Nikolas: You nervous?
Lydia: No.
Nikolas: You're fidgeting.
Lydia: Am I? My grandmother would be appalled.
Nikolas: Relax, it's just a checkup.
Lydia: Our entire marriage is riding on the results of these tests. What if I can't have children?
Nikolas: Do you have any reason to believe that's the case?
Lydia: No. But disappointments aren't exactly new to me. And my grandfather's will is very specific. If we don't have an heir, we don't get the inheritance. Maybe that's what you're hoping for. If I can't have a baby, then you're off the hook with me.
Nikolas: You'd be free of me, as well.
Lydia: I don't know what I want anymore. Half the time, I can't stand you, including your family -- your demented uncle, your arrogant, opinionated half brother. And then suddenly, you let down your defenses for five minutes --
Nikolas: I'm sorry. Emily, wow.
Emily: Hi.
Nikolas: You look -- you look --
Lydia: Lovely.
Nikolas: Great.
Lydia: But what are you doing out of bed?
Emily: Actually, I'm --
Bobbie: Lydia, the doctor will see you now.
Lydia: You'll wait here?
Nikolas: Yeah, right here.
Emily: Is everything okay?
Nikolas: Yeah, yeah, it's -- it's just a checkup. So are you feeling better?
Emily: Yeah. I'm going home, Nikolas.
Nikolas: Yeah? Oh, I knew you could do it.
Emily: Hmm.
Zander: Hey, what's up? Thanks for meeting me.
Ned: Sure. Well, now that we're officially cousins, I can't very well turn you down, can I?
Zander: Well, I was hoping you'd feel that way.
Ned: So is this about coming back to E.L.Q.?
Zander: No, it's -- it's about money. I need a loan -- pretty fast.
Nikolas: Oh, I'm so happy for you, Em.
Emily: Yeah. I mean, you know, it's a turn for the better, but I still have to -- I still have to find a new treatment for the cancer.
Nikolas: Yeah, you will.
Emily: Yeah.
Nikolas: You will.
Emily: I know. And I'm going to live, Nikolas. I have to.
Nikolas: Could you sit with me for a minute? I told Lydia I'd wait for her.
Emily: Yeah.
Nikolas: Okay.
Emily: Which -- which doctor is she seeing? I feel like I know them all by now.
Nikolas: Well, Dr. Meadows suggested that, you know, that she get checked out before -- before we, you know --
Emily: Before she tries to get pregnant.
Nikolas: Yeah.
Emily: You're going to be a wonderful father.
Nikolas: I don't know. I don't exactly come from a stable home environment.
Emily: Hey, well, you know what? That's what makes you so amazing. You're this -- you're this wonderful all on your own. Nobody had to teach you how to follow your heart.
Nikolas: Are you sure that you're not being biased?
Emily: Completely. And I don't apologize for it. You deserve to be happy, to have all of your dreams come true.
Nikolas: You're getting well, Em. Just like I always said, you're going to live a long, happy life. That's all I ever wanted. It means everything to me.
Emily: Nobody gets everything, Nikolas.
Lydia: Emily, have you seen my husband?
Emily: He's visiting our friend Elizabeth.
Lydia: She's in the hospital, too?
Emily: Nikolas will be back when he's sure Elizabeth is okay.
Lydia: Good. I can't wait to tell him the good news. Dr. Meadows says that I am a prime candidate for motherhood.
Emily: That's great, Lydia.
Lydia: Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't even thinking. Can you even have children after the chemo?
Emily: What did you just say?
Lydia: You could always adopt -- if Zander's okay with that. I suppose we all learn to live with what we can't have.
Emily: Like love?
Lydia: I don't know what you mean.
Emily: Oh, it's something you certainly don't have.
Lydia: I have Nikolas.
Emily: Only because I gave him up, because I would do anything to protect him, Lydia.
Lydia: You made your choice. It's too late to change your mind now.
Emily: You know, if Nikolas didn't need your family's money to keep him safe, then I --
Lydia: You'd what? Give up Zander and take Nikolas back? I wonder how your husband would feel about that?
Zander: Why don't you ask me?
Lydia: Emily and I were just discussing honeymoons.
Zander: Really?
Emily: Yeah, I was just explaining that I'm not -- not up to traveling yet.
Lydia: Well, when you are, I would suggest someplace far away, like Helsinki.
Emily: That's funny, Lydia.
Zander: Did Emily tell you about Venice? How her cousins brought it to us?
Lydia: Charming.
Zander: Emily and I will travel the world together when she's 100%.
Lydia: Emily, you are so lucky to have such a dedicated, romantic man by your side. Is it true that Zander loves you so much, he actually brought you back to life?
Emily: Yeah. Zander never gave up on me.
Lydia: Positively inspiring.
Zander: Yeah, I should really get Emily home.
Lydia: Of course.
Zander: Right.
Lydia: All this talk of romance is making me long for my own husband. Have a great life, Emily.
Emily: Okay.
Lydia: You deserve it.
Zander:Wow. You don't like that girl, do you?
Emily: You know, I barely know her, and that's how I'd like to keep it. Hey, what difference does it make? I'm getting out of this place. Hey.
Zander: Yeah. I got a surprise for you.
Emily: Yeah? What is it?
Zander: Just something to show you how much I love you.
Emily: I'll get the light.
Zander: So what do you think?
Emily: I think you should put me down before you break your neck.
Zander: I mean, about this place.
Emily: I love this place. What I don't get is why we're here.
Zander: I rented it. Your family's house is huge, but I hated the idea of us starting our life together there.
Emily: Okay. You mean, this is ours?
Zander: Yours and mine. We're home.
Emily: I can't believe it. It's our first home.
Zander: I love you. I just want everything for us to be right from now on.
Emily: It is. Everything's perfect.
Lydia: Thanks for coming to the hospital with me today.
Nikolas: There's no need to thank me.
Lydia: Yes, there is. You didn't even want this marriage, Nikolas, and you probably don't want to have a child with me. Maybe some day you will. Until then, I'm here as a friend if you'll let me be. Maybe someday as more.
