September 10, 2004 Screencaps

Lucky: Mary -- she's psycho. She killed twice. She threatened to make Emily her next victim. Emily -- she must've been terrified worrying about herself, for you.

Nikolas: Angry, too. She couldn't even look at Mary without going off on her.

Lucky: Well, you know what? We both know there's nobody more kind or gentler than Emily, unless somebody she knows is in danger.

Nikolas: Yeah.

Lucky: I mean, she loved you the most. I can see her killing to protect you. So, you know, why don't you just be honest with me, can't you?

Nikolas: Okay, yes, I can. I can see that. But whether Emily gave Mary the meds that killed her on purpose or not on purpose doesn't matter. The point is we're the ones that need to do the protecting at all costs, and I’m asking you, can you do that?

Lucky: Yeah -- I can't believe you're honestly asking me that.

Nikolas: Lucky, you're a cop. Come on.

Lucky: Well, I love Emily, too, remember? Don't waste your energy worrying about me.

Nikolas: I -- I just needed to say it.

Elizabeth:Hey, Nikolas?

Nikolas: What? What? What happened? Where's Emily?

Elizabeth:She went to the PCPD. She said she's going to confess.

Justus: I'd be happy to take Emily’s case. And I'll defend her to the best of my abilities.

Jason: Thank you.

Justus: Hold your gratitude. There's a condition -- win or lose, I want you and Sonny to give me your word as honorable men that you will not come after Faith.

Jason: Be as smart as I know you are. Do not go down because of Faith. Sonny already caught you helping her once, and he let you walk away. He's not going to do it again, Justus.

Justus: Faith for Emily. What's your answer?

Jason: The answer is no.

Jason: Isn't it obvious that I’m trying to help you out with Sonny? But I can't believe you would ask me to go to Sonny and plead for Faith Rosco’s life. Do you really think Faith is not going to turn on you, Justus?

Justus: I'll take my chances.

Jason: Well, then you're something I never thought you were -- a fool. You were one of the best attorneys around. I dragged you out of that monastery to defend Sonny, but there's no way I’m putting myself on the line with Sonny to save Faith's sorry life! It's not going to happen!

Justus: Then I can't take Emily’s case.

Jason: Justus! Come on, you're not being fair. Emily is not in my line of work. And she's never treated you with anything but kindness and respect, and you would turn your back on her to help Faith? I thought that family meant something to you.

Justus: When did you start choking that word out?

Jason: I chose to keep my distance from the Quartermaines! You always wanted to be closer! This is your chance. You know Emily is the heart and soul of that family. You save her, and you are in. The Quartermaines may not be perfect, but they will stick with you a lot longer than Faith will. So I’m asking you -- again. Please, do the right thing and help Emily. I really think she's going to need it.

Elizabeth:We're too late.

Nikolas: We -- we don't know that yet.

Lucky: All right, no scenes. It'll backfire.

Nikolas: What do you suggest we do?

Lucky: Nothing. It's in Emily’s hands right now.

Ric: Now, the final autopsy report revealed that Mary Bishop didn't die from the gunshot wound. She died from being given the wrong medication.

Emily: I -- I know. Um -- that's why I’m here -- to tell you what I know about that night.

Ric: I'm listening.

Emily: I went to see Mary.

Ric: When you knew that she was recovering from being shot by Nikolas?

Emily: Yes.

Ric: Why would you do that?

Emily: I wanted to warn Mary to stay away from me and Nikolas.

Ric: How did she react?

Emily: She was hostile. She was threatening. She -- she acted like an alternate personality. She -- she talked as if Mary was someone else.

Ric: Mm-hmm?

Emily: She said that she was sure that she would be sent to a mental facility for a couple of years, and then be released.

Ric: What happened next?

Emily: Mary said she was going to kill me, and then I left.

Ric: Very upset, I would imagine.

Emily: Wouldn't you be?

Ric: Upset enough to want to kill her?

Jason: I thought we agreed Emily was not going to give a statement without an attorney present.

Nikolas: She came down here on her own --

Jason: Well, why didn't you try to stop her?

Lucky: Emily didn't exactly warn us ahead of time, Jason. She had an attack of conscience; she acted on it. Emily's not like you -- she's not good at stonewalling police.

Jason: That's too bad, Lucky, because Ric has an agenda. He always does.

Nikolas: You okay?

Emily: I'm fine.

Nikolas: Why didn't you tell us you were coming here? Why'd -- why'd you do that?

Ric: Because Emily knew that you would stop her from telling the truth, Nikolas. That's not an option anymore.

Ric: I know that none of you here -- especially Jason, the experienced one -- thinks that it was wise for Emily to make a statement, but, personally, I’m very glad that she did.

Jason: Hmm, I’ll bet you are, Ric.

Ric: Oh, I'm sure you never heard of this phrase before, Jason, but the truth does set you free.

Nikolas: May we take that literally, Ric? Emily's free to go?

Ric: Yeah, sure. But I wouldn't make any plans out of town. We may need more clarification.

Jason: Emily, you shouldn't have done that.

Elizabeth:Yeah, Em. You know we had your back.

Lucky: I was ready to cover for you.

Emily: Listen, relax, guys. I lied. I gave Ric the story we came up with -- that I left Mary’s room and I ran into Elizabeth. But you never left the med cart, and I never went back into Mary’s room with those pills.

Nikolas: Thank God.

Emily: Look, I'm not feeling really good about lying here.

Jason: You did what you had to do.

Nikolas: Yeah, it's okay.

Justus: Jason told me you needed help. I want you to know I’m available.

Nikolas: Is -- is that an offer of representation?

Justus: Absolutely.

Nikolas: All right. I think we should take him up on it.

Emily: Okay, I -- I will, gratefully.

Justus: I'm happy to help and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win this case, but I need to know the truth. Now, obviously, this isn't the place to do it, so could you guys come with me?

Nikolas: Sure, okay.

Lucky: Hey, I need to be there, too.

Justus: Absolutely not.

Lucky: Why? Because I'm a -- I’m a cop? More importantly, I'm Emily’s friend. I won't say or do anything that makes things worse for her.

Justus: Let's go.

Elizabeth:Hey, what about me, because I'd really like to be with Emily. I think --

Justus: I'll let you know if I need you.

Jason: Just so you know, there's no deal.

Justus: I'm clear on that, but you're right -- Emily’s family. Let's go, guys.

Elizabeth:Why is Justus excluding me?

Ric: Oh, I'm glad you're still here. Look, I'm sorry, but I need to ask you some questions about Mary Bishop's death.

Elizabeth:So, what do you want to know?

Ric: You delivered the med cart to the on-duty nurse the night that Mary Bishop got the wrong medication, is that right?

Jason: I don't like where this is going.

Ric: Look, Jason, if you can't keep your mouth shut --

Jason: You're not going to accuse Elizabeth of killing a woman she barely knew, Ric!

Ric: You know what? You have no --

Elizabeth:Wait, me?

Ric: Get out, get out.

Elizabeth:Ric --

Ric: Officer? Thank you.

Elizabeth:Oh, come on, Ric. You know I didn't kill anybody.

Ric: I'm not saying that you did.

Elizabeth:Then what are you saying?

Ric: You, Nikolas, Emily, and Lucky are as tight as four friends can be. The three of them covered for you when they thought that you killed Zander, right? I don't know, maybe that's what's happening now.

Elizabeth:Oh, you think I'm covering for Emily?

Ric: Or the other way around. Either way, a woman is dead, and like it or not, it is my job to get to the bottom of what happened to her.

Emily: I can't deny that I thought about it, and I knew that -- that the wrong meds -- or the right ones, depending on how you look at it -- could stop Mary for good. But all I did was -- was grab the meds, the prescribed ones, and I took them back into her room as an excuse to go back and try to get through to her again.

Justus: I don't understand, Emily. Why -- why wouldn't you just leave the hospital?

Emily: I don't even know, Justus. Maybe I thought that I could finally find the words to -- to make her back off. I don't know, it just seems so stupid now.

Justus: You realize going back inside that room gives you motive, means, and opportunity?

Nikolas: Yeah, but she didn't kill Mary. You know that.

Justus: Was there anyone else inside that room?

Emily: No.

Justus: Did you see anyone?

Lucky: There was no one. And that -- it just -- it doesn't make sense.

Justus: No, it doesn't. Maybe Elizabeth killed her.

Emily: No. That's impossible.

Justus: Now, Lansing might see it another way. I need a copy of Mary’s autopsy report.

Lucky: I can get that for you.

Justus: No more meetings alone with the D.A. If he calls you, you call me directly, ok?

Emily: Will do.

Justus: All right, guys.

Nikolas: Ahem.

Emily: Oh, this keeps getting worse. What, now -- now Elizabeth’s a suspect?

Nikolas: No, Justus was spinning. We don't know that for sure.

Emily: No, listen, none of this would be happening if I’d just done what you asked and stayed out of Mary’s room. I mean, who knows? She might be alive right now.

Nikolas: Emily, don't start thinking like that. You did what seemed right at the time. Now we just deal with the fallout. At least we know you didn't kill Mary.

Emily: No, Nikolas. I don't know that at all.

Jason: A half-hour ago, you were badgering Emily without an attorney present, now it's Elizabeth’s turn? Elizabeth, you don't have to stay here for this.

Ric: You know what? You're tampering with a witness. If you don't back off, I’m going to have you arrested.

Jason: Go ahead, Ric. You don't have to talk to him.

Elizabeth:Jason, it's okay. I can handle this.

Ric: Look, have a little faith here, okay? I don't want her implicated in Mary’s death any more than you do.

Elizabeth:Really, Jason, I'm going to be fine.

Jason: Okay, if you change your mind, I’ll come right back with Justus.

Ric sighs.

Ric: You guys keep him busy, don't you? Look, I know this stinks, but Jason is right. You may want to call an attorney.

Elizabeth:I have nothing to hide.

Ric: I hope so, Elizabeth, because if you're lying to protect Emily, you got to remember you have a little boy at home who needs your protection, too.

Emily: What if I gave Mary the wrong medication accidentally on purpose, Nikolas? I mean -- can't deny that I wanted Mary out of our lives more than anything.

Nikolas: So what if you did? I'm sorry, Emily. Maybe I'm not a nice person, but I don't feel bad for Mary. She killed two people, and nearly killed you. I'm glad she's gone. I just wish she'd stay that way. I mean, even now it's like she's -- it's like she's here right between us, trying to make you feel guilty and responsible for what happened, making it all about herself, and I’m telling you I'm not going to let that happen. All right? I'm going to turn the focus back where it belongs. But I need your cooperation.

Nikolas: I'd only just got you back when all hell broke loose, but I'm not going to let circumstances come between us again, okay?

Emily: I don't want that, either.

Nikolas: Good. Then say yes.

Emily: To what?

Nikolas: My proposal. I love you. No -- no more putting this off. Say you'll marry me now.
