Emily and Nikolas finally open their hearts!

It was a moment that would change lives possibly forever. “I may be marrying you, but Emily has my heart,” shouted Nikolas at his soon-to-be bride, Lydia, making it clear that their marriage – like their sexual romp the night before – would be one of convenience. Little did he know that a speechless Emily was standing only a few feet away, listening to his shocking words.

Secrets & Lies
Emily dashed into the night, but Lydia prevented Nikolas from giving chase by asking what he would do upon catching the girl his life was no locked on a course which could not be altered yet he felt the need to somehow explain his words.

In the comforting refuge of her bedroom at the mansion, Emily couldn’t forget the declaration she’d heard. And when Nikolas soon appeared on her threshold, Emily braced herself while asking what, exactly, he’d meant. Stumbling over his words Nikolas was unable to make eye contact as he quickly spun a lie. “I wanted her away from me,” he clamed. “It could’ve been anyone’s name, you know? Just fill in the blank. It just happened to be yours.” But Em didn’t believe him for a moment.

Trying another tack, the young prince pointed out that Emily loved Zander, and that she needed to protect that relationship. “No, Nikolas,” she rebutted. “That’s why we’re in this situation –because I was trying to protect Zander. Now I just want the truth.”

Overwhelmed with an emotion that he could hide for not a moment longer, Nikolas looked at Emily. “I think you already know.”

Separate Lives
Stunned, Emily blamed herself, saying she should never have asked him to feign loving her. Somehow, that simple deception had grown into that nearly undeniable situation they now faced. But Nikolas seemed glad that the truth was, if not out in the open, at least close to being broached. “I never meant for you to hear what I said to Lydia… but you did. I never meant for you to fell the way I do…. It’s up to you.”

Hidden Hearts
The words at last spoken, Emily and Nikolas faced their true meaning and contemplated the consequences. Each had made promises and commitments to others, and knew they couldn’t simply run into one another’s arms. “We can’t just run roughshod over other people’s feelings because we have a lousy sense of timing,” Emily said sadly.

She was torn between two men, but knew there was only one direction in which she could realistically turn. Her future had to be with Zander, just as Nikolas had to make a life with Lydia. As a tear ran down his cheek, Nikolas said softly, “We may not be able to act on our feelings, but that doesn’t make them any less real. I love you. And that will never change.”
