September 9, 2004 Screencaps

Justus: Let me guess why you want this meeting. You heard I'm off Faith's case and you want to remind me of what's going to happen to her if she's acquitted.

Jason: Hey, forget Faith. I'm here about Emily.

Nikolas: You couldn't have killed Mary.

Emily: You don't understand.

Nikolas: She had a cardiac arrest because someone gave her the wrong medication.

Emily: It was me. I gave Mary those pills. I killed her.

Jason: And Emily had good motive, okay? She was at the hospital; she had access to the medication. She did not do it, but you know what Ric’s going to do --

Justus: And, what, you want me to fix this, make this go away?

Jason: Emily needs a really good lawyer.

Justus: The last time you saw me you threatened me!

Jason: It could have been the last time anybody saw you! But I let you go. I didn't follow you.

Justus: So what? Do you want me to take this case out of gratitude? Is that it?

Jason: Yes, and because Emily is your family.

Justus: Emily has other family, starting with you and the rest of the highly influential, well-connected Quartermaines. Faith has no one but me! I can't turn my back on her!

Alexis: As Faith's attorney, I'm going to ask you to end this conversation right now. Jason here probably has standing orders to kill my client. You don't have anything to gain by talking to him, Justus.

Justus: I agree.

Alexis: Let's go review some strategy, shall we?

Jason: You just remember what really matters.

Justus: Believe me, I have.

Ric: Jason -- just the man I want.

Jason: Oh, and as usual, I have nothing to say to you, Ric.

Ric: Well, as usual, I have a great deal to say, and I suggest that you listen. That is, if you care anything about your little sister.

Emily: I went to Mary’s room. Everyone told me not to, but I was so angry with her, Nikolas. And I told her that I wasn't scared and I warned her to stay away from us.

Nikolas: Did anyone hear you?

Emily: I don't know.

Nikolas: Okay. All right, what happened next?

Emily: I was too angry to stay in her room, so I went out into the hallway, and Elizabeth was there with the med cart, and she asked me to watch it while she went to go and get some water.

Mary: You're back.

Emily: I'll always be back, Mary. I will prove that you killed those poor kids in cold blood.

Mary: I doubt it.

Emily: You aren't smart enough to fake insanity.

Mary: Who says I'm faking?

Emily: You'll make a mistake, probably soon, and Ric Lansing will catch on, and he will make an example out of you, and you will be out of my life forever.

Mary: Connor's going to take care of everything when he comes home.

Emily: Connor is dead. He won't be back, and you know it. Nikolas despises you, and I hope you burn in hell.

Nikolas: Did you see Mary take the pills?

Emily: No, but I took them into her room, Nikolas.

Nikolas: Why did you take them into her room?

Emily: In case I needed an excuse to be in her room.

Nikolas: You didn't kill her.

Emily: Maybe not consciously, Nikolas, but in my heart of hearts, I wanted her dead, and now she is because of me.

Elizabeth: Thanks for getting here so quickly.

Lucky: Yeah. Want to add something to your statement? Did you remember something else?

Elizabeth: Actually, I need to clarify a couple of things. You see, I made a mistake earlier. Emily was never left alone with the med cart.

Lucky: Well, then, who'd you leave it with?

Elizabeth: No one. No one. I just turned my back for a second, and that was it. Emily was never alone with the medication.

Lucky: Then you're retracting your statement?

Elizabeth: The part about Emily, yes.

Lucky: You know what? I love Emily, too, as much as you do.

Elizabeth: Then you know she didn't kill anybody.

Lucky: All I need is the facts.

Elizabeth: The fact is, Lucky, Mary Bishop is a killer and Emily isn’t. Now, is there anything else you need to know?

Lucky: You know what? Emily -- she came to the station prepared to give a statement, and Jason showed up and changed her mind. She refused to answer any questions. Now all of a sudden, you're retracting your statement. Jason got to you, too, didn't he?

Ric: In reviewing Lucky Spencer’s report, apparently Emily was ready to make a statement, that is, until you got her alone. Now, I can only assume that you convinced her to stay silent, which is not going to help her Jason. As a matter of fact, it makes her look very bad.

Jason: Emily has nothing to say to you.

Ric: Well, she might want to reconsider. See, if Emily doesn't start cooperating and very, very soon, I'm going to be forced to have to deal with her in a different way.

Jason: You leave my sister alone.

Ric: Threatening the district attorney right here in the squad room. Well, that doesn't make a lot of sense.

Jason: You threatened everyone I care about. And I've wanted to stop you for a long time, but Sonny has protected you. You go after my sister; that's between you and me.

Ric: I'm not going after Emily, you moron. I'm trying to help her.

Nikolas: At some point, you're going to have to talk to the police. So you need to decide exactly what you're going to say. Did anyone see you pick up the medication?

Emily: I don't think so.

Nikolas: Were any nurses around?

Emily: I didn't see any.

Nikolas: You know, except Elizabeth?

Emily: Right, she'd gone to get water for the cart.

Nikolas: Right, right did she see you pick up the medication?

Emily: No.

Nikolas: Then you didn’t.

Emily: You want me to lie?

Nikolas: No, I want you to protect yourself. If that cart was left unattended, then anyone could have taken the medication to Mary.

Emily: No, no, no, I don't want to make Liz look bad.

Nikolas: Well, then, don't mention her at all unless you're asked. Don't volunteer anything.

Emily: What if I'm asked directly?

Nikolas: Then tell them something plausible, just so they'll leave you alone. I mean, in a way, Jason did you a favor because everybody knows he's paranoid. When he showed up to the PCPD this morning and you refused to answer questions, it looked like it was because he was pressuring you, not because you had something to hide.

Emily: No, I do have something to hide.

Nikolas: Did you alter Mary’s medication?

Emily: No.

Nikolas: No, no, so you need to tell the police whatever it is they need to hear to eliminate you as a suspect. Lucky, I was just telling Emily that she has nothing to worry about, right?

Lucky: You don't, if you just tell me everything.

Nikolas: Now, are you speaking as Officer Spencer, criminal investigator, or as Lucky, my brother and Emily’s friend?

Lucky: You're my only brother. Emily is my oldest friend. You guys can trust me with the truth.

Emily: Yeah, I have -- I have nothing to hide.

Lucky: Then you're ok if I review what we got?

Emily: Sure.

Lucky: All right. So, you went into Mary’s room --

Emily: Yeah. We argued, and I left. I went back out to the elevators, and Nikolas was there. We heard a code blue coming from Mary’s room, and that's when we went back to her room to check on her, and -- you know the rest.

Lucky: You only went to Mary’s room once before the code blue?

Emily: Yeah, that's right.

Lucky: Are you sure?

Emily: Mm-hmm.

Lucky: You know I was on my way to question Mary. I saw the med cart, and no one was around. That's when I saw you running out of Mary’s room, and that had to be the second time that you were there.

Justus: What you're doing here won't help Emily’s case.

Ric: Look, would somebody please explain to Jason that by pressuring his sister to stay silent he only makes her look more guilty. Once I get a statement from Emily, I can take her off the witness list.

Alexis: The best thing you can do for Emily is to advise her to cooperate.

Ric: Yes. Questioning Emily is a procedural formality. See, you're the one who's casting suspicion on your own sister by implying that she has something to hide.

Jason: Emily has nothing to say to you, Ric.

Ric: Mm-hmm.

Jason: You stay away from her.

Alexis: You're wasting your breath. He can't see that he's doing Emily more harm than good.

Justus: I'll take that into consideration.

Alexis: I do hope you were paying attention.

Ric: Excuse me?

Alexis: Jason won't cooperate, even though it's to his advantage. He's as single-minded with his hatred of you as you are about Sonny.

Ric: Oh, I get it. I see. So I go after Emily, and that infuriates Jason, and it hurts Sonny. I get it. I'm still obsessed. It's all about my brother --

Alexis: That is breathtakingly narcissistic, even for you.

Ric: Well, that's the way you see me, isn't it?

Alexis: Actually, no.

Emily: Mary threatened me, lucky.

Nikolas: Threatened you? She strangled you; stabbed you.

Lucky: Ok, just take me through what happened in the moments leading up to Mary’s death. Elizabeth -- she asked you to watch the med cart for a few minutes. You agreed.

Elizabeth: No, she didn’t. I told you, I made a mistake, lucky.

Lucky: All right, then, you want to tell us what happened?

Elizabeth: I walked away from the med cart to get a pitcher of water and then I came back.

Lucky: Okay, wait -- why are you changing your story?

Elizabeth: I told you, I made a mistake. Come on, I'm a working mom on a new job. Why are you pushing this?

Nikolas: She's right, leave it alone.

Lucky: Do any of you trust me at all?

Nikolas: Well, you tell us what you think happened, lucky.

Lucky: On the night that Mary died, Emily went into her room. They argued, she left. She never saw a cart. She never went back in that room. She never saw Mary again.

Lucky: Emily will be fine if we all stick to the same story.

Elizabeth: Good. You had me worried there for a second.

Lucky: Emily's my best friend. There's no way I will turn her over to Ric Lansing.

Emily: I appreciate that.

Nikolas: After everything we've been through, here we all still are.

Elizabeth: I think this calls for a toast.

Lucky: Yes. You want to see if Mike has any brownies?

Nikolas: Yeah, let's go.

Elizabeth: That's a good idea. Thanks, guys.

Nikolas: Can I get four of those brownies, you know, and coffee -- you want coffee? Two coffees. Thanks. Listen, I appreciate you supporting Emily on this.

Lucky: Hmm. Well, Mary -- she was psycho. I mean, she killed twice. She threatened to kill Emily and make her her next victim. Emily -- she must have been terrified for you, herself.

Nikolas: Yeah. She was angry, too. She couldn't even look at Mary without going off on her.

Lucky: And we both know that Emily is probably the kindest, most gentle person in the world, unless somebody she knows is in danger. She loved you the most. I can see her killing somebody to protect you. Be honest. Can't you?

Emily: Elizabeth, it isn't right asking you all to lie.

Elizabeth: Okay, listen to me. I should have never left the med cart with you. You should have never gone back into Mary’s room, but we didn't kill anyone.

Emily: Yeah, but if Lucky saw me, someone else could have, too.

Elizabeth: But no one's come forward yet, and hopefully no one will.

Emily: I know, but Lucky could lose his job over this, Elizabeth. So could you.

Elizabeth: Why are you dreaming up worst-case scenarios? We have been covering for each other for years. And besides, you happen to be innocent.

Emily: But so are you and Lucky, Elizabeth, and you're risking everything to protect me. And it isn't right. I should confess.

Justus: Jason, hold on! What were you thinking back there? Antagonizing Lansing like that can't help Emily’s case.

Jason: Well, will you help her? Please, will you take the case?

Justus: I'll be happy to take Emily’s case. And I'll defend her to the best of my abilities.

Jason: Thank you.

Justus: Hold your gratitude. There's a condition. Win or lose, I want you and Sonny to give me your word as honorable men that you will not come after Faith.
