August 31, 2004 Screencaps

Emily:: I'm so furious I could scream. Nikolas, you shouldn't be here, and the fact that you are is a travesty.

Nikolas: It's all right. Just calm down, okay?

Emily:: No, I won't calm down! This is flat-out wrong, and I'm not going to sit by quietly while law enforcement steamrolls all over you. Listen, I demand that you release Nikolas immediately.

Ric: I'm sure that that works with the Quartermaine staff, Emily:, but it's not going to get you very far here. I need to know the details concerning Mary Bishop's shooting.

Emily:: You want details? I'll give you the only one that matters. Mary Bishop murdered two people. How dare you arrest Nikolas for defending himself against her.

Emily:: I don't think you should say anything, at least not until we can get Alexis here.

Ric: I've already called her. She should be here any minute.

Nikolas: Why would you call my attorney for me?

Ric: Look, I have no desire to violate your legal rights, Nikolas. Contrary to popular belief, that is not what I’m about. But I do need to get to the bottom of Mary Bishop's shooting. I've gotten Mac’s statement. I would like to get your version of the events, and I am prepared to wait for Alexis for you to do that. Here she is.

Alexis: Are you all right?

Nikolas: Fine.

Emily:: He's not fine, Alexis. He's being railroaded for a crime he didn't commit. What's the matter, Ric -- you getting bored hauling Sonny and Jason in every five minutes, and now you've moved on to Nikolas?

Ric: Emily is understandably upset.

Emily:: Oh, don't patronize me.

Alexis: From what I understand, this is a clear-cut case of self-defense. Mary Bishop snapped. She killed already two people, and she was a threat to both of them.

Ric: Well, then perhaps you want to explain to me why Nikolas grabbed Mac’s gun and fired upon her as she was walking away.

Nikolas: I had no problem telling Lansing what happened.

Alexis: Are you sure? You don't have to.

Nikolas: I know my rights. I've certainly had them read to me enough lately.

Ric: Any objections to being recorded?

Alexis: No objection.

Ric: This is a statement provided by Nikolas Cassadine concerning the events that lead up to Mary Bishop's shooting. Present are Mr. Cassadine's counsel, Alexis Davis, as well as

Emily: Quartermaine, who witnessed the events. Conducting the interview is District Attorney Lansing. The date is August 31, 2004. Anytime you're ready.

Nikolas: Ahem. I assume that you know my grandmother had me committed to Shadybrookay.

Ric: Yes, I’m aware that you were there. I'm also aware that you'd escaped. I'm not sure how Emily fits into all of that, though.

Emily:: I was there to help Nikolas.

Nikolas: After we broke out, we went to the Quartermaine estate and eventually made our way up to Emily’s bedroom, where Sage Alcazar walked in on us.

Ric: Where is Emily’s bedroom located?

Nikolas: Second floor.

Ric: I see. What was Sage Alcazar doing wandering around the second floor of the Quartermaine mansion?

Nikolas: We didn't ask. No one wanted to be seen, so we agreed to pretend that it never happened.

Emily:: Nikolas and I went to the kitchen and we grabbed some food and wine, and we came back to my room, and that's when Faith kind of stumbled in.

Faith: Now, the thing is I can't have anyone know that I’m here, especially your big brother Jason, so I'm afraid to say that I will be the only one leaving this room alive.

Nikolas: Emily distracted Faith just enough to where I could grab her.

Faith grunts.

Nikolas: We struggled, and Faith's gun went off.

Gunshot.

Nikolas: Faith took off, and we chased her down in the basement and lost her. I decided to take a look in the freezer, and it was obvious that someone -- assuming Faith -- had been hiding inside.

Emily:: So, I went to warn my family that Faith was in the house.

Nikolas: I stayed behind because I didn't want her family to know that I was there.

Emily:: We assumed that it was Faith who had knocked Nikolas out.

Nikolas: I went back to the boathouse and --

Emily:: And then I found him there, and that's when we found the butcher knife which was embedded in the boathouse deck, right?

Nikolas: Right, right. I heard a noise outside, so we went out to investigate, and there was a knife. I just started to feel weird, like everything was getting out of control. I didn't want

Emily: in danger, so I decided to turn myself in. We went back to the house, and that's when we heard that Sage Alcazar had been killed.

Emily:: And we assumed that Faith must have done it.

Nikolas: Until, in comes Faith with stab wounds on her back. And that's when I realized that someone else was in the house and I thought that it might be my grandmother, Helena Cassadine. So

Emily: and I went to lookay for her.

Emily:: And that's when Dillon kind of ran in and he said that my mother and father had the killer trapped in the boathouse.

Nikolas: Right. I convinced Emily to stay inside the house, and I went with Dillon.

Emily:: And a few minutes later, someone wearing a mask attacked me with a knife. I literally fought for my life, and at one point, I was able to grab hold of the mask, and I pulled it off. It was Mary. At least, it looked like her.

Ric: What do you mean?

Emily:: Mary was gone. This -- this thing in front of me was almost feral, insisting that Nikolas was Connor, and she admitted to killing Sage, thinking that it was me.

Ric: okay, what about Trent?

Emily:: Probably in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Ric: okay, um -- how did you get away from Mary?

Emily:: She kept coming at me, and at one point I was able to knock her off balance and I grabbed hold of the knife, but even that didn't stop her.

Nikolas: Once I saw that it was Faith in the boathouse, I realized that Emily was alone. By the time I got up to her room, Mary was already gone.

Ric: Mac figured that she'd go to the boathouse and try to escape by the lake, and he was right.

Nikolas: Yeah. We caught up to her. Mary had a knife. She kept -- she kept calling me Connor. It's her dead husband's -- she kept saying that she was coming to rescue me from Emily. She physically threatened Emily and then she walked away, stopped, turned around, and said that she was -- she was coming for me. I yelled at Mac to shoot her, and he didn’t so I grabbed his gun and I shot her myself, this lunatic who tried to kill the woman I love. She said she was never going to stop coming, Ric. So I shot at her to protect Emily. And you know what? I'd do it again.

Lucky: I was afraid you were going to be here.

Emily:: Yeah, I was just at the police station where they're holding Nikolas for the horrible crime of defending me from a knife-wielding maniac!

Lucky: What, so you decided to confront Mary? That's not a good idea. She's not exactly up for a fight.

Emily:: Yeah, I was hoping she'd died.

Lucky: Be careful what you wish for. The doctors don't think she's going to make it. If she doesn't, that means Nikolas could be lookaying at a murder charge.

Alexis: Lucky for you, Helena’s deplorable plot to have you declared insane might work to your benefit.

Nikolas: How?

Alexis: If Mary dies and you're charged with murder, I can plead diminished capacity.

Nikolas: You're not doing that. I'm not the crazy one here, Mary is.

Alexis: It's a legal strategy, Nikolas.

Nikolas: She threatened to kill

Emily:. She had a knife. She already killed two people. Now, I was in the right to shoot her. The only thing I'll allow you to plead is what happened -- self-defense.

Lorenzo: I understand that Mary Bishop murdered my niece.

Ric: Yes, it's apparent that Mary Bishop suffered a complete psychotic break.

Lorenzo: You have her in custody?

Ric: She will be if she recovers. Right now, she's in critical condition at General Hospital. Nikolas Cassadine shot her after an alleged attempt on Emily’s life.

Lorenzo: Well, that makes sense. And I assume when Mary pulls through, that you'll be charging her with first-degree murder?

Ric: Well, I don't know what charges I'm going to be able to file until I know more about what happened.

Lorenzo: Sage is dead! What more do you need to know?

Ric: Well, whether premeditation is a factor, Mr. Alcazar, which I doubt. I don't think that Mary had the intent of killing your niece when she entered that freezer.

Lorenzo: Freezer?

Ric: Yeah. Um -- Sage was found in an unused walk-in in the basement. That's where Mary found her. I'm sorry.

Lorenzo: My niece was locked in a freezer at the mercy of a madwoman, and you are standing there navel-gazing about what charges to file?

Nikolas: I understand how he feels.

Alexis: I wouldn't waste your sympathy because Alcazar won't return the favor.

Nikolas: What does that mean?

Alexis: The way he thinks, you're the motive for everything Mary did. He's likely to blame you for Sage's death.

Emily:: How can anyone think that what Nikolas did was wrong? I mean, Mary had already murdered two people, Lucky -- two kids! I mean, Sage died because Mary mistook her for me, and it easily could've been me, Lucky. There were plenty of times where I was alone and unprotected in that house, and if Mary had found me, I wouldn't be standing here right now! I mean, she'd already threatened -- no, promised -- to kill me, and Nikolas shot her in self-defense.

Lucky: No, no -- oh, no, he didn’t. That was in defense of you.

Emily:: What are you saying? That doesn't count?

Lucky: No, that is for the court to decide, all right? You need to leave and you need to stay away from Mary. Nothing good is going to come from you getting in her face, so just promise me, all right, you're just going to go home.

Emily:: Sure, don't -- don't worry about it. Don't --

Alexis: Alcazar already blames the Cassadines because I killed his brother. You're the reason that his niece is dead. Trust me -- he's not your friend.

Lorenzo: I need to speak to Nikolas -- alone.

Emily:: I've been searching my heart trying to find some sympathy for you, a little compassion. And I imagine that you weren't always like this. It must have been Connor’s loss that took your sanity. I try to tell myself that you aren't responsible for your actions and find excuses for poor, pathetic Mary. And then I realize that that's the exact mistake I have made all along -- giving you the benefit of the doubt, looking for the deeper motive. My pity for you gave you the time you needed to keep Nikolas isolated and dependent on you, time for you to try to have his baby, time enough for you to feel entitled to him. You are no one to feel sorry for, Mary Bishop. You are a loathsome, cunning, dangerous woman, and I hate you with every fiber of my being. More than anything, I wish that bullet had found its mark. You don't deserve to live.

Nikolas: Mary's intention was to get rid of

Emily: so she could have a clear path to me or, more accurately, to Connor. That's what she called me. That's -- that's who she convinced herself I was.

Lorenzo: Then why did Mary kill Sage?

Nikolas: Mistaken identity. She thought Sage was Emily.

Lorenzo: So my niece died in Emily’s place?

Emily:: You have caused nothing but misery for Nikolas and me. And now, you've taken the lives of two innocent people because of your twisted obsession. The world would be a better place without you in it, Mary, so why don't you just do us all a favor and die! Just die!
