Nikolas: Maybe we should just forget all this and elope.
Emily: No, not a chance.
Nikolas: Hmm.
Knock on door.
Mac: Ahem.
Nikolas: Oh. Is there a problem?
Mac: I'm doing a little follow up on the Mary Bishop homicide.
Nikolas: We've already given our statements.
Mac: Unfortunately, Emily's statement is full of holes. I need to hear what happened that night directly from her.
Nikolas: She already told D.A. Lansing what happened. And everyone else's statement backs her up, including that of Lucky Spencer, an officer in your department.
Emily: Why are you asking? Have you found some new evidence?
Mac: Why did you initially refuse to answer questions about Mary Bishop's death?
Emily: Jason didn't want me to.
Mac: What was his reason?
Nikolas: He's paranoid, that's why. I'm sorry, Emily, I know you love him, but let's be honest here. Jason's an alleged criminal, been arrested dozens of times, doesn't answer any questions. Am I right?
Mac: "I don't want to answer anything without my lawyer" is about it.
Nikolas: Look, Emily is Jason's little sister and he adores her, but I don't agree with his methods of protecting her. He told her -- he told her to follow his example, to stay silent, even though she had done nothing wrong.
Mac: I'd like to hear from Emily.
Emily: It happened exactly the way -- the way Nikolas said. Jason came into the room, he asked me not to answer. And he's my brother, I respect him, so that's what I did.
Mac: But after you gave a statement to Ric Lansing?
Nikolas: I convinced Emily to cooperate.
Mac: With some help from Lucky and Elizabeth, right?
Emily: They encouraged me to make a statement, yes.
Mac: After the four of you came up with a cover story?
Nikolas: No. No, Mac, that's not -- no.
Mac: Whoever killed Mary Bishop had medical knowledge to alter the meds. Elizabeth is a nurse, and you are premed.
Nikolas: So -- so what? There's -- there's tons of nurses and doctors in the hospital.
Mac: None of whom had motive.
Nikolas: Well, they could have been paid to change the meds. Why jump to the conclusion that it was Emily?
Mac: I'm not jumping to anything, Nikolas. I'm trying to find another suspect -- someone capable of killing Mary and covering their tracks.
Helena laughs.
Tracy: I'm partial to white flowers.
Helena: Oh, white lilies would be my pick.
Tracy: Always an elegant choice.
Helena: Yes, and classic in keeping with the tone we're trying to set.
Nikolas: I must be hallucinating here.
Emily: What are you up to now?
Helena: Oh, my darlings, in honor of your betrothal, Tracy and I have decided to end the hostilities between our families and join together in helping you plan the perfect wedding.
Ric: You know, Sonny's going to wind up dead or in prison someday. I mean, you'd only last inevitably and it's because it's the law of averages. He deserves what he gets, but I just -- I can't help but thinking that it's -- what it's going to do to his kids.
Alexis: If Sonny's ever brought to justice, then the kids will have to be protected.
Ric: I know that. There's nothing more precious than a child.
Alexis: Being a parent changes your perspective on pretty much every level.
Ric: Hmm. You know, I haven't led the most exemplary life, but I'd like to think that if the child that Elizabeth and I almost had had survived, then, I don't know, maybe I would have been a good father.
Alexis: I'm sure that you would have.
Ric: Yeah, who knows? Maybe I'll get that chance sometime.
Knock on door.
Felicia: Excuse me. I'm sorry. I'm looking for Mac. Have you see him?
Ric: He's not here. Can I help you?
Felicia: It's business. It's a case he asked me to look into.
Ric: Well, I am the district attorney, so any information will eventually come to me. So, is there something I can do?
Felicia: I've found a nurse at general hospital who knows something about the murder of Mary Bishop. She's just outside.
Ric: Look, in light of the fact that you are representing Nikolas, maybe you should sit this one out.
Alexis: Well, if it's pertinent to the case, then I should probably --
Ric: Well, I'll let you know as soon as I do, okay?
Felicia: Donna Harris, this is D.A. Lansing.
Ric: How do you do?
Donna: Hi.
Ric: I understand that you might know something about the night Mary Bishop died?
Donna: Well, it's not what I know. It's what I saw.
Helena: Nikolas was defending himself against a madwoman. Now, I certainly hope that the port charles police department has the good sense to have dropped the charges.
Phone rings.
Mac: Commissioner Scorpio. Yeah. Excuse me. What do you got?
Nikolas: What's going on?
Helena: A wedding, I hope.
Nikolas: Oh. Right. Last time I saw you, you were opposed to Emily and our wedding.
Emily: And you were against anyone being happy, period.
Tracy: Helena and I have had a change of heart.
Helena: Yes.
Nikolas: Really? Oh, really? So when did you experience this joint epiphany?
Helena: Oh, we struck up a conversation and realized how much we have in common.
Tracy: We're both from powerful, wealthy families.
Helena: With a great deal of influence in the community.
Tracy: And we realized the two of you must really be in love to have surmounted all of the obstacles in front of you.
Helena: So we thought, why not let bygones be bygones?
Emily: Did we just slip into a parallel universe?
Nikolas: I think so.
Tracy: We have some wonderful ideas for the wedding.
Helena: Yes, now, the wedding can be right out here in the garden.
Tracy: How about at sunset?
Helena: Oh, perfect! The light is lovely at that time of day.
Tracy: And we can have the reception at the quartermaine mansion.
Helena: Oh, a celebration of joy --
Tracy: And healing.
Nikolas: Absolutely not.
Helena: Oh, Nikolas, now, think --
Nikolas: You won't be attending our wedding, much less planning it.
Emily: We're making all the decisions on our own.
Helena sighs.
Mac: Okay, sure. Well, there's been a break in the Mary Bishop homicide. I'm afraid you're going to have to come downtown.
Emily: Alexis, why do they need me to come in?
Alexis: Someone stepped forward with new evidence.
Nikolas: What sort of evidence?
Alexis: As your attorney, I was excluded from the interview due to a conflict of interest.
Nikolas: All right. What's going on, Ric?
Ric: Well, apparently, Commissioner Scorpio here went to an outside source to investigate Mary Bishop's murder. That source has found a nurse who can positively I.D. the person who gave Mary the medication that killed her.
Lucky: That's impossible.
Ric: Really?
Lucky: Elizabeth and I were there and we saw no one.
Ric: Well, she saw you there at the time, . She also said that she saw exactly what you did. Now, if that's true, it appears you're covering up the murder.
Ric: You stated that you didn't see anyone leaving Mary Bishop's room the night that she died. Now, either your powers of perception are surprisingly poor, or there's something you're leaving out.
Lucky: Everything I said is in my statement.
Ric: Okay, well, as long as you understand withholding information could cost you your badge, . Mac, I assume that you went outside the P.C.P.D. and you asked Felicia to investigate because you suspected that here was covering for Nikolas and Emily. She found proof. I want Officer Spencer suspended without pay, pending an investigation by I.A.
Emily: But you can't do that, Ric.
Ric: I cannot do what, uncover the truth?
Alexis: She rose to the defense of a friend. That's a perfectly natural impulse.
Ric: Ah, yes, it is, of course. Is that all it was?
Emily: Yes.
Ric: Okay, I may want to file charges of obstruction of justice against Officer Spencer here. You may want to stick around. You can talk to ms. Davis here about representation. Maybe she can put together a package deal.
Alexis: Are you finished?
Ric: Not quite. I'm going to talk to Nurse Harris in here. She's going to look through the photos and I.D. The person who actually gave Mary those pills.
Emily: Lucky, I'm so sorry.
Lucky: No, don't be. Okay, you know what? I couldn't do it any other way.
Emily: You could lose your job or worse. Maybe I should come forward.
Nikolas: No, no. I think we should wait. It might be a trick.
Lucky: Yeah.
Alexis: Emily, have you talked to your attorney?
Emily: I left messages for Justus, but he hasn't called me back. Maybe I should call Jason and --
Alexis: Oh, do me a favor -- don't get your brother into this. He'll just make it worse.
Nikolas: Look, Emily needs a lawyer now. Can you represent her, at least in the short term?
Alexis: I'll do the best that I can, but I need to know what I'm dealing with. Did you take the medication to Mary?
Emily: Yes, but I swear I didn't tamper with it.
Nikolas: Well, with any luck, the nurse won't I.D. Emily.
Lucky: If the nurse is the killer, she could I.D. Emily to frame her.
Nikolas: You remember seeing anyone else outside the I.C.U. Room other than Emily?
Lucky: No.
Alexis: Then where are these alleged witnesses?
Emily: Hiding somewhere?
Lucky: Listen, the only other person that could've been in the room was the killer.
Felicia: Nurse Harris has been on leave of absence taking care of her family since the night that Mary died.
Mac: That's quite a coincidence.
Felicia: It could be a legitimate one. Her brother-in-law was killed in a car accident. He had no life insurance, and Nurse Harris' sister had three little children.
Mac: How long had this nurse been working at General Hospital?
Felicia: 10 years. She keeps to herself. She has a clean record.
Mac: And how did she happen to be watching Mary Bishop's room?
Felicia: She was sneaking a smoke on the stairwell in the hallway. The door was cracked. She said that she saw a young woman with long brown hair steal a cup of medicine from the cart and go into Mary Bishop's room.
Donna: She wasn't in a nurse's uniform, which struck me as odd. I assumed that she was a friend. I didn't think anything more of it until I read about the patient's murder in the paper.
Ric: Mm-hmm. And you're sure you can identify this woman?
Donna: Yeah. She passed right by the stairway door.
Ric: Is she one of the women in these photos?
Emily: If that nurse I.D.'s me, it proves that I lied in my statement and Elizabeth and Lucky lied to cover for me.
Lucky: Hey, you know what? Don't worry. Just because I've been suspended doesn't mean I can't keep looking into it.
Ric: Thank you very much for your help.
Donna: You're welcome.
Alexis: Well?
Ric: She made a positive I.D. The person that Nurse Harris saw go into Mary Bishop's room with the medicine that killed her is Emily.
Ric: I'm afraid I'm going to have to place you under arrest.
Nikolas: No. No.
Alexis: The Quartermaines and I will have her out on bail faster than you can get her in lockup. Don't waste your time.
Ric: All right, I'll release you on your own recognizance, but please don't leave town. It goes for all of you.
Felicia: Emily, I'm sorry. I didn't realize it would come to this.
Emily: Yeah. I guess we should forget our wedding plans.
Nikolas: No, no, no -- hey, come here. Listen to me. All right, I promised that I would marry you, and nothing's going to stop me from doing that. Okay?
Emily: Okay.
Helena: Oh, it's -- it's all there.
Donna: Thank you. This will be so helpful to my sister and her children.
Helena: Just stick with the story that we gave you. You saw Emily Quartermaine go into Mary Bishop's hospital room with the medication.
Tracy: You'll be asked to testify in court, for which you will be paid an additional fee.
Donna: Oh, I'll be convincing.
Helena: Oh, yes. Yes, we expect you to be. Just remember, it is essential that Emily Quartermaine is convicted and sent to prison for the murder of Mary Bishop.
