Lydia grabs wine off the table and tries to hand it to Nikolas as he comes in. Nikolas stalls her and tells her he has a wedding to attend.
Lydia: Hi. I'm always so thirsty after I ride. Aren't you?
Nikolas: No, thanks. I'm sure my uncle and you will enjoy yourselves. Lydia: No, no, forget Stefan. This is our dinner. We can spend it catching up.
Nikolas: Look, I'm late for a wedding.
As Nikolas says this, we hear Emily’s voice off camera and then she comes into the drawing room all exciting. Gesturing with his folder, Nikolas introduces them. Lydia looks disappointed while Emily has a huge smile on her face.
Emily: Nikolas, are you ready? Hi.
Nikolas: Hi. Emily, I’d like you to meet Lydia Karenin. Lydia, this is Emily Quartermaine, my date for the evening.
Nikolas comes back into the drawing room, now dressed in his suit, He’s straightening his tie as Lydia quizzes them.
Lydia: So, who's getting married?
Emily: Oh, my brother is.
Lydia: Maybe I could tag along?
Emily: It's a very small wedding. It's family only.
Lydia: Oh. And that includes Nikolas?
Nikolas: We'd better get going.
Nikolas grabs Emily’s hand and pulls her towards the door, Lydia stops them with a question and then Nikolas leads Emily out.
Lydia: Well, have a wonderful time.
Emily: It's nice to meet you.
Lydia: Yeah. You know, we should get together right after the wedding and discuss all the details, especially the flowers. I love wedding bouquets. Mine is going to have to be stunning.
Emily: Oh, you're getting married?
Lydia: Yeah, absolutely. Just have to set the date.
Nikolas: Good night, Lydia.
Lydia: Good night.
As they leave, Stefan comes down the stairs and confronts Lydia.
Stefan: You set this up for you and Nikolas?
Lydia: No, for me and your housekeeper.
Stefan: Did it occur to you that Nikolas might have plans for the evening? That you're embarrassing yourself and wasting everyone's time?
Lydia: You underestimate me, Stefan. I learned all sorts of fascinating information.
Nikolas and Jason are shaking hands in the vestibule.
Nikolas: Congratulations.
Jason: Thanks.
Emily: You look so handsome, Jason.
Emily gives Jason a great big hug and she has a huge smile on her face.
Jason: I'm so glad you're here.
Sonny: Emily, hi.
Emily: Hi.
Sonny: I'm glad you're doing well.
Emily: Thank you.
Sonny: Nikolas.
Nikolas: Sonny.
Emily: I'm so happy everything turned out so well, and you know the family's going to show up.
Jason: Yeah, that's okay.
Emily: I'll drag them out if they get too obnoxious or anything.
Jason: No, don't worry about the Quartermaines. Just enjoy yourself.
Emily: Okay.
Nikolas: That's the plan.
Nikolas wraps his arm around Emily and leads her away to talk to Father Coates. Insert scene with Janine, Sonny and Mike here. Then, we see Edward, Monica and Alan come in and approach Jason. Emily walks over with Nikolas and begins a conversation.
Emily: Hello, Grandfather.
Edward: You look pale. Did you skip breakfast?
Emily: Oh, you caught me again.
Edward: Well, congratulations, Jason. For once in your heathen life, you've shown the good discretion to include your whole family. Of course, you gangsters really don't belong in church.
Emily: Okay, one more insult, and you are so out of here.
Nikolas and Emily flank Edward as they lead him away.
Edward: What, for stating the facts? Jason's a heathen, pure and simple. That's all.
Emily: I'll give Grandmother a full report.
Edward: Oh, please. Come on.
Everyone is waiting for the ceremony to begin, the camera pans between pairings and trios wondering if the ceremony is going to begin.
Emily: Do you think something's wrong?
Nikolas: It is a bit strange.
