Lucky: Hey, Lansing, security footage from the camera at the courthouse shows that Baldwin was there at the time of Zander's murder in the hotel.
Ric: Well, then we can cross Baldwin off of our list of suspects. Good following up.
Lucky: Hey, Lansing.
Ric: Hmm?
Lucky: You know, from the beginning you've been pretty certain that Baldwin wasn't the killer. Why?
Ric: Well, for one thing, there wasn't a shred of evidence.
Lucky: Either that or you're holding inside information on Zander's death.
Zander's voice: "Dear Elizabeth -- if you're reading this, I'm probably dead. Ric killed me, and you know why."
Nikolas: I don't like the idea of involving Elizabeth.
Emily: She's married to Ric. She's carrying Zander's baby. She has a right to know the truth.
Nikolas: I know, but there's no proof Ric killed Zander.
Emily: Well, there could be after today.
Keys rattle.
Ric: Gosh. Some new key, huh?
Elizabeth: Hey, honey.
Ric: Hi.
Elizabeth: Do you, um -- do you know where the new box of checks is, because I can't -- I can't find them. I just used up the old ones.
Ric: Um -- oh, no. No, no, no, it's over here.
Elizabeth: You know, they say pregnancy makes you lose your memory, and it's so true because I can't remember a thing.
Ric: That's all right.
Elizabeth: Thank you.
Ric: Here's a chance for you to test your memory. You called me at the office, you wanted me to come right home. Why?
Elizabeth: Yeah, you're not going to like this.
Lucky: You can take Scott Baldwin off the suspect list. He was on the security camera at the courthouse the same time as Zander's murder.
Nikolas: Does Ric know that?
Lucky: Yeah, and he wasn't surprised at all.
Emily: Look, of course he wasn't. Ric killed Zander himself, and we're going to prove it.
Lucky: No, you know what, he's way too smart for that. He'll know you're on to him.
Nikolas: He's also arrogant. See, Ric's convinced that he's gotten away with murder. His guard's down.
Lucky: And what makes you so sure he'll show up?
Nikolas: Well, he told Elizabeth that he's only going through the motions of prosecuting me while he searches for another suspect. He has to keep up pretense.
Emily: Of course, he may lie his way out of it.
Nikolas: True. But we'll be putting the pressure on him and hopefully we'll force him into a mistake.
Emily: Elizabeth, Ric, thanks for coming.
Elizabeth: Lucky, too? Damn, if this is a reunion of the four musketeers, maybe Ric should've stayed at home.
Emily: We wanted Ric to be here.
Ric: Look, I know you're all Elizabeth's closest friends, and if this is a social gathering, I'd be happy to attend. But if this has anything to do with the murder charges against Nikolas, I'm afraid I'm going to have to leave. It's a violation of procedure to discuss this case out of court.
Lucky: Well, you're only going through the formalities of prosecuting Nikolas while you continue to search for an alternate suspect. Isn't that right?
Ric: No, actually, Lucky, I'm trying to do my job. I'd suggest you do the same. Scott Baldwin was eliminated as a primary suspect this morning.
Elizabeth: Whoa. What? When did this happen?
Ric: We -- we just found out that there was evidence that Scott was nowhere near the hotel at the time of Zander's death.
Elizabeth: Why didn't you tell me this?
Ric: I just found out about it. All right, they went over the security camera footage at the courthouse and Scott was on it. Look, Elizabeth, you have to face the facts -- Nikolas had means, he had motive, and he had the opportunity to kill Zander. He could've called the PCPD and then he could've gone back to the basement.
A flashback of the scenario of Nikolas killing Zander...
Zander: You come back to finish what you started?
Nikolas: Police are on their way. Zander: Good, they can find your body.
Ric: It's too late for you to plead self-defense, but I'd be happy to offer you the deal I did before if you plead manslaughter.
Nikolas: I didn't kill Zander. Maybe you did.
Elizabeth: Ric did not kill Zander.
Nikolas: He had motive.
Elizabeth: What is this, an ambush? God, Emily, I can't believe you would take advantage of our friendship to get us out here, and now you're accusing him of murder?
Lucky: Wait, I didn't hear him denying it.
Ric: Nikolas is making groundless accusations. I'm not going to dignify them with an answer.
Emily: You had motive, Ric, and the opportunity was right there in front of you. You could've gone down to the hotel basement.
Ric: Really? Why would I?
Emily: Maybe Zander called you. It wouldn't be the first time he'd blackmailed you.
A flashback of the scenario of Ric killing Zander...
Zander: You get Emily to meet me in 15 minutes with a car at Riverview road. Send the cops in the opposite direction or I will turn myself in and tell the world that D.A. Lansing framed me so he could steal my kid.
Ric: Fine. I'll do whatever you say. Zander: I thought you might.
Ric: I'll hold onto this just in case.
Ric: Burn in hell, you bastard.
Emily: You have been so eager to push this case forward. Framing Nikolas is the perfect way to cover your own crime.
Ric: I'm not the killer.
Emily: Really? Well, neither is Nikolas.
Ric: Well, then let's look at who else had means, motive, and the opportunity, Emily. You were there at the hotel. Maybe you killed Zander.
Nikolas: Shifting blame to Emily to cover your own crime, Ric? That's -- that's low, even for you.
Ric: I read the police report on the theft of the treasure. Emily left the Versailles room before the end of the auction -- didn't you?
Lucky: Wait, Emily didn't kill Zander.
Ric: Well, Zander was desperate. I mean, he's always called her before. Why wouldn't he now?
A flashback of the scenario of Emily killing Zander...
Zander: We're leaving, okay?
Emily: No, Zander.
Zander: We're going to go to Canada.
Emily: No, listen, you should run.
Zander: No, shh, stop talking, okay?
Emily: I won't tell anybody that I've seen you.
Zander: I'm not leaving you.
Emily: I can't.
Zander: Shut up, shut up, shut up! Shut up, I love you, okay?
Elizabeth: Just stop this, okay? We can't be doing this. This is all wrong.
Ric: Elizabeth, Elizabeth, calm down, all right?
Elizabeth: We're standing around, trading accusations, and this is crazy, you guys! We can't let Zander's death destroy our friendship. Emily, I -- I know you didn't kill Zander, and Nikolas didn't, either. You want this all over with, you want Nikolas to -- you want everyone to believe he's innocent, but accusing my husband is not the way to do it, okay?
Ric: It's all right. Sweetheart, please, that's enough. I'm taking you home. You know, if you three respect your friend, you'll leave her alone.
Nikolas: I knew it. I knew he'd hide behind Elizabeth.
Nikolas: Ric's going to be scrambling to cover his tracks right now.
Lucky: The best way Ric can avoid suspicion is to get you convicted, all right? He's out for blood.
Emily: Lucky's right. You need to be careful.
Nikolas: No, what I need is evidence against Ric.
Emily: Before he has a chance to get rid of it.
Lucky: Ric was in the hotel when Zander was in the basement, so maybe somebody from the lobby saw Ric when he was going to meet Zander.
Nikolas: Hmm.
Lucky: Or maybe somebody from the PCPD notified Ric and told him where Zander was. So you know what? I'm going to dig up as many leads, witnesses as I can, all right?
Nikolas: In the meantime, Ric could get careless and give himself away, so --
Lucky: One way or another, we're going to nail him.
Nikolas: All right, thanks for your help, man.
Lucky: Hey, like I said, there's no way I'm letting you take the fall for this.
Nikolas: All right, thanks.
Emily: Thanks. Oh, my God. Oh, God, this whole thing keeps getting worse.
Nikolas: I know.
Emily: You know, Elizabeth is one of our best friends, and we just took advantage of her to try and ambush her husband.
Nikolas: Well, Ric didn't give us much choice.
Emily: Look, I'm certain Ric's the killer. It's going to break Elizabeth's heart.
Elizabeth: I'm telling you, I'm so sorry. I mean, I should've seen it coming. I don't understand why --
Ric: Elizabeth, there's no way you could've known what your friends were planning.
Elizabeth: Yeah, but if I had asked Emily why she really wanted us to come to Wyndemere, she might have told me and --
Ric: Sweetheart, she would've denied it. She would've done anything, she would've lied. She's desperate to save Nikolas. I can't say that I wouldn't do the same thing if I were in her shoes, to place blame on anybody but the person that I loved.
Elizabeth: I hate feeling like we're on opposite sides, you know, because I honestly -- well, I know that Nikolas is innocent and so is Emily.
Ric: What about me? You believe Emily's accusations?
Elizabeth: No. No, God, no! Of course not.
Ric: I appreciate your loyalty. That means the world to me after all of the lies that I've told you in the past.
Elizabeth: Well, that's because that's exactly what they are -- they're in the past.
Ric: Look, you don't have to be afraid to ask the question, all right? Just ask me.
Elizabeth: Honey, I love you and I believe you're telling me the truth, okay?
Ric: Then ask me.
Elizabeth: Did you kill Zander?
Ric: No. But I wanted to.
Emily: You know, I wonder if Elizabeth will ever tell the baby about Zander.
Nikolas: What would she say?
Emily: Well, she could describe the good in him, you know, how he could be brave and funny, and -- and how he always wanted to go to Mexico but he never made it.
Nikolas: Hey. I'm really sorry that you lost someone you cared about.
Emily: You know, Ric was right in a way. You know, I did kill Zander. No, not physically. But little by little, Nikolas, I killed his hopes and his dreams and his belief in a love that could last forever.
Nikolas: You fell in love with me. Okay? You know that you can't blame yourself for the way Zander reacted to that.
Emily: No, but I could have tried to help him.
Nikolas: You did try. He couldn't accept it.
Emily: I know. But if I had just tried harder, Nikolas, if I had just been there, you know --
Nikolas: It's okay.
Emily: Well, now all I can do is make sure the real killer is brought to justice.
Ric: You knew I wanted Zander out of our lives. I knew he couldn't be trusted. I thought he was going to use the baby as leverage.
Elizabeth: Oh, wow, thank God it's all over now.
Ric: All I can think is how much relief I have that he can't manipulate us anymore.
Elizabeth: Strange, isn't it, all the trouble we went to to get Zander to sign away his parental rights, and turns out it's kind of all for nothing.
Ric: Yeah, well, we'll find out who really killed Zander, and then we can put it all behind us.
Elizabeth: We have so much to look forward to.
Ric: Yeah, which is why I want you to go back there and I want you to lie down and I want you to rest, okay? You got to take care of yourself, Elizabeth. All this stress is not good for the baby.
Elizabeth: Yes, Dr. Lansing.
Ric: Hey. I love you.
Elizabeth: I love you, too. All right.
Zander's voice: "Lansing -- by the time you get this, Elizabeth will have killed me. I think she should pay for that, don't you?"
