Sometimes things in life don’t make sense. Sometimes things happen that we never expect. Sometimes people change our lives, and sometimes love… is a fairytale. Such is the case for Nikolas and Emily. What is a fairytale, really? Is it a fantasy or just a story with a happy ending? No, it is definitely much more than that. Nikolas and Emily are proof of it. But what makes them a fairytale? Let’s open their book and take a look…

It started long ago, giving Nikolas and Emily a solid foundation; a friendship that encompassed deep caring and love. One built on honesty and trust. When Emily found out she had cancer, she went to Nikolas: a likely choice, many said. Emily entered the study at Wyndemere, and upon her entrance, Nikolas glanced up from his papers. From that moment, the magic began. “Not if you pretend to be in love with me.” Sure, it may have been pretend at first, but we all know, that NikE’s feelings run much deeper than friendship. A true friend would wait while Emily had chemo, listen to her fears and dry her tears. A true friend would sympathize. Nikolas empathized. How was able to do that? Because his heart was connected to hers, that’s how. And when Emily was lying on, what she thought was her deathbed, she and Nikolas shared the same dream “I kissed you and you were back with me. Don't you see? That's how connected we are, Emily. Don't you see that?” We all see it.

Nikolas and Emily’s discovery of their love came at an inopportune time, but that obstacle inadvertently fueled their passion for one another. Though NikE’s love is passionate, it isn’t only based on passion. They say passion dies. What Nikolas and Emily have will not die. It will not fade away and evaporate into the Port Charles air. No, it will last forever because true love does. Time and time again, Nikolas has shown how unconditional, how unselfish his love is for Emily, and when given the opportunity, Emily has shown the same thing. They embody what love is all about, and that’s part of what makes them so enjoyable to watch. They’re beautiful and their story is beautiful.

Together, Nikolas and Emily have grown as people. They’ve taught one another lessons, changed each other. Nikolas knows that he’s not alone anymore and Emily is a stronger person. They bring out the best in each other, building the other up. And they smile. They smile because they’re happy. The prince has his princess. Now, it’s not time to say “The End”, and it’s not time to close the book because the story isn’t over. It’s only begun. But no matter what happens, Nikolas Cassadine and Emily Quartermaine are a fairytale…a modern fairytale…and what’s more, they’re a fairytale to remember.
