Nikolas: I love you. No more putting this off. Say you'll marry me.

Emily: Nikolas, I -- I can’t.

Alexis: It's just that Kristina’s temperature has spiked twice in the past month.

Ric: Don't most kids go through periods where they seem to catch everything?

Alexis: Yes, they do. I'm sure that's probably what it is.

Ric: But you don't seem terribly convinced.

Alexis: I'm just concerned, is all.

Ric: Yeah, that's all right. It's understandable.

Alexis: You're not going to talk about how I feel and how I should not feel that way?

Ric: Well, I'm not that good of an attorney.

Helena: Why is my grandson still at large?

Ric: A good evening to you, too, Mrs. Cassadine. If you have a question about a particular case, I’d appreciate if you show up during business hours.

Helena: Nikolas escaped from the mental institution. Now, I have papers to recommit him, and I demand that you enforce them.

Alexis: There's nothing wrong with Nikolas -- only you, for wanting your own grandson committed so you can get your hands on the inheritance.

Helena: Oh, you're wrong, as usual, Alexis. Nikolas is severely disturbed. Why else would he have shot Mary Bishop in front of the police commissioner? And if you continue to insist that he was in his right mind, you will be sending Nikolas to prison for attempted manslaughter.

Emily: We're both facing criminal charges in connection with Mary’s death. You know, if we -- if we get married now, it's going to look like we're guilty.

Nikolas: How?

Emily: It looks like -- it looks like we're marrying so that we can't be forced to testify against each other.

Nikolas: Well, would that be the reason?

Emily: No.

Nikolas: No? Then who cares what people think? I love you, Emily. And I can't keep that between just the two of us anymore. Hey, I want to stand up in front of God, in front of -- in front of everyone we know and tell them how much you mean to me.

Alexis: Mary Bishop had already killed two people and attacked three others. Nikolas was simply defending his fiancée and himself.

Helena: Are you planning to have him plead self-defense?

Alexis: I'm not going to try this case in front of you. Why am I going to try this case --?

Helena: Well, you're not going to try this case at all. I'll have the commitment papers faxed to your office. You can detain Nikolas in the morning.

Ric: Um -- Mrs. Cassadine, I suggest you contact your attorneys, because Nikolas was free to walk out of Shadybrook a full 24 hours before he actually did. Now, someone -- I'm guessing it was Emily’s brother -- called in a favor to Judge Pinsker and got your commitment papers revoked. You and the staff of Shadybrook could be prosecuted for false imprisonment if you continue to pursue this issue.

Alexis: That would be your cue to leave.

Helena: Would you rather see Nikolas spend a few months in a mental facility or years in prison?

Alexis: I'm quite certain Nikolas will be acquitted. But even years in prison would be better than living under your rule.

Helena: I will not be denied.

Ric: Interesting lady. But you do realize you just handed me Nikolas' head on a silver platter.

Emily: There's no question that I want to marry you -- today, this minute. But there's so many things that could go wrong.

Nikolas: Name one.

Emily: We could get arrested before we even make it down the aisle, Nikolas.

Nikolas: We won't -- we won't -- that's not going to happen, okay? Listen to me. Everything about our wedding is going to be perfect. Perfect, ok? No bodies will fall out of the ceiling; no cosmetically altered relatives will show up back from the dead, ok? No aliens, clones, bomb scares, death threats, murder attempts, and fires. And if anyone tries to object, then pow -- I break their jaw. Okay? So is there anything that I haven't covered?

Emily: I think you said it all.

Nikolas: Good. Good, so let's make this official. Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen. Please, gather around, just for a second, please. Please -- thank you. I need some witnesses here, so just gather around. Stand up.

Emily: Nikolas --

Nikolas: Stand up, stand up.

Emily: What are you doing?

Nikolas: Will you marry me?

Emily: Yes.

Nikolas: What? I'm sorry, one more time. I didn't hear you. What did you say?

Emily: Yes.

Nikolas: What? Huh?

Emily: I'll marry you.

Nikolas: Okay.

Applause.

Nikolas: There you go, ladies and gentlemen, you heard her; you heard her. She can't change her mind now.

Laughter.

Nikolas: We're going to have a wonderful life, you know that?

Ric: You're going to get a light or suspended sentence for Nikolas, but you're not going to get him acquitted. No way.

Alexis: Not if I plead diminished capacity.

Ric: Oh, so I’m supposed to ignore that entire conversation that you just had with Helena:, where you said he's supposedly sane?

Alexis: Sane now. Not necessarily at the time of the murder.

Ric: Oh, I see. So it's selective insanity, right? That's very convenient, not to mention it's impossible to prove. Alexis, we do not have to go to trial here. All you have to do is you have to convince Nikolas to take treatment for a couple of years --

Alexis: No.

Ric: It's an outpatient basis.

Alexis: No -- if he goes into that mental facility, she will literally drug him and have him brainwashed.

Ric: Well, I'm not going to suppress Mac’s testimony. He is going to walk in there, he's going to tell that jury that Nikolas grabbed his gun and shot Mary Bishop point-blank. That is attempted manslaughter, at the very least. If I wanted to, I could push for second-degree murder.

Alexis: Nikolas is innocent, and he can still go free -- if you're willing to cooperate.

Emily: He gathered everyone around, and he asked them to listen while he proposed. Elizabeth, if I wasn't so happy, I think I'd be totally embarrassed.

Nikolas: Well -- yeah, what can I say? I was inspired.

Elizabeth: Congratulations. This is so wonderful!

Nikolas: Oh, thank you. Ahem.

Elizabeth: Oh -- Emmy.

Emily: So, I want to start planning the wedding right away. And, of course, I'm hoping that you'll be my maid of honor.

Elizabeth: Oh, gee, if only I had known sooner.

Nikolas: Gee, what -- what are you talking about?

Elizabeth: Well, I was thinking about retiling my bathroom, and maybe I have -- of course I’ll be your maid of honor! We all know who your best man will be.

Emily: Yeah. Lucky.

Nikolas: So -- so, yeah, you know, I was thinking about life and how important it is to make every day count. You know?

Emily: And one thing we've both learned is that everything can change in a minute.

Nikolas: Right, right, so I -- so instead of, you know, waiting for what you want, I think it's -- I think it's what -- what?

Lucky: Well, I just wish you -- if you got something to tell me, I wish you would both just say it.

Nikolas: I proposed to Emily again.

Emily: And we're going to be married very soon.

Lucky: Congratulations. I wish you all the best.

Emily: Oh. Thank you, Lucky. No one ever had a friend as good as you.

Nikolas: Thanks. Well, listen, there's only -- there's only one thing that would make this moment better than it is and that's if you'll be my best man.

Lucky: Of course I will. I want you both to be happy.

Nikolas: Thank you.

Alexis: I am not asking you to throw this case. I'm just asking you to have a little compassion while trying it.

Ric: Right, so just throw a few softball questions up in the air; fail to object when you put words in a witness' mouth?

Alexis: You know very well that Nikolas is not a killer. He acted in an understandable moment of passion!

Ric: That does not matter here! The fact is it is still against the law for one person to shoot another person.

Alexis: There is more to a case than just facts. There is the law and then there is the spirit of the law.

Ric: Really?

Alexis: Don't you think that Nikolas and Emily have suffered enough at the hands of Mary Bishop? Do you think they deserve to suffer any more?

Ric: Look, just save it for your summation, counselor. There's no way I can do what you're asking.

Emily: Nikolas!

Nikolas: What?

Emily: You're supposed to wait until we're married.

Nikolas: I thought a couple dry runs couldn't hurt, and I just might take you over every threshold in the house, just because I can.

Emily laughs.

Nikolas: Emily and I are getting married. Don't expect an invitation.

Helena: Well, you know how I feel on the subject.

Nikolas: And I couldn't care less.

Helena: Marrying Emily will only bring you misery.

Nikolas: Goodbye, grandmother. Go back to Greece, please. Thank you. Goodbye.

Helena: Nikolas -- Nikolas, I'm your only family. I'm all you have left.

Nikolas: You locked me in a mental institution and tried to drug me into loving you, and it didn't work. And you know what, it never will. Don't come back. You have no place in my life.

Emily: You need to stop. From now on, I’m declaring this a no-brooding zone.

Nikolas: My grandmother won't give up. She'll try and stop us from getting married. You know that.

Emily: But we aren't going to let her, are we?

Nikolas: No.

Emily: No, this isn't the time to be thinking about Helena:. Tonight belongs to us alone.

Helena: Oh, Ms. Quartermaine. Or do you prefer "Tracy"?

Tracy: What I’d prefer is not to have to talk to you.

Helena: Well, I suggest that you reconsider, because I believe we could be of use to one another.

Tracy: Really? How?

Helena: My grandson Nikolas has plans to marry Emily.

Tracy: Oh. Again?

Helena: Yes. And I imagine that the Quartermaines would be as opposed to this marriage as the Cassadines, so I suggest that we work together to keep it from taking place.
