Emily wants into the Haunted Star, Luke is having issues this morning functioning after a hard night of drinking.
Luke: Water goes in there. But where does this go? Let's see. This -- oh! You are bucking for a trip to the garbage heap! Oh, hell. Oh, damn! Oh, God. What the hell is the -- oh, just --
Emily: Ahem. Luke?
Luke: Uh, we're closed.
Emily: Need some help with that?
Luke: Yeah. Is Lucky okay?
Emily: As far as I know.
Luke: What are you doing here?
Emily: Listen, Luke, it was wrong of Nikolas to go after you like that.
Luke: It's okay. Forget it. You know, Emily, it's kind of early.
Emily: I really need to ask you something.
Luke: Well, maybe it could wait till later, because it's very early and --
Emily: How did Laura forgive you for raping her?
Emily: I'm sorry to impose like this, Luke, but there's no one else I can ask. Every time my husband touches me, I lose it.
Luke: I don't think I can help you.
Emily: It's like the night I saw you with Skye. Luke, I lose it, okay, and the whole thing happens all over again, and I'm back in that basement.
Luke: Emily, what is it you think I can do for you?
Emily: I had so many chances to leave that house, but I didn't. I chose to stay with Connor, like Laura chose to stay close to you the night it happened.
Luke: You know nothing about that night.
Emily: Listen, Luke, it's coming out all wrong, okay? I'm sorry. It's just -- it's just that Lucky told me something about you and Laura and a disco. And you told her to leave, but she wouldn't. And you were dancing, and -- and it happened. How did you convince Laura to forgive you? To love you? It isn't the same, Luke, I know. Nikolas didn't rape me. But every time I look at him, I see Connor, and I can't let him touch me. But I love Nikolas and I don't want to lose him. And I keep thinking about you and Laura. How did you get past it? How did you start out so terrible and end up with a love that most people can't even imagine?
Luke: Emily, you asked me to help you get Nikolas out of prison. I did what I could. Now, if it cost you more than you expected, things usually do.
Emily: Okay. I didn't mean to upset you.
Luke: Well, then you shouldn't have brought it up.
Emily: I'm so sorry.
Luke: You could make it up to me. Leave.
Emily leaves and Luke sits there staring out into space.
Lucky is sitting on the docks bench when Emily comes down the stairs. Lucky gets up as he sees Emily, they stand slightly apart in front of the stairs and talk.
Lucky: Emily. How you doing? You okay?
Emily: Yeah, just tell me I'm a fool, okay? A total, blithering idiot.
Lucky: Okay, what happened?
Emily: You know last night when I said I was going to deal with the rape, that I was going to find a way to get through it? Well, I tried. I went straight to the expert.
Lucky: Oh, you spoke to Elizabeth?
Emily: No, I spoke with your father.
Lucky: Oh.
Emily: Yeah. You can imagine how that went. Luke threw me out, and I don't blame him. I actually asked him how he and Laura got past the rape. Can you imagine, Lucky?
Lucky: That probably didn't go over too well.
Emily: No, I know. It's none of my business. You know, I had no right to ask. I mean, how could I possibly go to Luke, of all people? I mean, that's how afraid I am.
Lucky: Actually, you seem better.
Emily: Maybe because I'm realizing that I have to deal with Nikolas face-to-face. You know, it's the only way I'm going to be able to heal.
As Emily talks, Nikolas appears at the top of the stairs. Lucky and Emily both look at him, Nikolas descends a step. Lucky looks back at Emily and says his final words leaving Emily and Nikolas alone.
Lucky: Here's your chance.
Emily: Lucky, wait.
Nikolas descends the rest of the stairs and he and Emily start to talk.
Nikolas: You okay?
Emily: I will be. Okay. Damn it, I'm not -- I'm not going to cry again.
Nikolas: It's okay, I don't -- I don't mind.
Emily: I do. Nikolas, tears don't solve anything.
Nikolas: What would?
Emily: I wish I knew. I should be happy. I should be delirious with joy because you're free. We have another chance. And you said that you were going to wait for me, no matter how long it takes.
Nikolas: And I will.
Emily: Why aren't you mad at me, Nikolas, after how unfair I've been? I tried to divorce you. I couldn't even find the courage to meet you when you got out of prison.
Nikolas: Emily, Emily --
Emily: I wouldn't even come and see you.
Nikolas: Listen to me. You were -- you were raped by a man who looks like me. Okay? You had your reasons for not wanting to tell me, and I can't even say that you were wrong. I mean, God, if I would have known what happened to you while I was trapped in that prison with no way to help you, I don't know what I would have done. Okay? I understand. I understand that you were just trying to protect me. And -- and maybe you were right. Now, all I know is that we're together now, and I want to help you.
Emily: I know what I have to do. I'm going to go back to that basement now, on my own terms. Not Helena's, not Connor's. I'm going to confront what happened to me in that room, and I'm going to get on with my life. Will you come with me?
It's dark and Nikolas and Emily are going down into the basement of the cabin where Emily was raped. As they go down the stairs and reach the center of the room.
Nikolas: I'll -- I'll go first, okay?
Emily: Okay.
Nikolas: Want me to turn the light on?
Emily: Yeah.
Nikolas reaches up to turn on the light. The light bathes Nikolas, shining on him and Emily has a momentary flashback to Connor.
Nikolas: Emily?
Emily: No, I'm -- I'm okay. Okay, I have to face this in my own way, on my own terms.
Nikolas: We can face it together, you know.
Emily: Yeah.
Emily: Helena thought that she could hurt me by bringing me back here.
Nikolas: But you won, Emily. Helena's in jail now, thanks to you.
Emily: If I can beat Helena, then I can beat --
Nikolas: Tell me again what happened.
Emily: I -- I ran down the stairs. Connor was after me, and I locked the door and picked up those shears. He was pounding on the door. He begged me to open it. And then I thought he was gone, but he wasn't. I hit him. He hit me back, hard. And I fell onto this floor, under that light. I couldn't get away. He wouldn't let me go. He wouldn't stop.
As Emily talks, she flashes back to the events of the rape.
Nikolas: Emily, you're okay now. Connor's gone.
Emily: Nikolas, I look at you and I see Connor, and I'm right back here in this basement on this floor.
Nikolas: May I take your hand?
Emily: Yeah.
Nikolas grasps Emily's hand and brings it to his face and lips as he talks to her.
Nikolas: Emily, please. Please. See? It's me. It's your husband.
Emily: My -- my heart knows that. Nikolas, my mind can tell the difference, but my body can't. And I'm still trapped here with Connor. I'm never going to get out of this basement.
Nikolas: Yes, you will. Listen to me. Yes, you will. I'll get you out of here.
In the basement of the cabin, Nikolas lights a match and sets a pile of garbage on fire. Emily comes to stand beside him as it burns. They do not talk. Nikolas lights another match and a second pile begins to burn. The scene fades out on a close up of Emily's face as she stands beside Nikolas and watches the piles burn.
