2006 ended with Spencer Cassadine being kidnapped by his nanny, Colleen. The P.C.P.D. were ineffective in their searches for Spencer so that led Nikolas and Emily on a wild goose chase, first to Denver where Colleen was arrested but already after Spencer had been whisked away by Helena. Through good detective work, Nikolas and Emily travelled to Russia where they rescued Spencer from her evil clutches.
Back in Port Charles, everyone was overjoyed to see Spencer. After a party at Wyndemere, Nikolas and Emily attended a Charity event at The Metro Court hotel only to be held hostage in the lobby with many other attendees. The villian, James Craig, proceeded to shoot Robin, force Emily to operate on her using various household items and eventually cause the heart attack of Emily's father, Alan. It came down to one moment, when the Metro Court exploded and everybody was rushed to safety!
As normalcy descended back on Port Charles, Liz and Lucky reunited and Nikolas and Emily were back into their routine of things, Nikolas was accosted by Mr. Craig at Wyndemere. Craig injected Nikolas with a toxic poison that would slowly suffocate him within 24 hours. In order for Nikolas to live, he needed a counteragent injected every 24 hours - the counteragent that only Craig had. Nikolas agreed to work with Craig in exchange for the dosages but broke up with Emily so that she would not be involved.
After the break-up, Robin Scorpio visited Nikolas only to be grabbed by Craig. Caught, Robin and Nikolas were forced to pretend to be lovers, with Robin breaking off her relationship with Patrick. In April, Patrick learned that everything was a lie and worked with Robin to find a cure for Nikolas' poison. After seeing a passionate kiss between Robin and Patrick, Emily's curiousity got the better of her and she confronted Nikolas. The truth came out and the four worked together to thwart Craig.
Throughout this all, Nikolas was embroiled in a guardianship scandal between Scott Baldwin, Luke Spencer and himself over Laura's immediate care at Shadybrook while Emily greived over Alan's death. Craig forced Emily into a situation which could land her in jail if Craig dies at the same time as Robin and Patrick found the antidote for Nikolas' poison.
They couldn't get out from under Craig's thumb. Nikolas' anger began to overtake him and his thoughts of revenge continue to drive him. Craig then revealed to all of Port Charles that he was, in fact, Jerry Jacks, post plastic surgery BUT that he wasn't James Craig. With numerous Metro Court hostages backing him, Jerry was able to get away from any prosecution of the Metro Court incident. For now...
As summer hits it's high points, Nikolas continues to search for ways to nail Jerry to a wall and it appears that Emily has taken a vacation. Who knows what the rest of summer will bring...
