Nikolas: You make it sound so logical, Lucky -- you know, choose one or the other, coffee or tea, chocolate or vanilla.
Lucky: I realize it's -- it's complicated when you have feelings for two women. When you decide to be with one, you lose being with the other, but you need to be fair.
Nikolas: Emily and I have a connection that transcends almost everything, and I hope that we always stay friends.
Lucky: So you're choosing Courtney?
Elizabeth: If you love Nikolas, why do you have to set him free?
Courtney: Well, for one thing, he's married to Emily.
Elizabeth: They're in the process of getting a divorce.
Courtney: Yeah, but I was the other woman. Look, I know you probably don't believe me, but I never imagined that I would be in this situation.
Elizabeth: None of us did.
Courtney: It's just -- I don't know, it's just with Nikolas, everything's different.
Elizabeth: Different how?
Courtney: Well, look, Jax and Jason loved me, they did, but Jason always put me second to Sonny and Carly and their children, second to his work. And then Jax came along and I thought that he was everything I wanted in a man, but there was something missing.
Elizabeth: I think Jax realizes that he mishandled things.
Courtney: Well, so did I. My point is with Jax and Jason, I was an attachment, not really part of their lives. With Nikolas -- I don't know, I mean, we got together at such a vulnerable time for both of us. We connected as equals, we respect one another, and it runs deep and it's mutual. It's just when I'm with Nikolas, it just --
Elizabeth: It's right?
Courtney: Yeah. Exactly.
Elizabeth: Yeah, that's how I feel when I'm with Lucky, and he knows it. Have you told Nikolas how you feel?
Lucky: Okay, I'm not judging, but I'm just trying to understand. Why Courtney?
Nikolas: Look, I loved Emily, okay, and maybe that bond will never break. It's just right now it's just all tied up in pain, you know? We have to avoid what happened in the past, avoid what could be in the future, and walk on eggshells in the present, and I just can't live the rest of my life that way. Hey, I'll always love Emily. We just can't be in love right now.
Lucky: I used to feel that way about Elizabeth.
Nikolas: Yeah, but what if another woman had come along, clean slate, a chance to start over?
Lucky: One did, more than one, but it was never right. Being with Elizabeth was the only thing that ever really made sense for me.
Nikolas: Which is another way of saying that you wish I'll always stay with Emily, right?
Lucky: Yeah, well, Emily is my best friend and --
Nikolas: I know.
Lucky: You're my brother. Yeah, probably.
Nikolas: I'm just saying that right now it's all tied up in pain and scars that won't go away. That's all I'm saying.
Lucky: But how well do you really know Courtney?
Nikolas: I don't know, I'm still learning about her. And the truth is I hope I never stop. Right? Hey, she makes me laugh, a lot, and she has from the very beginning. And I don't -- I don't -- I don't know how it happened, but somehow between us, we created -- hope.
Courtney: You know, sometimes you just have the chemistry, a connection with someone that creates something you never had before. You know, something that you stopped believing even existed, and you just want to hold on to that person more than anything.
Elizabeth: Well, then why let Nikolas go?
Courtney: Because, look, I don't know what he wants or how he feels.
Elizabeth: And he hasn't told you?
Courtney: Look, I just know what I see. Nikolas says that his marriage is over, but come on, you've seen him with Emily.
Elizabeth: Well, they will always have a connection.
Courtney: Yeah, and it's a lot stronger than anything that Nikolas and I have. That's why I want to give him enough room to just walk away. Look, Nikolas needs to decide what he wants and so do I. That's why I'm going to go away.
Nikolas: Hey.
Elizabeth: I'm supposed to be meeting Lucky here.
Nikolas: Yeah, he just went out for pretzels. He said he'd be right back, told me to tell you that.
Elizabeth: Oh, then maybe this is fate.
Nikolas: What? Excuse me?
Elizabeth: Well, that you're here.
Nikolas: Why?
Elizabeth: I just came from Courtney’s.
Nikolas: Yeah?
Elizabeth: Nikolas, you know I'm sad that you and Em didn't work things out, but bottom line, I want you both to be happy. Courtney loves you.
Nikolas: She -- why do you say that?
Elizabeth: Because she told me. And if you love her and you want to be with her, you need to go tell her tonight.
Nikolas: Why now? Is she all right?
Elizabeth: She's going out of town. She may already be gone.
Emily: Are you all right?
Sonny: Yeah, I'm all right. Just -- Reese needs help.
Man: What's taking so long? I'm tired of it! Ah! Ah! Ow! Ow!
Sonny: What the hell's wrong?
Emily: He must be on drugs. Oh, God. I need help over here!
Sonny: What's wrong, Emily?
Emily: She's hemorrhaging. I need help now!
Doctor: What do we got?
Emily: Massive bleeding. I'm applying pressure.
Paramedic: Gunshot wound to the chest.
Monica: Okay.
Doctor: She's hemorrhaging. Wound near her thorax.
Monica: All right, let's get her to O.R., stat. Emily, keep pressure on that wound.
Sonny: Cops released you already?
Jason: Never took me to the station. Durant ordered them to kick me loose.
Sonny: Durant wanted Javier to kill me. When that didn't happen, he wanted everything to disappear, no charges, no trial. That way his career wouldn't be jeopardized.
Jason: How you feeling?
Sonny: I've been in worse shape. Emily saved Reese’s life. She was in bad shape. Look, you and your sister saved lives tonight. If it wasn't for you, I'd be dead.
Jason: No, I just can't believe I made it back in time.
Sonny: Why did you? You change your mind about working for me? Was this a one-time thing or are you coming home?
Jason: I don't remember working for you. You know, I only have flashes, a face, or an image, but it's starting to connect.
Sonny: You're my friend; you're my brother. I mean, I don't know what else I --
Jason: Sonny, what you're saying, I can't feel. But something was telling me that I couldn't let you deal with this all alone.
Sonny: Thanks a lot.
Emily: Jason, you came back.
Sonny: How's Reese?
Jason: Sonny said you saved her life.
Emily: No, I yelled for help, that's all. Reese is in the O.R. Dr. Eldrich is her surgeon. He's one of the best. They think Reese is going to be all right.
Sonny: Yeah, thanks to you.
Emily: If the day ever comes -- and I hope it does -- when I work as a doctor -- actually save someone's life, I'll gladly take all the credit I'm due. But tonight was just a fluke. And speaking of doctors -- has one of our fine interns bothered to examine you?
Sonny: No, not yet.
Emily: I'm going to ask you to help me get him over to Trauma Three, and then we'll find someone to treat you.
Sonny: Can you -- can you do it? It's just that, you know, I trust you, and if you drug me for pain and I start talking about my business, then -- no, I mean, I know that you wouldn't, you know, call the cops and --
Emily: I like you, Sonny, but not enough to throw away my medical career before it's even started, so you're just going to have to wait for a real doctor.
Sonny: Ah.
Nikolas: Courtney? You all right?
Courtney's voice: "Dear Nikolas, I'm sorry for being a coward about this, but I need to go away. I need time to think, to figure out how I really feel. I don't regret telling you I'm pregnant, but we both need time to decide what to do next. I know you want to be honorable, but there's a chance that Jax could be the father of this child. Until I find out for sure, I need some distance and some time to decide what is best for me and for my baby. I can't believe I just wrote those words. This baby is a miracle, maybe the best thing that has ever happened to me. So I want to get things right from the start. I'm not sure how long I can stay away from you. Anyway, I don't know how to sign this. 'Love'? 'Your friend'? Maybe I'll figure it out while I'm gone. Courtney."
Courtney: We heard Sonny got shot.
Ric: Yeah, yeah, he's --
Mike: Well, where is he?
Ric: It's all right. He's going to be okay. He's in the E.R., and Reese is just touch and go right now.
Courtney: What happened?
Ric: Well, Javier Ruiz ambushed Sonny at the Metro Court. Sonny fought back. And then Jason showed up and he killed Javier.
Mike: All right. All right, I'm going to see Sonny.
Ric: All right.
Courtney: You know, it's really weird seeing you all upset about this.
Ric: Yeah, well, he's my brother, too. And Reese happens to be my law partner and my friend. I just want to make sure that they're both okay.
Courtney: Well, it's a good thing that Jason showed up.
Ric: Yeah. Seems to be the general consensus. It's very surprising, though.
Courtney: Yeah, well, life has a lot of little surprises.
Ric: Emily.
Emily: Yeah?
Ric: How is he?
Emily: Sonny's fine. Minor bullet wound. He's going to stay here overnight.
Ric: Well, what about Reese?
Emily: She's still in the O.R. The surgeon, Dr. Eldrich, thinks the prognosis is good. I'll keep you posted.
Ric: Thanks. I'm going to go check on Sonny. You coming with me?
Courtney: Yeah. Oh, I'll be right there. Thank you for calling me and my dad about Sonny.
Emily: Yeah, you're his family.
Courtney: You're very gracious.
Emily: There are some times I don't want to be but, you know, what's the point of laying blame or carrying resentment? We were all wrong, and we're all just trying to rebuild our lives.
Emily: Mom.
Monica: Hi.
Emily: How's Reese?
Monica: In recovery. Barring complications or an infection, she should be fine.
Emily: Okay. I'll go tell Sonny.
Monica: Can't you get someone else to do that, Em? I happen to know his brother and sister are here tonight.
Emily: I just got this lecture from dad.
Monica: Oh, well, your father blames Sonny for what happened to A.J. I'm worried about you -- and Jason. Do you know how he is?
Emily: He hasn't remembered anything, but he figured out that he belongs here. I consider that progress.
Monica: I don’t. I don't at all, and if he's decided that he's going to go back to risking his life for Sonny, then at least I have to know that you are safe, Em.
Emily: Michael and Morgan need me, mom.
Monica: You need to be at home. You can go visit those boys every single day if you want to. Right now you need to concentrate on med school.
Emily: The guesthouse is a great place to study.
Monica: Oh, really? Is that where you're really staying is the guesthouse?
Emily: What is that supposed to mean?
Monica: Is there something going on with you and Sonny?
Emily: Like what?
Monica: I don't know. I don't know him. He's between wives and you're in the middle of a divorce.
Emily: I can't believe that you would even think that. Sonny's involved with Reese Marshall. I don't want to get involved with anyone. I'm just trying to help out.
Monica: And I don't want to see you get tangled up in Sonny's life at the expense of your career, Emily.
Emily: Mom, I'm going to be a doctor, okay, just like you and dad. Don't worry.
Monica: Yeah.
Nikolas: Hey. You have a moment?
Emily: Sure.
Nikolas: I want us to keep planning Lucky and Elizabeth’s wedding but just as friends. Courtney and I -- it's a little more than I expected.
Emily: I'm not surprised, you know, now with a baby on the way.
Nikolas: I just -- I didn't want you to hear it from anyone else.
Emily: Do you have any idea how many regulations I'm breaking?
Sonny: Can you move me just a tad closer?
Emily: Okay, five minutes.
Sonny: Thank you. You saved my life tonight. I don't know how to thank you.
Nikolas: Looking for this?
Courtney: Nikolas --
Nikolas: You might be able to stay away from me, but I can't stay away from you.
