January 8, 2004 Screencaps

Nikolas: Started out as a routine investigation.

Ric: Still is.

Nikolas: You didn't have enough evidence to hold me after questioning. Now -- now I'm being charged with murder? What the hell's going on Lansing? What happened in the last few hours?

Emily: What do you -- what do you mean that you can make it all go away? How did you even know that Nikolas was arrested?

Zander: I can get the charges dropped, if that's what you want.

Emily: What gives you that kind of power?

Zander: My life has changed. I know people who can help, people who can make things happen. Say the word and Nikolas is free.

Emily: In return for what?

Ric: Got the medical examiner's report. Apparently, Cody’s skull was crushed, probably with a blunt object.

Nikolas: Has nothing to do with me.

Ric: Or he could have fallen.

Nikolas: Look, there is a long list of people who might want to kill Cody McCall. I'm not on that list.

Ric: Yes, but he was found in your home --

Nikolas: He worked for me!

Ric: Yes, under an assumed name. Now, Cody McCall was a con man. He stole money from you. You could have argued; you could have struggled. When Cody was found dead, you could have strung him up in that room and then you could have pretended to discover the body.

Nikolas: I didn't kill him, okay?

Ric: I don't believe you planned to kill him, but things happen. I mean, he could have gone after Emily. He could have attacked her.

Nikolas: I -- I told you a thousand times last night, Emily and I both believe that Cody’s accomplice, Ben, is the one --

Ric: Look --

Nikolas: Who attacked her!

Ric: We don't -- we have not seen Ben, but Cody was there right in front of you.

Ric: Look, if somebody were to come after Elizabeth, I would feel the same way. So come on, you argue, right? You struggled. Maybe -- maybe you shoved him a little bit too hard.

Nikolas: I -- I didn't fight with Cody. I didn't shove Cody and I didn't kill him!

Ric: All right. Well, if you didn't kill him, then the evidence is going to show that. But if there was some kind of an accident and if there's anything you want to tell me, now would be the time to do it.

Ric: Oh --

Lucky: We found this in the tunnel at Wyndermere.

Ric: Well, what have you got?

Lucky: Well, it could be a murder weapon. I want to send it to forensics.

Ric: I want to take a look at it.

Lucky: Not much to see.

Ric: Let me be the judge of that. Get out of here.

Nikolas: Someone's setting me up.

Zander: Come on, Emily, you're a Quartermaine. You know how this works. It’s quid pro quo. You do for me and I do for you.

Emily: Zander, I'm sorry. I need to get to the police station.

Zander: Yeah, wouldn't it be great if Nikolas could come home tonight? People owe Faith, okay? I could call in a favor, make somebody else take the fall.

Emily: Nikolas and I would never let an innocent person take the blame, Zander.

Zander: Oh -- I'm sorry. I keep forgetting how noble you two are.

Emily: You know what? Nikolas didn't do anything, Zander.

Zander: I've been on death row. You remember that? That was back when I was ruining your life. And for a while, I believed that you saved me.

Emily: So now what? What Zander? You -- you want to save Nikolas?

Zander: Someone has to.

Emily: Zander, you know he's innocent.

Zander: Is he, Emily, or is that just what you want to believe?

Emily: You'd love it if Nikolas was guilty, wouldn't you?

Zander: Come on Emily, he's a Cassadine. That's what these people do; Helena, Stavros. Alexis even killed Luis Alcazar and she's the best of the bunch. Stefan tried to kill you. Do you really believe that Nikolas is that different from these people?

Emily: Get out, Zander!

Zander: Hey, I'm not -- I'm not passing judgment, okay? I am just saying that every family has its downside. My father drove my brother to kill himself. The Quartermaines -- they use people up and they throw them away. The Cassadines -- they do the same thing, literally, except for they are very creative about it -- this freezing and the poisoning and the stabbing and never stand too close to the edge of anything if a Cassadine is near you. But then again, you know about it.

Emily: Get out!

Zander: You ever figured out the body count, give or take Cody McCall?

Emily: All right, I told you, get out!

Zander: My offer still stands. Nikolas needs a favor. Let me know.

Nikolas: Why is Ric Lansing so sure that I killed Cody McCall?

Lucky: I thought you were cleared as a suspect.

Nikolas: Yeah, so did I, but something happened after I went home earlier.

Lucky: Okay, we got back the medical examiner's report.

Nikolas: Yeah, which has nothing to do with me.

Lucky: If there's no evidence, Alexis will have you out of here in an hour.

Nikolas: How could there be any evidence at all?

Lucky: Nikolas, I'm speaking to you as my brother, not as a cop. You understand me?

Nikolas: You suspect me too?

Lucky: You know I'm going to do everything I can to help you, so you better be honest with me. Do you have anything to do with Cody’s death?

Alexis: Please don't say another word.

Alexis: Whatever you say to Lucky can and will be used against you, just like Miranda says.

Lucky: I'd never do anything to hurt my brother.

Alexis: Especially if he keeps talking.

Nikolas: Your question -- the answer is no.

Lucky: I got it.

Alexis: Whatever you two just said to each other is admissible, by the way, even if you spoke in code. Can I speak to my client, please?

Lucky: No problem.

Nikolas: How soon can you get me out of here?

Alexis: I don't know.

Nikolas: You can't make them drop the charges?

Alexis: I don't know. You are in serious trouble.

Emily: Ric, where's Nikolas?

Ric: He's in a meeting with his attorney. Alexis has asked that they're not disturbed.

Emily: I'll wait.

Ric: Look, why don't you take a seat? I'll get you some coffee, some water.

Tracy: Emily, thank heaven you're here. What a horrible ordeal.

Emily: God, who told you about this?

Tracy: It's all over the news. Have you seen Nikolas?

Emily: What do you want?

Tracy: Don't worry about a thing. I'll take it from here.

Emily: Answer my question.

Tracy: Delivering bad news is one of my specialties. I will gladly tell Nikolas the engagement is off.

Alexis: Everything that I've looked over so far is circumstantial, but it could be incriminating.

Nikolas: Meaning what?

Alexis: Meaning that the police can give you motive for murder, for murdering McCall. He misled you. He could've been the one that stole the treasure from the Courage. He could've been the one that attacked Emily.

Nikolas: It could just as easily have been Ben the fence. Ben, Ben -- I've already told the police all about this.

Alexis: Who's Ben?

Nikolas: Ben -- Ben, I don't -- I don't know. We don't know his last name, but we know he worked for Cody.

Alexis: According to who?

Nikolas: According to Cody. I mean, come on. It makes sense. Cody and Ben teamed up to steal the treasure, Emily was about to figure it out, so Ben attacked her and left her for dead.

Alexis: Do you know what Ben looks like?

Nikolas: No.

Alexis: Does --

Nikolas: No, I've never seen him.

Alexis: Does Emily? Did she report it --?

Nikolas: No, she was hit from behind.

Alexis: So nobody's seen Ben?

Nikolas: No.

Alexis: So how do we know that Ben exists?

Nikolas: Cody --

Alexis: Cody?

Nikolas: Cody told us about him, yes.

Alexis: Cody, the lying con artist who scammed you and Emily?

Nikolas: I didn't kill him.

Alexis: Oh, Nikolas, I hope the forensics God is smiling down upon you.

Emily: I don't bail on people I love, Tracy. Unlike you, I don't walk away when they need me the most.

Tracy: Oh. So you're prepared to walk your prince down death row?

Emily: No, that won't be happening. Nikolas will be out of here by morning.

Tracy: Of course he will. But perhaps we ought to start planning a jailhouse wedding just in case. We'll call it the Marriage of the Passionate Prison Prince. Does that have too much alliteration?

Emily: What are you really doing here?

Tracy: I think Alan would be delighted to walk you down the cell block aisle. The prisoners can bang their cups against the bars -- that'll be a nice effect. Ooh and we can have the ushers wear those smart little orange jump suits.

Emily: Nikolas didn't do anything.

Tracy: You know, you and my mother are the heart and soul of the Quartermaine family and by that I mean you live in denial.

Emily: Tracy, he's innocent.

Tracy: I rest my case. But denial is a very useful thing. Otherwise, how could you agree to marry a Cassadine? They are lunatics, as my father says, and now they're paupers as well.

Emily: Of course you want the money. That's why you're here.

Tracy: Well, I don't particularly want to split the Courage fortune with a psychotic killer, but, you know, maybe that's just me.

Emily: Who held grandfather's heart medicine until he almost died, Tracy? Who ran down Ned’s ex-wife in a parking garage and abandoned Dillon at our doorstep, and now you're here bothering me? You barely know me, Tracy, and you don't know Nikolas at all!

Tracy: You seem a little tense.

Ric: No, no. I think that's enough, okay?

Emily: Okay, I can take care of myself, Ric.

Tracy: Of course you can. I'm just here to help.

Ric: I think you should be leaving now.

Tracy: Well, fine, if you insist. I don't know what Alan and Monica were thinking when they brought you into the fold. [Emily sighs]

Ric: Sorry. I should've sent her away a lot earlier. Look, I know this is very difficult for you, but I'm sure that the evidence is going to exonerate Nikolas. It would be helpful if we could clear everything up now. Look, Nikolas needs an alibi. Do you know exactly what time you were with him the night that Cody McCall was murdered?

Emily: I already told the police what happened that night.

Ric: Maybe you left something out. What about you and Mr. McCall? Did he attack you? Was Nikolas upset? Did they fight?

Emily: Do you honestly believe that I'll answer those questions, Ric?

Ric: Emily, I'm trying to help.

Emily: Elizabeth loves you -- God knows why -- and she believes that you love her too, never mind that you lied to her or that you tried to kidnap Carly. Elizabeth forgives you. I don't and why should I? You know what? And about your job, Ric -- you shouldn't be prosecuting anybody. You should be the person in jail.

Elizabeth: Uh -- excuse me. Emily, what are you doing?

Emily: Nikolas has just been arrested for murder, he's innocent, and Ric here isn't doing anything to prove it. All right, I'm done.

Elizabeth: Oh, my God. I can't believe she said those things to you.

Ric: Her nerves are shot. I can't say that I blame her.

Nikolas: Oh. You're shaking.

Emily: Yeah, things keep getting worse.

Ric: Look, I know that Nikolas is one of your oldest friends.

Elizabeth: Please, it has to be some mistake. Nikolas would never kill anybody.

Ric: Yeah, I hope you're right.

Elizabeth: And I don't blame you for doing your investigation. I know this is just part of your job.

Ric: Thanks for believing me.

Elizabeth: Now, when can you come home?

Ric: I have some paperwork I got to take care of. You go. Go on ahead.

Elizabeth: Are you sure?

Ric: Yes. You both need some rest, okay?

Elizabeth: You sure you're okay?

Ric: Yeah, thanks to you.

Lucky: Lansing? We got the forensics report.

Nikolas: Forensics will show I had nothing to do with this. We'll be home later tonight, okay?

Emily: Okay, and on our way to Azure Key by morning, huh?

Nikolas: Yeah, yeah. It'll be okay.

Lucky: Your fingerprints are on the murder weapon.

Emily: But that's impossible, Lucky!

Nikolas: I -- I don't even know what the murder weapon is, Lucky!

Lucky: We found a candlestick in the tunnels.

Nikolas: So?

Lucky: Your prints are all over it.

Nikolas: Wait -- well, that -- what, that can't be. What --

Lucky: I can't argue with forensics.

Emily: Wait --

Lucky: I'm sorry. I'm going to have to take you down to lockup.

Emily: Wait, you can't do this to your own brother, Lucky. What are you talking about?

Nikolas: It's all right --

Emily: This is crazy!

Nikolas: It's all right, it's all right.

Emily: Nikolas is --

Nikolas: I'm being framed, okay? I'm being framed. We'll get through this, all right? All right, I love you. Come on, let's go.

Zander: So, how's it going?

Ric: Cassadine's prints are all over the murder weapon. He'll be charged with Cody McCall’s murder.

Zander: Okay.

Ric: All right, I've done my part. Now you do yours. Sign over the papers.

Zander: No problem, as soon as Nikolas is convicted.
