Nikolas: I'm going to go home now.
Courtney: Okay.
Nikolas: Wait, wait, wait! Emily, wait, wait. Come on --
Emily: Look, I should have never come down here.
Nikolas: Whatever you're thinking, Emily -- nothing happened.
Emily: You're here, Nikolas! So is Courtney -- even though you said you were going to New York on business.
Nikolas: I know, I know. I lied, but I couldn't just tell you, Emily, that I needed to get away from you.
Emily: Right, to meet Courtney?
Nikolas: No! No! This is a coincidence! Jax is supposed to be here with her! He got delayed. He'll be here.
Emily: What, am I supposed to believe that?
Nikolas: Yeah -- will you just listen to me for one second, okay? Courtney and I are not having an affair. We didn't sleep together, okay? We just -- we keep running into each other everywhere -- here, Port Charles, the roof -- what? -- The roof of the hospital -- what?
Emily: What about you and Courtney kissing on the Elm Street Pier? Huh? Was that an accident, too?
Jax and Courtney had a conversation previous to these scenes.
Courtney: I think I know why Elizabeth was upset.
Jax: I think it had something to do with Emily. She came to visit Elizabeth at our apartment, and they both seemed a little tense.
Courtney: It's -- it's because of Nikolas -- kind of.
Jax: How do you know that?
Courtney: Nikolas is here, Jax. He's in the room right across the hall.
Jax: Really?
Courtney: Yeah. Look, Emily showed up a little bit ago, and -- and she might have misinterpreted something.
Jax: Do you want to be a little more specific?
Courtney: Well, Emily thinks that he -- she thinks that Nikolas and I are having an affair.
Jax: Are you?
Emily: Elizabeth saw you and Courtney kissing. She tried to keep it to herself, but she told my mother, of all people, and my mother told me.
Nikolas: I'm sorry.
Emily: And that's supposed to make me feel better? Nikolas, what does that mean, you're sorry? Yeah, I should have figured this out a long time ago. I just -- I didn't want to know. When did it start, Nikolas? That night on the hospital roof in the rain?
Nikolas: Nothing "started," Emily.
Emily: All right, well, then why would you and Courtney lie about being on the roof together? Why did you lie about being here?
Nikolas: Because I didn't think you'd understand.
Emily: You got that right.
Nikolas: Come here. Just give --
Emily hauls off and slaps Nikolas across his left cheek.
Emily: Okay. This is the wrong way to deal with this.
Nikolas: Then let's find a better way.
Emily: I want a divorce.
Courtney: Well, I'll admit that Nikolas and I are attracted to each other, but --
Jax: Well. What -- when did that start?
Courtney: The night Elizabeth was inseminated. Jax, I -- I didn't expect to feel so empty, you know, so deficient and so I went up on to the hospital roof to get some air and Nikolas was there. I tried to leave, but the door got stuck and I don't know. I ended up blurting out my true feelings and -- and he listened. That's it -- he just listened. Look, it just felt so good to confide in him, and once elizabeth got pregnant, all your energy went towards her and I could kind of understand it. I mean, I know how badly you want a child. It's just --
Jax: I thought we wanted a child.
Courtney: I do -- we do. I -- I do. It's just seeing Elizabeth give you one when I can't is really difficult.
Jax: You aren't deficient.
Courtney: Yeah, but, Jax, you aren't a woman. You don't -- you don't know what it feels like to want to carry a child. I mean, God, the only reason I can't is because of the bad choices that I made.
Jax: That is -- that's not entirely true.
Courtney: Jax, come on. Because of one stupid decision, I don't know -- I changed everything. You know, I'll never know what it feels like to have a life growing inside of me or -- or to have a little person that's part of me. I -- oh, god. I don't know how to put it into words. I just don't know.
Jax: But Nikolas -- he understands. Right?
Courtney: He just -- he feels alone sometimes, too.
Jax: I see.
Courtney: But I can -- I can talk to Nikolas without worrying about hurting his feelings. I mean, we can work things out without hurting the people that we love and it just --
Jax: Well, that's debatable.
Courtney: What do you want me to say, Jax?
Jax: Well, for a start, you can explain how he ended up across the hall from you.
Courtney: It was a coincidence.
Jax: Oh, really?
Courtney: I --
Jax: Really? Was it like the coincidence like the time on the rooftop at the hospital when you got caught in the rainstorm? Because you made a point of confessing that you were with Nikolas, but you never told me that you were meeting him there.
Courtney: Okay, fine, fine. We met that one time, but all the rest were accidents, Jax. They were. If we were sneaking around, don't you think we'd be better at it?
Jax: You know what? I don't know. I really -- I don't know anymore.
Courtney: Jax, I'm not lying. We just keep running into each other -- I mean, at first, at Alcazar's stables the night of the storm and then on the flight. I mean, Jax, you were supposed to be sitting right next to me.
Jax: Wow, so -- so you knew that Nikolas was down here when I called?
Courtney: Yeah.
Jax: You chose not to tell me. Why is that?
Courtney: Because I didn't want to have this fight when there was no reason for it. Look, I swear, Jax -- hey. I love you. You got -- please, just believe me.
Jax: Well, you've made your intentions clear. But what about Nikolas? What does he want out of all this? Or should I go ask him myself?
Nikolas: Wait -- no. No, no.
Emily: Will you get out of the way, Nikolas?
Nikolas: You're not going to run away from this one, Emily!
Emily: Why are you pretending you want to be here with me, Nikolas? You came here to be with Courtney, so be with her!
Nikolas: I love you. Please, we could you just --
Emily: You have a really strange way of showing it.
Nikolas: Don't use this to push me away again, Emily.
Emily: I catch you in a room with Courtney wearing nothing but robes and I'm trying to push you away?
Nikolas: What you think you saw here tonight, you didn't.
Emily: Okay -- Nikolas, please get away from the door. It's making me feel trapped. I want to leave now.
Nikolas: Look, I know you're hurt, okay? But if you'd just -- if you'd please, if you'd just let me explain. Please --
Courtney: Please don't.
Nikolas: Just wait.
Jax: Emily.
Jax: Wow, this is -- this is very uncomfortable, but, hey, I believe we can all talk about this, right?
Emily: There is nothing to talk about. My marriage is over.
Jax: What did Nikolas tell you?
Emily: It doesn't matter.
Jax: Emily, wait.
Nikolas: No, don't touch her.
Emily: Look, I just -- I just want to get out of here, okay?
Jax: Nikolas admitted to having an affair with my wife, didn't he?
Nikolas: Oh, my --
Emily: He's standing right there. Why don't you ask him?
Jax: No, I need to know what Nikolas told you.
Nikolas: Jax, just leave her alone, will you?
Courtney: Hey!
Nikolas: We don't have to do this, buddy. We don't have to do this.
Jax: Okay, fine.
Jax beats Nikolas up, he punches him in the mouth and kicks him while he's on ground. Emily is upset and runs away..
Nikolas: God!
Courtney: Jax, stop! Come on, what are you doing? Just leave him alone. Please.
Jax: You need to answer a few questions, my friend.
Courtney: Just back off!
Nikolas: We're not sleeping together.
Jax: Well, Emily seems to think otherwise.
Nikolas: Yeah? Well, she's too hurt to listen to anybody right now.
Jax: Well, do you blame her? You just gave her a good reason to leave you.
Courtney: What do you want us to say, Jax?
Jax: I don't know, the truth if that's at all possible.
Nikolas: We felt the people we love slipping away. We ended up spending a lot of time together and we kissed. It won't happen again.
Jax: You kissed him?
Courtney: Yes.
Jax: Wow. What else haven't you told me?
Courtney: Nothing.
Jax: Why are you defending him?
Courtney: Jax, you're -- you're pounding on him. He's not even fighting back. Doesn't that tell you anything?
Jax: Yeah. It tells me I'm too late. Do whatever you want. You will anyway.
Jax: I can't believe they put us next to each other. You know, I could -- I could move if you'd like.
Emily: No, it's okay.
Jax: I'm sorry.
Emily: Why?
Jax: Because you don't deserve any of this.
Emily: Hmm. Or maybe I did. You know, Nikolas tried to reconnect after he got out of prison, and I'm the one who changed.
Jax: Yeah, Courtney changed, too, right when the surrogacy started. I mean, she was really positive before. You know, I thought she wanted a child as much as I do. If I would have known she felt so inadequate, maybe I would have handled things differently.
Emily: I kept putting so much distance between me and Nikolas. You know, I convinced myself that we just needed some more time. I shouldn't be surprised by any of this.
Jax: We kind of made the bed for them, didn't we?
Courtney: Maybe you should -- maybe you should try and find Emily.
Nikolas: Why, so she can call me a liar again?
Courtney: This is all my fault.
Nikolas: No, Courtney, you weren't here alone.
Courtney: Yeah, but, Nikolas, I shouldn't have been here at all, okay? I wouldn't be if it weren't for my stupid insecurities about the surrogacy.
Nikolas: Stop.
Courtney: What?
Nikolas: Stop. We didn't sleep together, okay?
Courtney: Does it even -- does it matter, really?
Nikolas: Well, I don't know. We've already been tried and convicted. Our marriages are rubble on the ground. Why should we care what happens next?
