Sonny: You need to hang your head in shame because you're a med student.
Emily: But that doesn't mean I have to like icky flying bugs.
Michael: It was a moth!
Sonny: Yeah, but it was like a killer moth --
Michael: With pincers.
Sonny: Like those Africanized, you know, bees, right?
Emily: Right, okay. Am I ever going to hear the end of this?
Michael and Sonny: No.
Sonny and Michael laugh.
Nikolas: Listen, I'm always going to care about Emily, okay? But I want you to know that I care about you, too.
Courtney: You know what? I -- I believe you. And the feeling is mutual. I mean, you mean so much to me, Nikolas. But I've -- I've had a lot of time to think, and I've come to a decision.
Nikolas: Okay.
Courtney: You and I are over.
Nikolas: Over? Where did that come from?
Courtney: Like I said, I've had a lot of time to think.
Nikolas: Think about what? Courtney, what -- what just happened that makes you want to walk away from me now?
Sonny: So here's -- here's the way it went down. We were putting our coats away, right? Very calm, very, you know, orderly, like you would behave in a school, right? This one, Emily --
Emily laughs.
Sonny: Starts yelling at the top of her lungs. Her arms were going like this. If I -- if I didn't know any better, I'd think somebody was attacking her, you know what I mean?
Reese: Well, she was being attacked.
Sonny: What do you mean?
Reese: Kind of. Hey, if a moth went like this in my face, I'd be doing that, too.
Sonny: No, come on.
Reese: Sure. It's a girl thing, right, Michael?
Sonny: Oh.
Michael: I guess.
Sonny: Oh.
Emily: Okay, so, look at the time. Michael, somebody needs to be in bed, huh?
Michael: I take it that's me?
Emily: Yep. Okay, so say your good nights, oh brilliant one.
Sonny: You know what?
Michael: What?
Sonny: I'm really glad it all turned out okay for you.
Michael: I remember what you said. It's not mom's fault if she had a nervous breakdown. Doesn't matter what anyone thinks, as long as I'm with my family.
Sonny: Yeah. And you learned a valuable lesson, right? I'm going to -- there's another lesson you need to know.
Michael: What?
Sonny: Always do what your dad says because he's always right.
Michael: Right.
Sonny: Come over here.
Michael: I'm going to say a prayer for mom.
Sonny: Oh, hey, guess what -- I'm going to do the same thing. All right?
Michael: Okay. Later, Reese.
Reese: Good night, Michael. Wow. It's really great to hear him laugh. And you, too, for that matter. I'm sorry that I interrupted.
Sonny: No, hey, don't even think about it.
Reese: No, I mean, really, I should have waited for you to call before I blundered into another family moment. I seem to be doing a lot of that lately. So I'm going to go.
Sonny: Hey, hey, Reese? I don't want you to leave.
Courtney: It's just -- things are just complicated. You know? I guess -- I guess they've always been. And I'm just starting to realize what you're dealing with, and the situation is --
Nikolas: Listen, Courtney, Courtney, hold on a second. You're not making any sense to me. Will you tell me what's going on in a way that I can understand?
Courtney: Nikolas, I love being with you. I do. I mean, I would like nothing better than to see where this takes us.
Nikolas: Well, then why did you just say what you said, then?
Courtney: Because I can't -- I can't fight your pull to Emily. I can’t. It's too strong. When she got hurt, your first thought was to be at her bedside, and --
Nikolas: Well, so you're upset with me because I wanted to stay with her and make sure that she's all right?
Courtney: No, no, I'm not upset.
Nikolas: You're not?
Courtney: No, not in the way that you think.
Nikolas: Well, did you or did you not just say that you wanted to end things with me?
Courtney: Yes, I did, because -- because you belong with Emily, and I don't want you to stay with me because you feel some sense of duty or obligation.
Nikolas: Why would I feel obligated to you?
Courtney: Okay, maybe -- maybe "obligation" is the wrong word. It's just -- Nikolas, you are -- you are such a great guy with such an amazing sense of honor. And I just feel like -- I don't know -- I think you feel like you made a promise to me that you have to live up to, and --
Nikolas: No. You make it sound like it's -- like it's a chore to be with you, and that's just not true. I'm not here out of any sense of honor or duty, or whatever it is you said. I'm here because it feels good to be with you. Remember how we used to joke about -- about how we kept getting thrown together? Remember? And, well, I don't believe in accidents. I think people -- I think people make things happen. You know, listen, I felt something -- something special for you, and I wanted more. And I want more. It's not because of any obligation.
Courtney: I appreciate you saying that. But I know what I saw. You know, no matter -- no matter how you feel about me, Emily is still in your heart.
Reese: You know, it's late. You should probably tuck Michael in.
Sonny: Will you wait for me?
Reese: You know what? I'm going to go home. I'll see you tomorrow, though, if you want.
Sonny: Yeah, yeah, I want.
Reese: Okay.
Sonny: All right.
Reese: Good night, Emily.
Emily: Good night.
Sonny: Is Michael settled?
Emily: Oh, yeah, more than that. He went out like a light.
Sonny: Yeah?
Emily: Poor kid's probably more exhausted than he knew.
Sonny: You know, everything you've done for him -- it means the world to him. It --
Emily: Thank you.
Sonny: And, you know, Michael needs a woman influence in his life, somebody who he doesn't see as a threat.
Emily: Unlike Reese, huh? This must be hard on her. She loves you both.
Sonny: Well, I mean, she's, you know, understanding and accepting. She puts Michael’s needs above her own, even though sometimes he doesn't treat her very nice. And she's -- you know, she even tried to help Carly out. I know that cost her. When Carly slept with Reese’s father, it kind of destroyed Reese’s world. And to get past that kind of traumatic thing is -- I don't have to tell you because I know you've --
Emily: Yeah. No, it's not easy. But amazingly enough, it happens, sometimes when you're not even looking. One day I was completely defined by my rape. I was haunted by it. And then one day I woke up and I realized that it wasn't controlling my life anymore, that something even more powerful had taken precedence. And unfortunately, I woke up too late. I had to lose the man I love to get over being raped. I'm not sure the tradeoff was worth it.
Nikolas: I have no problem admitting to you that I still have a connection to Emily and that I always will, and I have no problem telling you why. When Emily and I first met, she was just a gawky teenager who -- who had a crush on me, ok? And then she went away, and then she came back, and she wasn't a teenager and she wasn't so gawky anymore. And for the both of us, it was like being struck by lightning, and we just -- we never looked back. And we've persevered through so much since then. Emily almost died from cancer. We got through that. And the hotel fire -- we got through that. I disappeared for months from a car accident, and then with that, Connor, and almost got through that. The point is, is that you can't have that kind of history with someone and not have a lasting connection with them. Don't -- don't apologize for having something that most people only dream of. I think it's wonderful.
Courtney: Look, what you -- what you share with Emily is rare by your own admission. I don't know how you could turn your back on that.
Nikolas: Courtney, I didn't just, you know, decide to walk away from her. Things happened that took on a momentum of their own, regardless of what Emily and I wanted. So, yeah, we still share a connection. So what? The marriage is over. You know, we can't get back the life that we shared and we're both moving on. And I don't know where things are going between you and me. I don't know. But I'd sure like to find out because I think we could end up in a pretty good place.
Courtney: I don't --
Nikolas: What?
Courtney: I need some -- I just need some time.
Nikolas: Okay. A little? A lot? You take whatever you need. Bye.
Courtney: Hey. Can I come over? I -- I really need to see you.
Music plays.
Lucky: I want you to admit it. You chickened out.
Elizabeth: I did not. I was down to my bra and underwear.
Lucky: You weren't about to go any further. You never intended to skinny-dip, and then you claimed that somebody was coming.
Elizabeth: No, no, no, you said somebody was coming.
Lucky: I wasn't backing out because I wanted to see you in your birthday suit.
Elizabeth: Oh. Be careful what you wish for.
Lucky: Every time is like the first.
Elizabeth: Man, you are on fire tonight.
Lucky: Oh, you haven't seen anything yet. Come on, come on.
Elizabeth: Oh, my gosh. Hey, that's Em. Hi, Miss.
Emily: Hi. This looks strangely familiar.
Elizabeth: I know. All that's missing is you and Nikolas. Well, one of out two isn't bad.
Emily: No, you and Lucky are having alone time. I don't want to intrude.
Elizabeth: Oh, no, Emily. Please, come in and eat with us.
Lucky: Yeah, you're right on time, Em. You need to help me settle this dispute that we've been having about the time we went skinny-dipping --
Emily: Ooh.
Lucky: Out at the lake.
Emily: Are those Eli’s?
Elizabeth: Would there be anything else?
Emily: Oh, I haven't had ribs in so long.
Lucky: Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You can't have any until you back me up. Who chickened out first?
Emily: Oh, I think as I recall, it was you.
Lucky: You -- oh, you're a traitor.
Elizabeth: Oh, you have such a good memory. Now, give the girl her ribs. Here.
Emily: Thanks. Oh.
Elizabeth: Mm-hmm.
Emily: This looks so good.
Lucky: Mmm.
Nikolas: Oh. Looks like old times.
Sonny: I'm surprised I got a call from you.
Courtney: Yeah, I'm sorry that I haven't come by sooner. It's just there's been a lot going on. How's Carly?
Sonny: Uh, well, nothing new. They won't let me visit her, so --
Courtney: And the kids?
Sonny: Well, Michael’s struggling, Morgan is too young to understand.
Courtney: What about you?
Sonny: Well, you know, I got some support. I got Reese and especially Emily. She's amazing with the kids.
Courtney: Look, Sonny, I -- I'm really sorry that I haven't been around more. I'd like to make up for that. I really miss my nephews, you know? Okay, look, I'd like to take over responsibility of looking after the kids.
Sonny: Well, I got Emily. She's living here and she's, you know --
Courtney: Yeah, I know. I'm aware of that. I just think that maybe it's time that Emily got back to her own life.
Sonny: What is this -- what is this really about, Courtney?
Courtney: I think Emily is hiding from Nikolas and she's using you and the kids to do it.
Sonny: And you think it's your job to send her back to him? What I don't get is, why would you work against your own interests?
Nikolas: One of these. So this is it? It's definite, huh?
Lucky: It's written in stone.
Elizabeth: Friday, October 28. You better be there.
Emily: Nothing could make me miss your wedding day.
Nikolas: Anything we can do to help?
Elizabeth: No, just show up. The wedding's going to be sweet and simple.
Nikolas: All right.
Lucky: You know, Elizabeth wants to have the ceremony at Audrey’s.
Elizabeth: Yeah, with a small reception afterwards.
Nikolas: Well, then a honeymoon, I hope.
Elizabeth: Oh, definitely.
Lucky: You know what? This calls for a toast.
Elizabeth: Thank you.
Lucky: To my bride-to-be, and to spending the rest of my life trying to make you as happy as you make me.
Nikolas: Hear, hear.
Courtney: Emily loves Nikolas, and Nikolas -- well, he loves Emily, too, and I just -- I don't want to be the thing that keeps them apart. Look, most of all, Sonny, I don't want Nikolas to stay with me because he feels obligated.
Sonny: Well, I don't know why he'd be obligated to you when he wasn't to his own wife. I mean, Emily was raped and he -- he didn't care enough to stick around. I mean -- because, you know, it's not my business anyway, but I'll say this -- I'm not going to ask Emily to leave if that's what you're getting at, because my kids need her.
Courtney: Sonny, I am just as capable of taking care of Michael and Morgan as Emily is.
Sonny: My kids have been through hell, and I'm not about to take another person they love away from them at this moment. Now, hey, I don't really expect you to understand because you don't have kids of your own, so --
Courtney: Yeah, not yet.
Sonny: What do you mean, "not yet"? What, are you going to adopt kids? You're pregnant?
