Emily: I'm still not feeling anything with Nikolas and I'm afraid that he's starting to suspect, and I really need to turn things around.
Sam: What do you mean?
Emily: I have to find a way to get back to what we had before, you know? To love him the way he needs. I want to make him happy.
Sam: Nikolas loves you. I am sure, I'm sure that you make him happy.
Emily: I know, Sam, but I can feel him being careful, you know, I guess just watching me instead of simply being with me.
Sam: Well, you know, maybe he wants to be considerate.
Emily: Well, see, Nikolas has always been considerate; he's always been tender. But more and more I feel like he's taking care of me, you know, instead of simply loving me.
Sam: No offense, but isn't that exactly what you're doing to him?
Courtney: I didn't know anybody was up here. Sorry.
Nikolas: No, it's -- it's okay. I mean, I would've made, you know, a discreet little exit, but there's really nowhere for me to go.
Courtney: Yeah. I was just feeling sorry for myself. Momentary lapse. I'm going to go. What is -- damn it!
Nikolas: It's okay, I'll call maintenance.
Courtney: Thanks. I'm sorry. I'm flipping out a little bit. I'm just -- I don't really know what's wrong with me. I'm just --
Nikolas: Is it Elizabeth?
Courtney: Yeah. I should -- I should feel grateful, right? I mean, happy and relieved. Jax and I -- we can have a family. I just hate that -- that Elizabeth is getting pregnant with the baby I can't have.
Nikolas: Maintenance is on the way.
Courtney: I apologize for the meltdown.
Nikolas: No, no, it's okay.
Courtney: Look, I -- I know that you and Elizabeth are close --
Nikolas: Mm-hmm.
Courtney: And I think that she's great, I do. And I should be glad that she's willing to carry a child for me and that Jax and I don't have to deal with a stranger or the adoption agency.
Nikolas: That's true, but it still has to be difficult for you.
Courtney: If I can't get through the first procedure, how am I going to get through the next nine months? You know, I mean, there's going to be doctor's appointments, ultrasounds, fetal heartbeats, the baby moving around. It just should be my baby. I have nothing against Elizabeth. It's just the way I feel, you know?
Nikolas: Does Elizabeth know how you feel?
Courtney: No, no, and neither does Jax. I just -- I mean, I thought I could handle this. I did.
Nikolas: Mm-hmm.
Courtney: I just didn't expect to feel so -- well, inadequate. You know, I couldn't even use my own egg and -- oh. Too much information, right? Sorry.
Nikolas: No, it's okay. Really, it's okay.
Courtney: You know, I got pregnant once and I didn't respect it. You know, I pushed myself too hard and I -- I made bad choices, and now because of things I did in the past, I am -- I'm letting down the one person I love most in the world.
Nikolas: There's a lot of that going around these days.
Sam: So how was it with you and Nikolas before the rape?
Emily: You know, I've had a raging crush on Nikolas since I was a teenager, so making love to him was better than I could've ever imagined, Sam. It was wonderful. It was almost magical.
Sam: And now it's not?
Emily: I still love being with him but I'm, like, numb inside.
Sam: And Nikolas suspects you're faking?
Emily: I think so.
Sam: Have you discussed this with him at all?
Emily: You know, I'm just sort of sick of talking. You know, we both are, and I just have to let go and feel. You know, all I have to do is keep trying, and I'm sure it's going to happen eventually.
Sam: But why don't you tell him how you're feeling?
Emily: You know, Nikolas loves me so much, and he'll try to make everything perfect. He'll watch everything I do, every reaction, and then I'll try to be perfect because I love him and -- I don't know, I just feel like we're going to be putting more pressure on each other.
Sam: But if you can find a way to work things out, maybe that's, you know, what's going to be best for you.
Emily: Yeah, you know, we just need some more time, that's all. We're going to get back to the way we were. We have to.
Phone rings.
Sam: Excuse me. Hello?
Michael: Is Jason there?
Sam: Sweetie, what's wrong?
Michael: Dad is going to be so mad.
Sam: Michael? Where's Leticia?
Michael: Upstairs.
Sam: What happened? Oh.
Michael: Yeah, I -- I broke the picture.
Sam: Ouch.
Michael: Dad really likes this one.
Sam: Hey, hey, hey, he'll understand.
Michael: I don't even know why I did it.
Sam: You know what, Michael? It is just a picture. Your father is going to be happy you're okay.
Michael: But I'm not okay. I'm bad.
Courtney: You know, I didn't even ask you what you're doing up here.
Nikolas: Oh --
Courtney: Do I want to know?
Nikolas: Well, I just got out of prison. So I got that. My life is, you know, somewhat back on track. But "happily ever after" isn't exactly what I thought it would be.
Courtney: Hmm. Come on, I mean, look how much you and Emily have already survived. You two are obviously meant to be together.
Nikolas: I just -- you know, I don't understand why people need to believe that love will conquer all, you know.
Courtney: Yeah. Yeah. Well, sometimes it doesn’t. You know, sometimes even with good intentions, you just -- you end up failing each other.
Nikolas: Mm-hmm. And sometimes terrible things just happen.
Courtney: Yeah. But you know, you just -- you got to keep going. You have to concentrate on what you have instead of what you don’t.
Nikolas: Easier said than done.
Courtney: Yeah. You know what? Jax loves me, Emily loves you. I mean, we are pretty lucky. We should be glad.
Nikolas: I know. I just -- I just wish that I could reach Emily somehow, you know, get back to where we were before.
Courtney: Yeah, you will.
Nikolas: You're right. You're right. Thank you for listening to me ramble.
Courtney: Oh, I think, I -- I think I rambled first.
Nikolas: Yeah, I think you kind of did.
Courtney: Yeah.
Key turns in lock.
Courtney: Oh --
Nikolas: Here we go.
Man: Sorry about that, folks.
Nikolas: Oh, thank you. Thank you for getting up here so quickly.
Courtney: Well, I guess we're free.
Man: This door shouldn't have jammed. This is dangerous.
Nikolas: I guess we are free.
Courtney: Anyway, good luck.
Nikolas: Yeah, you, too.
Courtney: Thanks.
Nikolas: Bye.
Man: Don't worry, this will never happen again.
Nikolas: Hi.
Emily: Hi. Thanks for getting here so quickly.
Nikolas: How was it at the hospital?
Emily: Well, it turns out that they didn't need me after all, but it's just as well because it gave me a chance to think. I'm ready to make some changes in my life.
Nikolas: What kind of changes?
Emily: They involve us.
Emily: For a while it was fun to be here at the hotel with you but, Nikolas, I'm ready to take the next step. I want to move back to Wyndemere.
Nikolas: Really? You know, there's no rush.
Emily: No, no, I know, Nikolas. That's why it's perfect. You've been so sensitive and patient, and you let me get to this decision on my own.
Nikolas: Are you sure that it's not too soon?
Emily: I'm ready to go home.
Emily: I miss Wyndemere, especially in the summer. Nikolas, the gardens are so beautiful and there's always such a nice breeze off the lake.
Nikolas: A lot of very bad things have also happened in Wyndemere.
Emily: Yeah, but a lot of great things have happened there, too. Wyndemere is our home, Nikolas. We belong there together. I want to live under the same roof again. I want to wake up in the same bed.
Nikolas: I want that, too. I really do.
Emily: But in the meantime, your room here is all paid for. So why don't we order up some room service, and we can celebrate starting over.
Nikolas: And celebrate putting the past behind us?
