything about hope and the future, and now this.
Emily: Doesn't seem fair, does it?
Lucky: Yeah. The worst part is that Elizabeth is looking for ways to make the miscarriage her fault, like she did something wrong.
Emily: I think that's a normal reaction, you know, at least initially, but we all know that that isn't true, and it's up to us to make Elizabeth realize that it was an accident and that it's nothing that anyone did.
Jax: Yeah, except the guy who was driving the car.
Jax: Sorry. Didn't mean to leave like that.
Lucky: You're entitled.
Emily: No need to apologize.
Lucky: Hey, are you all right? I mean, are you in any pain?
Elizabeth: Just empty.
Jax: Hey, is there anything at all I can do?
Elizabeth: Money won't fix this, Jax. I'm sorry.
Jax: No, no, it's -- it's okay. Really, it's fine. Dr. Meadows.
Dr. Meadows: The procedure was normal.
Elizabeth: Was it the car accident or did I leave the hospital too soon?
Lucky: Elizabeth, stop.
Elizabeth: I need to know.
Dr. Meadows: There's no way to give you a definitive answer. It could be either of those or both, or another reason entirely. I know this is difficult, but I strongly advise you not to dwell on the whys. It'll just add to your heartache.
Emily: Listen to me, Jax. You swerved your car to avoid hitting a pedestrian. It was an accident. You have to stop blaming yourself for Elizabeth’s miscarriage.
Jax: The only person that's more responsible is the person that jumped out in front of my car. I'm going to find them. And when I do, I'm going to make it my daily mission to make them pay for killing my child.
Emily: There's no point, Jax.
Jax: I'm sorry, no point?
Emily: Whoever it was couldn't have meant any harm.
Jax: Then why didn't they stick around to face the consequences?
Emily: Who knows, maybe they were afraid or they were too out of it to realize that they'd caused any damage. What's done is done. How would punishing this person help or change what's happened?
Jax: It's cold comfort, you're right, but I'll take it.
Emily sighs.
Elizabeth: I don't know what to do next. We can't have a funeral or a memorial service.
Lucky: Why not?
Elizabeth: Because they don't do that for miscarriages.
Lucky: Who's "they"? We can do whatever we want. If you want to have a ceremony of some kind and that makes you feel better, I say let's plan it. But for now, you need to rest.
Emily: Hey. Someone's here to see you.
Elizabeth: Em, I'm not in the mood for visitors.
Nikolas: I'm sorry. What can I do?
Elizabeth: You're here. It's already done.
Elizabeth: I can't believe this has happened again. I prayed this baby would be born. But as much as it hurts right now, I know it'd be so much worse if I didn't have all of you. You guys are everything to me. There was a time when I didn't think the four of us would ever be in the same room together, but here we are. We always come together when it really matters. I love you guys. And I know I can get through anything as long as you're here.
Emily: No one's going anywhere.
Lucky: You can count on that.
Nikolas: Yeah. You all are my family, no matter what.
Elizabeth: Thanks, guys.
Lucky: I'm perfectly capable of carrying the blankets back.
Nikolas: I know. I just thought you might need to vent a little bit.
Lucky: No, now's not the time.
Nikolas: Well, I know, I'm sorry. I know you're feeling the loss, too. You were invested in that baby.
Lucky: I hated the idea -- Elizabeth being pregnant with anybody else's baby but mine. But it started to make sense. You know, it penetrated my thick head that that baby was a part of the woman that I love. That was enough for me to love it. I wanted the chance to be this baby's father. But now she's gone.
Elizabeth: This has been one of the worst nights of my life. I'm just going to try to focus on my blessings. I have Lucky's love, you and Nikolas to support me. And I have a beautiful, healthy baby boy waiting for me at home.
Emily: We're all very fortunate to have each other.
Elizabeth: Yeah. Yeah, we are. What about Jax? Who's going to help him through this?
