Ric: That's far enough.

Ric: All right, Zander, there's nowhere to run. I want you to step away from Emily.

Emily: I'm okay, Ric. Zander hasn't hurt me in any way. He's ready to give himself up.

Ric: Then he won't have any problem following my instructions. Zander, kneel down; put your hands on top of your head.

Emily: Please, Zander, do what he says. Do what he says.

Zander: I love you, Emily.

Ric: Do it, Zander.

Emily: Zander --

Zander: I love you.

Emily: Zander --

Ric: Hit him now!

Emily: Oh! No. No -- no! No! No. No.

Emily: No, you stay away from him! All of you! Wait, you, too! I don't need your phony sympathy. None of you gave a damn about Zander!

Ric: Emily, you need to step away.

Emily: He wasn't even armed! I told you that, but you wouldn't listen to me! Oh, Zander. Why did you do this? Why?

Zander: This is the way we met. Cops around. I grabbed you. Maybe it should have ended like this, then.

Emily: No.

Zander: I'm glad it didn’t. Then I never would've known what it was to love. Thank you.

Emily: No. Hey, you're going to be all right. We're going to get you to -- we're going to get you to the hospital.

Zander: For a while, you made my life golden.

Emily: No. I hope you're happy. He's dead.

Wo

Ross: Hello, this is OnStar Emergency, Lisa speaking. We have received a signal that your air bag deployed. Do you need help? I repeat, do you need help?

Nikolas: Emily --

Emily: Wait, wait. Wait. I'm so sorry, Zander, for everything. You deserved better.

Lucky: Let it go, Emily. There's nothing more you can do.

Emily: Okay.

Lucky: Gary --

Emily: Listen, I need a favor.

Lucky: Anything.

Emily: Find Nikolas. At one point, Zander said that he had done something to hurt him, and then he denied it later, and I just -- I need to be sure.

Lucky: Yeah, I'll find him.

Emily: Okay. What happens now, Ric?

Ric: Zander's body's going to be taken to the county morgue. They need to do an autopsy on him.

Emily: Well, I don't see why. We all know what happened. Zander was gunned down by the police.

Ric: It's police procedure --

Emily: You know, you guys should really be proud.

Ric: To take the subject --

Emily: A job well done, emptying your weapons into an unarmed man.

Lucky: Okay, there's nothing more you can do here, Emily. Let -- let me take you home.

Emily: But you searched Zander’s body. You know he didn't have a gun. It's in the cottage, where he left it, where I asked him to leave it. I swore to Zander that he could give himself up peacefully, and he believed me. He put the gun down, he came outside willingly.

Lucky: Okay, the police will --

Emily: And your men just shot him down anyway!

Lucky: The police were just following procedure, Emily. Zander appeared to be reaching for a weapon.

Emily: But he put his hands in his pockets! That is not a crime punishable by death!

Ric: Emily, he was instructed to kneel down on the ground. He did not comply with those instructions.

Emily: But you could have waited the two seconds --

Ric: He reached behind himself as if he were grabbing a --

Emily: That it would've taken you to make sure. You people just opened fire, huh? Maybe that's what you intended all along.

Elizabeth: Em -- Em, you don't mean --

Emily: I'm not talking to you! You were the one who called the order to open fire. That's what you intended all along, wasn't it? Zander never had a chance. You wanted him dead, and now he is.

Lisa: Hello, this is Onstar emergency. I repeat, we have indication of an air bag deployment. Do you need help? If you can hear me but are unable to speak, don't panic. I'll notify emergency services in the area of your exact location. I'll be back with you when help is on the way.

Emily: Did you know about this? Did Ric promise you that Zander wouldn't live long enough to claim his child?

Elizabeth: Oh, Emily, you know that's not true. I'm the one who came looking for you. I found Zander holding you hostage in the cottage and I called the police.

Emily: Right. Remind me to thank you one day.

Elizabeth: I probably saved your life. At the very least, I kept Zander from kidnapping you again.

Emily: Zander wasn't going to hurt me, Elizabeth. You should have known that. Your husband certainly did. Zander didn't die tonight because he was a dangerous fugitive. He died because he's the father of your baby and that made him an inconvenience --

Ric: Okay, all right --

Emily: To Ric.

Ric: All right, Emily, that's enough. Now, I realize that you felt very deeply for Zander at one point in your life, so you're inclined to see him in the best possible light. But the fact remains that he killed an innocent man, and he set fire to the Port Charles Hotel in order to cover it up -- a fire that, incidentally, killed three other people -- one of which, being Zander’s father -- and devastated your family. Now, I'm not even going to include Nikolas into this equation. I mean, he did almost die in that fire, too, right? Now, you tell me. If that had happened, would you still be yelling at all of us and defending Zander? Emily, Zander made a choice that led up to what happened here today, including that choice to reach behind him, as if he were going for a gun, and drawing police fire. I realize that is a very painful thing for you to think about but it is the truth, and you have to accept it. Zander died because he wanted to.

Ric: Put Emily into Interrogation One. Emily, I'm going to need a statement from you about everything that transpired between you and Zander at the cottage.

Emily: Fine.

Ric: Sweetheart, I'm going to need a statement from you, as well.

Elizabeth: Yeah, I know.

Ric: You know, I'm sure this is probably a ridiculous question considering everything that's happened, but is something wrong?

Elizabeth: I was so sure I was doing the right thing, you know? I mean, notifying the authorities about Zander holding Em. Maybe -- maybe I was terribly mistaken.

Lucky: Here you go. You're not in trouble or anything. We just need to record the details as soon as possible so we can close the file.

Emily: "File." Whew. I'm grateful, Lucky. At least you didn't fire at Zander.

Lucky: Em, you might not want to hear this, but I think Ric was right this time. Zander wanted to die. Maybe all you can do is bless him and just let him go. Hey, can I get you some water?

Emily: Yeah.

Knock on door.

Emily: That would help, thanks.

Lucky: Hell of a first night on the job, huh?

Ross: Yeah. It's not over yet. Ross Duncan.

Lucky: Lucky Spencer. Lansing hire you?

Ross: Yeah. He's who I interviewed with.

Lucky: So where'd you train?

Ross: Manhattan. Six years in uniform; four as a detective.

Lucky: Lansing comes from Manhattan.

Ross: Yeah, I testified against one of his clients once. He put me through a hell of a cross-examination. I didn't flinch, so I guess he was impressed, you know. Saw my name on the application. He remembered me.

Lucky: So why Port Charles?

Ross: Lansing made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Officer: Excuse me. We just had a report from Onstar. Your brother's car has been involved in an accident.

Lucky: Is Nikolas okay? Officer: Sorry, I don't know.

Lucky: Okay, thank you. I'll check it out.

Mary: Who's there? If this is an act -- I'll get you inside, and then I'll go for help.

Paramedic: Driver was gone by the time we got here. Door was open, there's blood on the headrest. We're assuming he wandered off, dazed by a head injury. We checked the area, but there's nothing.

Lucky: How far away is the river?

Paramedic: Less than 100 yards. The bank is steep. The river's in flood. If the driver fell in, he could be dead by now.

Mary: Hold on! I'm going to get you into bed, and then I'm going to go get help. I had my phone disconnected. I couldn't handle the sympathy. My car's in the shop as usual. Come on. There's an emergency phone box on the road. Oh -- oh -- oh, come on, guy. Don't you die on me, too.

Ric: Can you remember anything else?

Emily: Zander told me that he'd done something to Nikolas; that he'd hurt him somehow. And by the time Zander admitted that he was lying, the police were already there.

Ric: Did Zander ever mention a man named Wally?

Emily: No.

Ric: Did he admit to killing the utility man in the basement of the hotel?

Emily: No, and even if he did, I'm sure it was an accident. Zander never wanted to hurt anyone. All he wanted was for me to run away to Canada with him. He wanted to cross the border at Kirbyville. There's a footbridge there. We almost made it over once. Things would be a whole lot different now if we had.

Ric: All I need is your signature.

Emily: Papers in a file. It's hard to believe that's all that's left of Zander’s life. I'd like to go now.

Ric: Yeah, of course. Thank you for your help. I'm sorry for your loss.

Emily: Excuse me. I'm looking for Lucky Spencer.

Ross: Yeah, he's out on a call. His brother was involved in a car accident.

Emily: His brother?

Ross: Nikolas Cassadine.

Mary: Your pulse is steady. You don't seem to be going into shock. Of course, you could be bleeding internally. For a split second there, when I saw you on the front porch, I thought there'd been a terrible mistake.

Nikolas gasps.

Nikolas: Who are you?

Ric: Elizabeth?

Elizabeth: Hey.

Ric: When I didn't find you at home, I figured you'd come back here. Still thinking about Zander?

Elizabeth: He's my baby's father. Now he's dead, and I just -- I feel -- I feel sorry. I feel relieved and yet I feel -- I feel guilty.

Ric: That's understandable.

Elizabeth: And I just -- I can't -- I keep wondering how we could have prevented what happened here tonight, and what on earth are we going to tell this child?

Ric: Well, look, we'll decide that together when the time comes. Listen to me. This child is going to have everything that Zander didn't have. The child's going to be the center of a very happy family. It's going to benefit from all the good that we have to give it.

Elizabeth: Yeah, and we're free to do that now, because Zander’s gone.

Ric: Yeah.

Elizabeth: I need to know. Was Emily right? Did you really want Zander dead?

Lucky: Emily.

Emily: Detective Duncan brought me out. He said Nikolas was in an accident. Where is he? What happened?

Lucky: They think Nikolas suffered from a head injury and he wandered off.

Emily: Okay, well, you have to find him.

Ross: We're on it. We have men on the ground. Helicopters are going to check the river.

Emily: River?

Lucky: I know it's been a night of hell for you already, but it might not be over. You might have to prepare yourself for the worst.

Emily: Just tell me now.

Lucky: The river is less than 100 yards away, and it's in flood. If he fell in, he might have drowned.

Mary: You've been hurt. Just try to stay calm.

Nikolas: I don't -- I don't recognize this place. How did I get here? What's -- what's my name?

Mary: Don't you know?

Nikolas: I don't know anything. What -- what happened to me?

Mary: You hurt your head, but you're going to be all right.

Nikolas: Who are you? Who are you?

Mary: I'm your -- wife.
