Nikolas: Look, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that, okay?
Emily: No, it's okay.
Nikolas: I just never considered that Courtney would get pregnant. I always thought it would be us.
Emily: Courtney could be carrying Jax’s child.
Nikolas: Well, the odds are against it, you know?
Emily: The odds were against Courtney being pregnant at all.
Nikolas: I can't wrap my mind around this, you know? Years ago, I thought Katherine was pregnant, and I was ready to marry her. And that just ended so badly.
Emily: It was another life.
Nikolas: But I just -- even then, it was a sign, you know, not to bring another Cassadine into this world, because the gene pool's obviously tainted.
Emily: Have you mentioned this tainted gene pool theory to Alexis?
Nikolas: No, no, of course not.
Emily: Wise choice. Maybe it's just an excuse, anyway.
Nikolas: For what?
Emily: You obviously don't want to deal with feeding the baby at 3:00 in the morning.
Nikolas: 3:00 in the morning? You don't feed a baby at 3:00 in the morning. You do?
Emily: Nikolas, tell me you're kidding.
Nikolas: Well, don't they just sleep most of the time?
Emily: Yeah, 12 hours a day, three or four hours at a time.
Nikolas: Oh, okay.
Emily: You really had no idea?
Nikolas: Well, no. The servants didn't mention it to me. Nor did my uncle. He was too busy reading -- reading me Greek and Latin mythology. He left out the childcare part. Well, just so you know -- if we were still together, the 3:00 A.M. feeding thing would be on you.
Emily: Nikolas, do us both a favor and, I don't know, don't talk about what might have been.
Nikolas: I'm sorry. I should go.
Emily: No, Nikolas, you don't have to apologize. Listen, I probably know better than anyone how strange it is for you to think about Courtney carrying your baby. And I want to help, or at least to listen. But there's just a lot going on here at the moment.
Nikolas: Well, if you're referring to Sonny's so-called businesses, that's exactly why I don't like the idea of you being here.
Emily: Please, don't, Nikolas. We have separate lives now. We can help each other, but we don't get to comment on each other's choices.
Nikolas: It's a choice of yours to take care of Sonny's kids?
Emily: Loving them is. Trying to help while their mother's in the hospital is absolutely a choice.
Nikolas: Listen, I'm sorry. I'm making you mad, okay?
Emily: Yeah, you're starting to, and since this won't do either one of us any good, why don't we just agree to disagree? You and I can just stick to planning Elizabeth and Lucky's surprise wedding and being friends.
Nikolas: Okay. You always were a good friend.
Emily: Okay, well, then as your friend, try to work things out with Courtney. Because this baby, if it's yours, is going to change everything.
Nikolas: I should've called first. I'm sorry.
Courtney: No. No, no, no. It's --
Jax: You know what? We can finish this another time.
Courtney: Let's go ahead and donate those gifts to Mothers Without Means.
Jax: Okay. I'll get started on the cards.
Courtney: Thanks for stopping by.
Nikolas: He brought champagne, huh?
Courtney: It was just a peace offering.
Nikolas: Did you tell him why you couldn't drink it?
Courtney: Nikolas, I can't tell him until after the paternity test. You know, Jax wants to be a parent so badly, almost as much as I do and I -- oh, I have already hurt so many people in this. I'm glad that you're here.
Nikolas: Yeah. This baby -- you know, it's the last thing that I expected.
Courtney: There's no pressure.
Nikolas: I know.
Courtney: I can raise the baby alone --
Nikolas: Listen, listen, listen, listen. I came here to thank you for telling me the truth, okay? And to make it clear that if the baby is mine, that I promise I'll be the best father that I know how.
Jax: So, I was walking through the park thinking about everything that went wrong with Courtney and how I got fixated on Elizabeth’s baby. Anyway, all this -- all this stuff was going through my mind, and then it hit me. The night of the accident, I -- I caught a glimpse of a woman that ran out in front of the car. And then I realized it was Carly. You're not going to say anything?
Emily: I wasn't there, Jax. I didn't see the accident.
Jax: Well, it makes perfect sense, doesn't it? I mean, Carly was going through that nervous breakdown; Sonny couldn't be bothered to take her to the hospital. Right?
Emily: That's not exactly what was going on.
Jax: Then what was? You know the truth, don't you? Is Carly the reason Elizabeth lost the baby?
Lucky: You all right? Don't tell me you want to be alone.
Nikolas: But I do.
Lucky: Too bad. Tell me what happened. Look, I'm your brother. We can stand here or we could get into another fistfight or you could just tell me what happened.
Nikolas: I went to see Emily. Okay?
Lucky: That's good.
Nikolas: I needed her opinion on a few things.
Lucky: Like what?
Nikolas: Courtney.
Lucky: Oh, you didn’t.
Nikolas: Yeah, I know. Completely selfish and unfair. I know that.
Lucky: You think?
Nikolas: I just -- but Emily was great like she always is. You know, I didn't plan on confiding in her, Lucky. It's just when we're together -- I mean, I've always been able to talk to her. You know, I guess I just took advantage of that.
Lucky: Listen, I know you love Emily whether you admit it or not. And I guess you have feelings for Courtney. But you can't have them both. And you need to decide.
Thunder.
Emily: Does it really matter who ran out in front of your car, Jax? If it was Carly, she didn't know what she was doing.
Jax: Yeah, because Carly was having a nervous breakdown because Sonny refused to take her to the doctor.
Emily: Sonny was trying to help Carly in the way he felt was best.
Jax: Yeah. Sonny was feeding his own ego and destroyed yet another woman who loves him. That's nothing new.
Emily: Whoever ran out in front of you had no idea that a pregnant woman was in the car. No one meant for Elizabeth to lose her baby.
Jax: It was Carly, wasn't it? That's why you're trying so hard not to tell me.
Emily: Anyone could've run out in front of your car, Jax.
Jax: I don't blame Carly. I blame Sonny.
Emily: Why blame anyone? I mean, dwelling on the accident isn't going to bring the baby back. Reliving the hurt keeps you stuck in the past, Jax. Believe me, I know.
Jax: Yeah, I suppose you do. And you're right -- you know what? You're right. There's no point in fighting with Sonny. There's no point in looking back.
Emily: You know, it's natural. Everyone does it. But instead of thinking about what might have been, I don't know -- maybe try to rebuild something good to replace what you lost.
Jax: What if I want back what I lost? And I'm not referring to the baby. I meant Courtney.
Emily: You want to get back together with Courtney?
Jax: We've both made mistakes, but I'm willing to let go of the past, maybe even try again.
Lucky: You are stringing Emily and Courtney along. It isn't fair to anybody. You have to make a choice.
Nikolas: You don't understand, okay?
Lucky: No, Nikolas, it's not that complicated. You and Emily have a chance to get back together if that's what you want, and I hope you do, but if you decide to be with Courtney, you have to decide.
Nikolas: Look, it's not just me, okay? Emily and Courtney get to choose, as well, and Emily already did, remember? She chose to end our marriage.
Lucky: Okay, just trust me on this one. Only a woman in love with you would allow you to dump your problems with Courtney on her lap. Listen, you have a chance to get back with Emily if that's what you want, but decide.
Nikolas: Look, I realize that it's unfair to be with someone out of obligation while your heart may be somewhere else and I'm not saying that that's me. I'm just -- I'm just saying that sometimes it's unavoidable, that's all.
Lucky: Would you just forget about duty and honor for once and be true to yourself? You either want to be with Emily or Courtney. Make a choice.
